Snowflake - Adopted

Name: Snowflake
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Australian Shepherd
Age: 8 months - 1 year
Location: Lillian, Texas

Vet Info:  Snowflake was seen on 2/23/12.  She had a rabies vaccine and heartworm test was negative.  She was spayed on 2/28 and microchipped.  She is up to date on all shots and they are good for one year (through 2/23/13).  Her eye condition is congenital and she will be seeing an opthalmologist on 2/29 for an evaluation.

Owner Info:  She and her husband saw a small dog sitting outside their gate and who was being pursued by some larger dogs that looked like they would harm her. My husband immediately brought her inside our fenced-in area and she took off for our side field. The little Sheltie/Shepherd was running in big circles out in the field. We were able to get her to eventually come to us. It appeared she was blind. Both of her eyes are different sizes and shapes and she is bumping into things. Her hearing seems to be excellent. She is a darling little girl. Snowflake is an Australian Shepherd. She is a lovely little dog with a very sweet temperament. She is good with men, women, children, and other dogs.  Overall her heath is good and her coat is in good condition! She does excellent in her crate without having accidents and is very quiet. When she realizes someone is near she cocks her little head to the side and wiggles her little back end. She is a precious sweetheart full of love who will make someone a wonderful companion. She weighs 27 pounds and the Vet guessed her age to be between 8 months to one year old.  She is not yet leash trained.

Here is a video of Snowflake the day she arrived.

Molly - Adopted

Name: Molly
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Boxer Mix
Age: 1 year
Location: Signal Mountain, TN

Vet/Medical Info: Molly is spayed. On 3/5/2012 Molly had a one year rabies vaccine and DHPP.  We have been told Molly was taken to the vet 2/23 and she is HW negative, she had a fecal and is being treated for whip worms.

Owner Info: Molly is a blind boxer mix that was recently rescued on 2/22 from a kill shelter, she is about 25 lbs, 1 year old and is very timid and sweet. The other dog in the house is extremely rough with her so she cannot keep Molly. Molly shows no signs of aggression. She needs to try and place her with a rescue asap. She is a fawn color and has a docked tail. At present Molly in an indoor dog who is crated, she is housebroken and leash trained. She is good with adults and small children and good with other dogs. She has only had her a day, her main concern was getting her out of the conditions she was in and she did not anticipate her own dogs reaction to her. She is willing to help in anyway she can to get her into a rescue that can help find her a permanent home, transport help won't be a problem.

Poppy - In All Breed Rescue Foster Care

Name: Poppy
Sex: Male (not altered)
Breed: Chihuahua
Age: 5-8 years
Location: Glen Burnie, MD

Vet/Medical Info: No vet info available as background unknown.

Owner Info: This little guy was found in Tampa, Florida on 2/5 and his owner was unable to be located. He appeared to be covered with grime, they gave him a few baths but couldn't get the grime off, turned out they were bruises. A family member brought him to his current home on 2/17 because the vet in Florida recommended that he just be euthanized and they did not want that to happen. They need to find a home for him because they already have two furkids of their own and are unable to keep this new little guy. They have called him Poppy because his eyes pop out. Poppy is currently an indoor dog with the run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained, good with adults and good with other dogs. After just six days he knows his way around the house. They took him to the vet on 2/20. Dr. said he has "some" shadow vision in his right eye, none in his left due to "blood pooling" - possibly head trauma either from getting hit by a car or abuse. Other than his vision, the vet told them he appears in good health. They had them do a fecal test on which came back negative for worms/parasites despite being "on the run" for an unknown amount of time. This little guy is very, very sweet and a true lap dog. Whatever he has gone through over the last unknown amount of time has not affected his ability to love and cuddle. As much as they would like to make him a part of their family, they are just not able to do so at this time and are hoping someone has the time/love to give this little guy. They are still searching the internet websites to see if they can find his owner in Florida but need to research other options as well.

