Binky - Adopted

Name: Binky
Age: One year
Sex: Female (confirmed altered)
Breed: Spaniel Mix
Location: Rock Hill, SC area

Vet Info: Binky is confirmed spayed and up to date on vaccines. She is next due for her rabies vaccine in April, 2015. She is heartworm negative. Binky weighs about 24 pounds.

Owner Info: Binky is an adorable little girl who was rescued in March. Her rescue has had two failed placements with her and could tell there was an issue. A visit with an eye specialist determined she is completely blind. She is with a very small rescue who has not been able to place her due to their lack of contacts and they are very much hoping for BDRA placement for her. Binky is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard, she is not housebroken but is leash trained. She is good with both men and women and male dogs, but isn't too sure about female dogs. They write that she has tried to fight a female dog when the dog came into her area without a proper introduction, but neither dog was harmed. We asked for more details about how she is with other dogs and cats, and they wrote, " Binky has met one cat and one of the failed placement homes. First she couldn't see it and then she was scared of it. According to the lady that had her she never tried to bother the cat. However, I can't guarantee that would be the case with every cat. I introduced Binky last night to two puppies that I have (fosters) and she loved them. She wanted to play but also had a mother instinct to clean them etc. Binky is very attached to me and is a wonderful dog. She does seem to put her guard up with dogs she doesn't know. To be honest, I have just kept her away from any others just to make sure there are no more problems. So with an experienced person, she may learn to be fine with all dogs." Binky can be somewhat skittish when approached, but when she has time to smell you, she flips over for belly rubs! She also loves to go for walks and they tell us she needs room to run. They add that she's a wonderful and sweet girl and they are hoping someone can help her! "She is a wonderful sweet girl and all I want is someone to help her. I am asking you for help because I know I can't."

Britney - In BDRA Foster Care!

Name: Britney
Age: 13 years
Breed: Dachshund
Sex: Female (altered per current caregiver, not confirmed)
Location: Allentown, PA area

Vet Info: Britney is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative per current caregiver, but this has not been confirmed. Britney weighs about 25 pounds. Her caregiver writes that there is a discharge seen from her eyes, but they don't have the funds to get it checked.

Owner Info: Britney is a beautiful and very sweet little girl whose owner has lung cancer and had to move to an apartment that doesn't allow dogs. Her family is unable to keep Britney, and they are desperately hoping for rescue as soon as possible. They have had no luck so far, and they do not want to have to put her down. Her current caregiver tells us it's a really desperate situation, and Britney is now living at her school apartment which isn't allowed. She's reached out to several people and other rescues but no one is able to help. Britney really has no home at all. She is very urgent! Britney is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained. She also knows "sit!" Britney is good with people of all ages, male and female dogs, and cats. She can be possessive with toys, treats, or food, but has never bitten or snapped or shown aggression.  When asked to describe in detail the dog's eye condition, her caregiver writes, "Sometimes severe discharge from eyes and other times it's not as severe." They also want us to know she's very active, healthy and happy despite her eye condition!  They are desperately hoping for rescue as soon as possible. They tell us that they really need help and they can't keep her, and are very much hoping we'll have a place for her. She needs rescue as soon as possible.

Maya - In Memory

Name: Maya
Age: 1 1/2 years
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Doberman
Location: Raleigh, NC

Vet Info: Maya has been spayed. The vet has no record of her shots or her HW status (the rescue who currently has Maya reports she is HW positive). The vet suspects trauma caused Maya's vision loss plus her head tilt.

Owner Info: Maya is a 1.5 year old female red Doberman who has spent most of her life in a backyard until she was sent to a shelter, and a rescue pulled her from the shelter three months ago. She is spayed, 55 pounds, up to date on vaccines, and does well in a wire crate. She is a very sweet girl that loves to be near you but has not yet been socialized very well. She can be mouthy, paw at everything, and might spin when she comes out of the crate. When she looks at you, she cocks her head to one side and holds her paw up - she is a very cute and sweet little girl! She is completely blind in her left eye and has only partial vision in her right. Upon eye examination, the vet says her eye structure is normal but believes that the blindness may be due to trauma that affected her optical nerves. It appears she either has selective hearing or hearing loss; she can hear the other dogs bark but doesn’t seem to hear the vacuum cleaner. This may be another reason that she has not responded well to the ‘no’ command. She is fine with all adults but she has not been around children. She also has not been introduced to other dogs directly but has had contact with them when she is in a crate, and she was fine - wiggling and trying to play, and other times she would bark at them. She has also not been around cats. Maya needs someone knowledgeable about blind dogs to help her through to her happy forever after. She is a sweet girl that would make a wonderful family member.

