Shaggy - Staying With Owner

Name: Shaggy
Age: 8 years
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Australian Shepherd
Location: Central Florida

Vet Info: Shaggy is up to date on his rabies and distemper. He is heartworm negative. He has been neutered. He is in good health and is blind.

Owner Info: Shaggy is 8 years old and weighs 60 pounds (he is a little bit overweight). He was born blind due to merle to merle breeding. His current owner has had him for 6 years. She just found out she is pregnant, and decided she cannot manage a baby and manage Shaggy too, so she wants Shaggy to have a new home where he will get lots of attention and love. Shaggy is an indoor dog and he is housetrained and leash trained. He is good with adults and with dogs, but not with cats, and should not be in a home with kids either. He has demonstrated food aggression. His owner said: "When eating and/or drinking, he growled and then snapped at the dog who walked near him. Also, when I was pouring his food into a container (not feeding him), about 2 minutes later he attempted to bite my roommate's dog who walked by the same area I had had the food." He has not broken the skin of the other dog. Shaggy gets a little nervous in a new setting but then adapts. He is a dog with a lot of energy and he is looking for a good home!!

Teddy - In Foster Care

Name: Teddy
Age: Estimated 4 years
Breed: Beagle
Sex: Male (altered)
Location: Northeast AR

Vet Info: Teddy is confirmed neutered. He is up to date on vaccines and received one-year rabies, distemper, and parvo vaccines on 4/30/14. A fecal sample was also negative at that time. He is heartworm positive. Teddy weighs approximately 35 pounds.

Owner Info: Teddy is a very handsome fellow currently in a foster home through another rescue. He was originally saved from a kill shelter. The foster home has another dog that doesn't like Teddy, and they are unable to find a different foster home for him. Teddy has been in three different foster homes, but the first was not able to keep him, and the second and third both had dogs that didn't like him.  Teddy is completely blind. One eye has a cataract and the other has an ulcer, likely due to an untreated eye infection. The rescue has been told that Teddy's cataract can be fixed, and they're trying to raise funds for his surgery. Teddy is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained. He is good with people of all ages and both male and female dogs. Teddy is not possessive of toys, treats, or food. The only time he's ever shown aggression is "after he was attacked by another dog and even then he only howled and snapped but did not go after the dog" (he did not bite or lunge at the dog).  His current foster says he adapts to new situations very well! She writes, "He adapted to my home almost immediately. I have been shocked at his ability to adapt!"

Update 7/11/14: We've heard from Teddy's current rescue, and there is $1,000 in donations to be used specifically for Teddy's cataract surgery to a legitimate 501c3 rescue who is able to place him!  Teddy's current foster will also transport Teddy, so please do not let distance be a factor!

Porkchop - Adopted

Name: Porkchop
Age: 1 year
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Chihuahua Doxie Mix?
Location: Southern Arizona

Vet Info: Porkchop is neutered and has had a one year rabies shot.

Owner Info: Porkchop was taken in by a local rescue when he was just a puppy and has been with this rescue for 8 months. His vision issues became apparent as he got older, and he seems to see better at night. His eyes are reportedly healthy. He is 22 pounds. He is an outdoor dog during the day (in a crate inside at night) who is not yet housebroken or leash-trained. He is shy when he first meets someone but then warms up quickly and does quite well. He is a smart dog, and figures out things, like how to use a dog door, quickly. The rescue says that Porkchop is "a sweet dog and very easy to love!"

Update 11/18/14: Sadly, Porkchop has still not found a home. He is SO SWEET! We did see a dog a few weeks ago that looked like his twin. It is a corgi / dachshund mix. So perhaps you can change the breed on his listing or mentioned in the write-up about him that we feel he is part dachshund or Corgi. He's very muscular and strong. Even though his mother was a Chihuahua mix, you would not be able to tell it by his appearance.