Nicholas - Adopted

Name: Nicholas
Sex: Male (not altered)
Breed: Australian Shepherd Mix
Age: 3-4 months
Location: Stone Mountain, GA

Vet/Medical Info: Nicholas is due 2/25/2012 for his next set of puppy vaccines.  If he does not come in, they have to start over. These vaccines include distemper booster, parvo and adenovirus and do not include lepto. They said he's also old enough for a rabies vaccine but has not had one yet. His eyes are "abnormal", the right one is worse than the left. The third eyelid covers most of his right eye. There is occasional swelling in the right eye. He is deaf.

Owner Info: DOB November 2011. Nicholas was found on the streets, someone dumped this tiny puppy on Christmas Day. The people that took him in live in a townhouse and Nicholas doesn't have room to run and play. He is an indoor dog with the run of the house, he is not yet housebroken but they are working on it. He is also going through formal obedience training. He is an outgoing boy and is good with other dogs. They also have a Shih Tzu, he plays a little rough with the her to get her attention. She has never been friendly with other dogs. When they go to Petsmart shopping he has done well around other dogs and they think he would love to have another dog to play with. Nicholas adapts very well to new situations, he will learn the layout of the room very quickly. He is still a puppy so he still nips and needs something in his mouth to chew on and help him with the teeth that are coming through. He is fully blind in the right eye and has partial sight in the left eye. He can see good in the day light but darkness his sight is limited. He is also deaf. He has a sweet personality, just wants to play and stay near their feet. He is all white with a brown and black patch around his left eye. We have been advised that Nicholas received his rabies shot and puppy vaccinations yesterday (2/23), waiting on vet to open to verify this.

Winston - Adopted

Name: Winston
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Pug
Age: 14 years approx
Location: Tomball, TX

Vet/Medical Info: Winston is neutered - they would be happy to vaccinate him and he is heartworm negative.

Owner Info: Winston was found on the side of the road in cold weather, whining and shivering. He is currently being cared for by a lady from a clinic, her mother rescued him and brought him to her. Winston is currently an indoor dog who is crated, he isn't housebroken but is leash trained. Winston is blind and deaf. He will go out to urinate and defecate, but does not hold it if he needs to go. He is a shy and nervous dog and does not like to be touched over his hips. They suspect he has pain from arthritis. He seems to be doing much better now, he has been with them for about two weeks. Winston has cataracts in both eyes, he can see shadows but not well. He could possibly have cancer, his calcium levels are high which could be an indication of lymphoma. Winston is a sweet boy. He is an old man that someone dumped on the side of the road to die - cold, blind, deaf, hungry and alone. Since he has been at the clinic he is alert, has a great appetite and even likes to be petted some. He can be a grumpy old man at times. They are just hoping to find someone that will offer him hospice, until the time comes that he can no longer function.

Rudy - Adopted

Name: Rudy
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Jack Russell/Beagle Mix
Age: 1 year
Location: Carthage, NC

Vet/Medical Info: The only info the vet has about Rudy is that he is neutered and received a one year rabies on 10/11/11. No record of any other vaccinations being given nor a heartworm test. We have been sent medical records from Rudy's foster Mom that verify he was tested for heartworm on 1/26/2012, result negative, he was also given heartgard on this date. He received his second DPP and Bordatella vaccinations on 11/11/2011.