Baby

Name: Baby
Age: Estimated 12 years
Breed: Terrier / Chi mix
Sex: Female (altered)
Location: Carrollton, TX area

Vet Info: Baby is not up to date on vaccines and has not had a recent heartworm test. She is confirmed spayed. Baby weighs about 15 pounds.

Owner Info: Baby is an adorable little terrier / chi mix whose owner's husband had a horrible vehicular accident. He suffered a TBI and blindness. Baby's owner works full time and is unable to care for both her husband and Baby. She was able to find a temporary foster home for Baby, but Baby is still in need of rescue or a permanent home. As Baby hasn't been to the vet in over a year, they write that there is a possibility she's having sight issues. Other than that, they write that Baby is in good health, but tends to have skin irritations. Baby is housebroken, crate trained and leash trained and is good with both men and women. A home with smaller children may frighten her. Baby is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, but her previous owner wrote that she can be more aggressive to smaller animals and may not be good with cats, unless the cat is defensive. If the cat is submissive, Baby will chase. She has snapped, but has never broken skin. Baby has been loved for many years, and this has been a very difficult decision for them. They've had Baby for about 11 years.

Bamboo - Adopted

Name: Bamboo
Age: Approximately 4-5 years
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Doberman Pinscher
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico area

Vet Info: Bamboo is confirmed neutered and weighs 60 pounds. He is current with vaccinations and is heartworm negative. He is microchipped.  The vet’s office said he was unresponsive to sound stimuli and has some vision but only when objects are right in front of him. They were unsure as to the cause of his impairments.  They added, "he is a really sweet guy!"

Owner Info: Bamboo is a deaf, vision-impaired Doberman pinscher who currently with rescue and is waiting for his forever home. No one at the rescue is trained to work with a dog with his impairments and they want to find an adopter willing to go through the training he needs to live a full life. Bamboo was a stray at the local shelter. He is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard, not house-broken or leash-trained. His current foster says he “is not good in the house, he will mark, put his paws on the counters and there is no way to correct him with our limited knowledge of how to deal with a deaf dog.” However, they also note that he is smart and “he is adaptable and learns quickly” and “a full food bowl is a tool that has worked so well.” Bamboo will even sit for his dinner! Bamboo is outgoing and good with men, women, and female dogs. His foster says “he has a high prey drive with small animals” and he is not good with cats or small dogs.  Bamboo’s caretaker also says, “Like most rescue groups our foster space is quite limited. As long as Bamboo is here we cannot rescue other dogs that are more adoptable. At this time Bamboo is fine spending the day outside with shade and a safe place to be all day and in a crate at night. Soon the weather will not permit that situation. Everyone loves Bamboo but he is a special case and needs the love and dedication of a forever home.”

Aubrey - Outcome Unknown

Name: Aubrey
Age: 12 years (estimated)
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Min Pin / Terrier Mix
Location: Huntington, WV area

Vet Info: Aubrey is not up to date on vaccines and has not been recently heartworm tested. We have confirmed she is spayed. Aubrey weighs 12 pounds.

Owner Info: Aubrey's owners have relocated and are unable to take her with them. They are very much hoping for rescue or adoption as soon as possible for sweet Aubrey! They have another blind dog, Jimmie, who also needs rescue and was posted earlier. While they do love each other, they are not a bonded pair. Aubrey's owners have tried other rescues and family and friends, but have not been successful.  Aubrey is an indoor dog with run of the house. She is good with men and women, and both male and female dogs. Young children may frighten Aubrey and a home without children is recommended. She has been raised with her owner's children, but they do not know how she would react to other children. Aubrey is housebroken and leash trained. She can be possessive of toys, treats, or food, and since she lost her sight, her owners write that she has become more "snappy", but only snaps when other dogs attempt to take her toys or bones. She is completely blind "stemming from a dog attack that occurred a few years ago". Other than that, they write that Aubrey is healthy and has no evident health issues. Her owners want us to know that "Aubrey is a very sweet dog, she is older so she does like to sleep a fair amount. She does love toys and has always "gutted" them and likes to toss around the remains. She is still very playful with the other dogs that we have in our home as well as my children."

Jimmie - Outcome Unknown

Name: Jimmie
Age: 6 years
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Chihuahua
Location: Huntington, WV area

Vet Info: Jimmie is not up to date on vaccines and has not been recently heartworm tested. He is confirmed neutered. Jimmie weighs 10 pounds.

