Cory

Name: Cory
Breed: German Shepherd Mix
Age: Estimated 3-4 years
Sex: Male (not altered)
Location: Dayton, OH

Vet Info: Cory is UTD with vaccinations but not yet neutered according to the Corgi Rescue he is currently with.

Owner Info: Cory was rescued by a Corgi rescue who are now looking for a forever home or other rescue, perhaps a blind dog rescue or special needs, where he will have more of a chance of finding a good home. Anyone who has ever known a blind dog will tell you that once acclimated, you forget they are blind and they are the same loving dogs, if not more so than the fully sighted! Cory will be no different, as he has already shown. This is the info we have from the rescue – “I rescued a 3-4 year old blind Shepherd mix from Anniston Animal Shelter in Annison, AL. I named him Cory. He weighs about 65-70 lbs and is completely blind but is a very smart dog. He can leave his wire crate in the living room, go outside to the patio and walk around the entire yard, come back on the patio and walk into his crate in the living room. I am a Corgi Rescue and I will have a hard time placing this dog into a good home. Therefore, I am interested in getting him into a blind rescue where he will have more of a chance of a good home. Is there anyone out there that will help this dog or knows of any rescue that might take him? Any help is most appreciated.

Chelsea - Outcome Unknown

Name: Chelsea
Age: Estimated 7-10 years
Breed: Chihuahua
Sex: Male (unsure if altered)
Location: Chelsea, MA area

Vet Info: According to the good samaritans who found Chelsea, he weighs about 10-12 pounds.

Owner Info: Chelsea wandered into a yard yesterday with no collar or tags, and the good samaritans who found him are only able to keep him until Monday, per their landlord.  They say that Chelsea has no top teeth and his tongue hangs out.  Chelsea is blind in one eye. His nails are very long.  They did not notice any fleas, but Chelsea does have worms.  He's been eating some kibble and did eat soft dog food as well.  They don't believe he's been abused - just abandoned. Chelsea seems friendly with both males and females, but they have no idea about other animals.  Due to worms, they have him in their basement so there is no contact with their dog. He appears house trained, and they are not sure if he's leash trained or knows any commands. They are fairly new to the area and have tried to contact people they know to take him, but they've been unable to find him a home.  Their landlord will only allow them to keep until Monday, and then Chelsea has to go.  They've called every shelter to see if anybody has reported a lost dog of his description, with no luck, and they have no transportation to take him to a vet.  The shelter will collect Chelsea on Monday if they cannot find another place for him.

Owner Info: Liberty is a beautiful girl who has recently gone blind due to acute onset cataracts caused by diabetes.  Liberty's owners live on over three acres near the Everglades, and their property is no longer safe for Liberty to wander alone.  As much as it breaks their hearts and they wish they could keep Liberty, they say their living environment poses a danger to her now as she is not able to protect herself against armadillos, snakes and raccoons.  Liberty is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard, however they are now keeping her in the garage.   Liberty is housebroken but not leash trained, and she even knows the commands, "Sit", "come", and "watch out!"  Her owners write, "She is very different since becoming blind, can not hunt and roam property like before. We keep her inside and take her out regularly and when she barks...She lets us know when she needs to go out".   Liberty is somewhat shy and very mild-mannered, and she is good with people of all ages.  She ignores other dogs and won't try to play with them.   She is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has never shown any aggression.   Her owners write that Liberty is, "very docile and good natured, seeks love constantly, just wants you to pet her. Angel - Adopted

Name: Angel
Age: 10 or 11 years
Breed: Rat Terrier Mix
Sex: Female (confirmed altered)
Location: Springfield, IL area

Vet Info: Angel is confirmed spayed and heartworm negative.  Rabies, distemper, and bordetella vaccines were given at the shelter.   Angel weighs 12 pounds.  Her caregiver writes, "The vet felt that good nutrition and a stable home was what she needed most. She lost a lot of weight over the past two years, but she is now on a good diet. She has some raw patches on her paws and legs, most likely from living in a crate. The vet did scrapings, and there was no mange and no infected areas to treat."

Owner Info: Angel is a beautiful and very sweet little girl who was adopted from a high-kill county shelter to keep her safe.  She had been adopted two years ago from the same shelter, and unfortunately, she was not well cared for prior to being returned to the shelter.  Her temporary caregiver is unable to keep her as she is battling health issues, and they're hoping for rescue or adoption for Angel!   She may be able to see shadows, but was already blind when she was picked up as a stray previously.  Angel is an indoor dog with run of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained.  She is good with men, women, and older children, however younger children may be too rough for her.  She is also good with male and female dogs and lives with another dog now!  Angel is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, has never bitten or snapped, and has never shown any aggression.  Angel adapts well to new situations, and her caregiver writes, "it is amazing how quickly she has adjusted to the new house, porch and yard."  She also writes, "Angel is precious!   She will make someone a wonderful little lap dog. She loves the attention and being held and petted … she has been so starved for attention the past two years".

Below is Angel's shelter post:
Please read the heartfelt plea from beautiful Angel below....
Carol, her shelter contact, wrote, " She is the sweetest little girl you can imagine."  (The first picture is from two years ago when Angel was originally adopted, and the last photo of sweet Angel was taken at the end of June).

I didn’t think I would be sending this appeal again … I thought I had my forever home back in 2011, but this weekend I was returned to the shelter. And it’s probably a good thing. I spent a lot of time being locked up in a crate, and I’m malnourished now. My name is Angel. I don’t know about things like “disabilities,” and I certainly don’t feel sorry for myself, even though I am blind. (However, I truly am terrified living in a kennel around all of the noise and commotion at Animal Control.) Being older AND blind is going to make it difficult for me to get adopted, so my only hope is for a kind soul to accept me into a rescue organization. I’m hoping that kind soul is YOU. (I think that I am VERY loving and adoptable, but right now I’d settle for a nice foster home.)

Love,

Angel