Ophthalmologist Info: Rudy saw an Ophthamologist on 11/28/2011 for third eyelid inflammation, which causes him visual problems, mainly he has trouble seeing down to find things on the floor or go downstairs. Rudy has microphthalmia, a congenital condition he has had since birth. This means his eyeballs are smaller than they should be. He has bilateral protrusion of third eyelids covering the entire pupil and majority of the iris because of the microphthalmia. As Rudy gets older it is possible that his eyes may get a little larger and push his third eyelids back a little more, resulting in better vision. Rudy also has immature capsular cataracts. A lens replacement surgery can be considered for Rudy's future but it would be best to wait until they can see how big Rudy will get and what changes his eyes will undergo as he grows. They would also recommend further diagnostic testing prior to surgery to make sure his retina is functioning properly, making him a good candidate for the surgery. Rudy had another Ophthalmologist appointment three months later on 2/9/2012. His cataract progression is minimal, if present at all however this will likely not be the case long term. Rudy's eyes unfortunately have not grown since his last visit and it is unlikely they will ever grow now. Because of this they do not recommend the cataract surgery, primarily because the outcome will likely be less than desirable and normal vision will most likely never be achieved. Because Rudy has never known any different, his poor vision should not deter him from living a normal, healthy life. A follow up is recommended in six months time to monitor the progression and any adverse effects of his current condition.
Owner Info: Rudy is in foster care with a Lab rescue, they took him from the shelter because they thought they had a home for him, which did not happen. Rudy has been in his current foster home since 10/11/2011. He was examined by NCSU Vet School when they got him and they wanted to exam him again at one year to see if cataract surgery would help. He was re-examined last week, and they said that surgery would compound the situation. He has 40-50% vision and gets around very well. He's been posted on their website, shown to many Jack Russell/beagle lovers and taken to adoptathons. Rudy is currently an indoor dog, confined to one area of the house. He is housebroken and leash trained and knows commands such as come, sit and heel. He is an outgoing boy, good with people and children of all ages as well as other dogs, cats and small animals. He gets around very, very well, can run and play like a normal visioned dog. He can't see well when he gets down out of the car and often needs a little help. He is a very healthy, happy little guy and they want to see him go to a very loving home.

Kylie - Adopted

Name: Kylie
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Pomeranian/Chihuahua Mix
Age: 8 ½ years
Location: Bruce, WI

Vet/Medical Info: On 11/15/2011 Kylie had a dental, several teeth were extracted. She had bloodwork done and everything was within the normal range. Kylie is spayed. Verified info from previous ownership - Kylie received her rabies vaccination (1 yr) on 5/4/2011. She received her distemper (DA2PP) and bordatella vacs on 9/30/2011, she also had a fecal and HW test on this date - both negative.

Owner Info: DOB August 2003. Kylie was listed with us last year, she was adopted in November and now her new owners are wanting to find a new home for her. Kylie has been showing aggression/nipping at the husband. They have 3 year old son and are concerned for his safety. They have contacted prior owner but she cannot take her back. Also contacted veterinarian for rehoming help and contacted family member who works at PetSmart. According to prior owner, Kylie has bilateral retinal degeneration and has been blind for approximately 2-3 years. They adopted her when she was three months old, she had come into the vet her past owner worked at with a broken leg. She made sure Kylie got the surgery and rehabilitation she needed. The right rear leg doesn't bend, but its functional and she has little to no pain in it. Her previous owner stated she was wonderful with kids, her 9 month old could pull on her hair and pet her and do basically whatever and she just licks him. Kylie was trained to be a therapy dog (group was called the Delta Therapy group, since disbanded) so she has had a lot of obedience training. She has basic and advanced obedience along with therapy dog certification. Because of her fused leg she cannot walk down stairs but can walk up (now with strict supervision due to her blindness). Her previous owner also stated she does well with smaller dogs but is very fearful of larger dogs, she is good with cats and small animals. Her previous owner stated she moved around slowly and she had a special harness made for her that has a bar in front that acted as a bumper so she doesn't head butt the wall. With her new owners, Kylie is currently on a weight-loss diet and exercise for mobility. In spite of her issues, she's an active dog. Kylie is presently an indoor dog with the run of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained. She's a clever girl and knows commands such as sit, stop, come, stay, lay down, step up, step down, turn around, watch out, let's go potty, let's go eat, let's go night night and let's get a carrot. She is an outgoing girl, good with women, teenagers and other dogs. Kylie adapted to her new home very well, she had no trouble with layout of house, had it mastered within a day. Outside of her aggression issues towards the husband, she's been a fantastic, lovable dog. Kylie's owners are willing to transport Kylie to wherever needed if it helps get her that much closer to finding a new home.

Toby - Outcome Unknown

Name: Toby
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Border Collie Mix
Age: 2 years approximately
Location: Lucasville, OH

Vet/Medical Info: Toby visited the vet on 2/1/2012, he is neutered and weighs 31.2 pounds. He received DHPP vaccinations and a 3 year rabies shot. He was tested for heartworm, lyme, e.canis and anaplasmosis - all negative.