Owner Info: Jimmie's owners have relocated and are unable to take him with them. They are very much hoping for rescue or adoption as soon as possible for sweet Jimmie! They have another blind dog who also needs rescue and will be posted shortly. They are not a bonded pair. Jimmie is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained. He is good with people of all ages and both male and female dogs. He is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never shown any aggression. Jimmie is completely blind, and his owners write, "His blindness was a result of two separate dog attacks. He has adapted very well to not having his sight. Jimmie is able to go up steps, but never mastered the ability to go down them after the accident....We previously owned a dog that had a propensity to snap at other dogs. While Jimmie was younger he attempted to play with her and was bitten. Several thousands of dollars was spent to spare Jimmie."  They also write that Jimmie appears to be an emotional eater and when not with their daughter, he tends to eat less. They add that Jimmie is a very sweet and loving dog and tell us, "Jimmie just wants someone to love on him and hold him." This has been a very difficult decision for them and they are heartbroken it had to be made.

Track - Staying With Owner

Name: Track
Age: Unknown
Breed: Pit Bull Mix
Sex: Male (not altered)
Location: Central South Carolina

Vet Info: Track has not been vetted. His weight is unknown.

Owner Info: Track is a gorgeous Pit Bull Mix who was found on the side of the road between the highway and the railroad tracks. The good samaritan who found him travels and works a lot, and is unable to keep him. She has not yet been able to find him rescue or a new home. She would love for him to have a family and home of his very own! Track is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard, he is not housebroken or leash trained. Track is good with both men and women and his caregiver's two cats, which he seems "to shy away from". She has not seen him with other dogs, but says he's very sweet and loving and believes he'd be fine with other dogs. He is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never shown any aggression. Track appears to have a swollen face with some abrasions and she writes that his eyes look cloudy and he scratches at them with his paw. He does bump into things, and when he does, he will sit and then lay down. He does come when you talk to him and make kissing noises. She says Track is a very sweet and loving boy and she "wants him to have a good life with a loving family and a happy healthy life."

Update 11/19/14: Track is doing well but he's still very much hoping for a family of his own! Please continue to crosspost Track for rescue only!

Billy - Adopted

Name: Billy
Age: Estimated 2 or 3 years
Breed: Hound Mix
Sex: Male (not altered)
Location: Lynchburg, VA area

Vet Info: Billy received his one-year rabies, distemper, and parvo vaccines on July 28th. He is heartworm negative, but did test positive for ehrlichia and is on antibiotics. He was also treated for hookworms. Billy weighs about 23 pounds and is gaining weight - he should max out around 30 pounds. The vet's office commented on what a sweet boy he is!

Owner Info: Billy is a very handsome and very sweet hound mix who was found as a stray. His caregiver believes it's likely he was abandoned because he could not hunt. His caregiver is unable to keep him herself and would love him to have a home of his very own! He's currently being cared for at her boarding facility. She's tried other rescues but has had no luck. No one has reported him missing. Billy has detached retinas (no known cause) and appears completely blind, but may see shadows. Billy is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained. He is good with both men and women, but has not yet been around children. He is good with other dogs and cats and his caregiver gave us more details about how he does with other dogs and cats. "One of my employees takes him home when we are full and he has had exposure to cats when at her home. No aggression towards other animals exhibited. He gets very excited and playful when meeting other dogs. ".... "I did introduce Billy to my older male (60 lb. Retriever mix) and all went well between the two. I hadn’t introduced him to other males at my boarding facility mostly because I was choosing those dogs who weren’t so high energy so that he wouldn’t be overwhelmed and it just happened to be females at the time. Perhaps because he is still intact, he appeared more excited when meeting the females than my male dog! And my male is a senior, so he wasn’t in a playful mood, and Billy didn’t feel any vibes to pursue playing with him."  Billy is a very sweet boy, and his caregiver tells us that when he's not sure of a situation (such as a new sound), he tends to back away or freeze. And despite being malnourished, he eats slowly and takes treats very gently. He is not possessive of toys, treats or food and has not shown any aggression since being with his caregiver. He appears to be crate trained and did fabulous in a crate - no barking or crying.  Billy's caregiver wants us to know that "Billy is a sweet and docile little guy. He has blossomed already in our care, playing with toys and has enjoyed meeting new dogs. He obviously has been in the company of other dogs before. He did very well when crated and in an outdoor run, so was likely confined previously. When indoors he still needs supervision to not chew on hazardous items, like electrical cords and such, but he has responded to redirection very well." He is a real sweetheart!