Owner Info: Toby was a stray dropped off with other strays. His current owners have had over 15 dogs dropped off at sugar cove in the last three months, they mainly have Chihuahua's. Toby is bigger than the dogs they usually rescue, right now they have mostly older dogs whose owners have passed away. They are afraid he is going to hurt one of the smaller dogs, he seems to get frustrated a lot. Toby is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house, he is housebroken but not leash trained. Toby has been going outside and at night they use puppy pads in the amish building, he also uses them. He is nervous and shy. Toby shows some aggression around food, when they gave him a treat he dropped it and then went berserk. He showed aggression toward the Chi's. It looks like Toby has no colored part to his eyes. He looks very healthy and his coat is good. They would like him to be somewhere where he can find a home, the Chi's are not the most patient neighbors and they don't want them fighting, it's is not fair to keep him in a crate most of the time.

Mister - In BDRA Foster Care

Name: Mister
Sex: Male (altered – although unable to be verified)
Breed: Toy Poodle
Age: 6 years approximately
Location: Vass, NC

Vet/Medical Info: Mister’s medical history is unknown and we have not been able to verify that he is neutered.

Owner Info: Mister was found in a thunderstorm in a cow pasture. He is a neutered, purebred toy poodle and barely weighs a thing. He is blind and deaf, very sweet but scared. After searching lost/found dog sites and posting him everywhere, the lady caring for him realized his family was not looking for him. She rescues and rehomes dogs all the time, but wanted this baby to go to a home with someone with experience in dealing with a blind or deaf baby. Mister has been an inside dog with the run of the house since being with his rescuer, he is not housebroken or leash trained. He is good with people and children of all ages as well as other dogs, cats and small animals. He adjusts well to new situations, he has been in two different homes with two different sets of dogs since she found him. She was in GA at the time visiting family and he stayed there before returning to her home in NC. She wishes she could help with vet bills, but has no job and no extra money. He needs to see a vet asap, she believes he has a cold and he needs his ears looked at. He can see blocks of light sometimes and if you are standing up and wave, he can see your movement and will walk toward you. His ears are definitely bothering him, she has cleaned them twice, but something else is going on. His teeth appear decent, no rotten or loose ones and his gums are in good shape. She wishes she could keep this baby, but currently has five dogs (in a rental house with a two dog limit) and also has four other dogs being kept in foster homes currently, that she is trying to rehome.

No Name Australian Shepherd Mix - Reunited With Owner

Name: No name
Sex: Female (we have not been able to verify if she is altered or not)
Breed: Australian Shepherd Mix
Age: Age unknown, Senior
Location: Bakersfield, CA

Vet/Medical Info: Dog is missing her right eye and has corneal scarring over two thirds of cornea on left eye. In one part of notes it said she does not appear deaf, but then in another part it says blind and deaf, receptionist was not sure if she's deaf as well. She has severe dental disease, no arrhythmias noted. They noted a 2-inch lipoma-like mass on left axillary region. Metal sutures were palpable in abdominal wall, she didn't know if that meant dog was spayed or not.

Owner Info: On 1/28/2012 an older dog was found on a good samaritan's porch - she is missing one eye and mostly blind in the other, possibly deaf. She had a collar with a tag from a vet, they called it but it turned out to be a dead end. They are going to continue looking for her owners (they had her scanned for a microchip, there wasn't one), they don't hold out much hope of finding them. They have contacted several animal rescues in their area (Bakersfield SPCA and Alpha Canine), neither had room for her. They have her inside, confined to one area of the house, she appears to be housebroken. They have found her to be good with people and good with other dogs. She briefly met their cat and showed no aggression towards it. She seems to adapt well and has quickly bonded with them. She is missing her right eye and has what the emergency vet described as an old injury to her left eye. She appears to be able to distinguish light and dark, but they don't think she can see much. She is very affectionate and loving and despite her physical limitations, she seems to have a lot of life left in her. They only hope she can find a place that can give her the love and care she needs and deserves. They already have three dogs (the legal limit in their area) and a cat and are stretched to the limit taking care of them.
