Bentley - Adopted

Name: Bentley
Age: 5 years
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Maltese
Location: Southern Florida

Vet Info: Bentley is neutered. He is not up to date on his shots (see owner information below). He is heartworm negative. He has retinal degeneration and is blind. He is healthy.

Owner Info: Bentley's owner has had him since he was 8 weeks old. Bentley went blind over the last year and now, when his owner is at work, he "gnaws on himself and pees/poops all over his cage." Otherwise, he is completely housetrained. He weighs 15-20 pounds. He gets sick with his vaccinations so is not up to date. He is an indoor dog and is leash-trained. He knows the commands to sit and shake. He gets along with people of all ages, but dogs that are bigger than he is make him nervous and he may growl, but he has never bitten or hurt another dog. The current owner found another home for him and he went there for a week and "did great" but the new owner hurt her back and had to return Bentley. There were no problems with Bentley in the new home. Bentley is a great dog who needs someone who is home most to all of the day.

Max - Adopted

Name: Max
Age: 11 years
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: English Cocker Spaniel
Location: Jacksonville, FL

Vet Info: Max's owner says he is neutered but this has not been confirmed. He is not current with vaccinations and has not been heartworm tested. Max weighs 38 lbs and is microchipped.

Owner Info: Max is an indoor dog with run of the house. He is house-broken and leash-trained. His owner reports that he knew commands including sit, come, stay, go eat, and time for bed, but also that he can't hear or see. We weren't given any further information other than that he is completely blind. Max was described as good with men, women, and kids, as well as male and female dogs. He has never shown aggression and never bitten or snapped at anyone. Max's owner said that he is healthy, well cared-for and loved.

Cooper - In Memory

Name: Cooper
Age: 2 ½ years
Breed: Yellow Labrador/Great Pyrenees
Sex: Male (altered)
Location: Peoria, IL area

Vet Info: Cooper is confirmed neutered. He is up to date on vaccines and is next due for the rabies, distemper, and bordetella vaccines on 6/4/15. He is heartworm negative and receives the Proheart Injection, which is next due in December. Cooper weighs 85 pounds.

Owner Info: DOB February 2012. Cooper is a very handsome and sweet fellow whose owners are raising their newborn grandson. Cooper is having difficulty around the newborn and this has become a concern. He is being kept penned up more than normal and is becoming depressed. They feel Cooper needs more than they can provide, and they write, "Quality of life being penned up with no other companion has disclosed a behavior where Cooper becomes "depressed" acting and lack of appetite." They are very much hoping for rescue for sweet Cooper. Cooper is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained. He is completely blind and they write that his eyes appear normal and are green in color. Cooper is a smart boy! He knows several commands including, Stop, Step, Slow Down, Stay, Lay Down, Sit, Come, and Do Not Eat! Cooper is good with both men and women, but a home without children is recommended. They also tell us that Cooper is great with other dogs. "Our sons have dogs and one is a rescued boxer mix and the other is a lab great Pyrenees as well, only with vision. They all get along great." Cooper is also good with cats. Cooper is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has never shown any aggression. He perks up around other dogs (he loves when their son brings his dog over - he becomes a different dog and his appetite improves!), and they want us to know that he's an awesome dog! They write, "Cooper is an awesome obedient dog. He just needs to be around other dogs for companion. He would not be good in a home with newborn children as we have experienced with our own grandson".

Beau

Name: Beau
Age: 6 years
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Bichon Frise
Location: Oklahoma

Vet Info: Beau is neutered and up to date on vaccines. He received the bordetella and rabies vaccine (one year) on 6/16/14, and also tested heartworm negative that day. He received a DHP booster on 7/17/14. Beau has seen an ophthalmologist, and he has cataracts. He is about 75 - 80% blind in both eyes, however his eye pressures are normal and there is no inflammation. Beau weighs 25 pounds.

Owner Info: Beau is a very handsome little fellow who was one of eight Bichons saved by a rescue after his owner died. He's not able to stay in his current foster home and they are very much hoping for a place within BDRA for him! Beau is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is not housebroken, but he is leash trained, and he knows "sit!" Beau is good with both men and women, but a home without smaller children is recommended. He is good with both male and female dogs. Beau appears to be food possessive, and "has growled and gone after another dog in the foster home when the other dog went near his food... He has never bitten another dog nor person..He is now fed alone without any issues." Beau is overweight and is on a special food, and he's doing well! His current foster said he bonded very quickly, and they believe he will acclimate very well to a new home. They add that Beau is a sweet and gentle soul! He will greet you at the door and follow close to you. He likes to be near his person and will sleep at your feet. At bedtime he likes to be close by your side and loves to be petted and spoken to!

Please do not let distance be a factor in deciding to foster. The rescue has offered to fly him to any BDRA foster home more than five hours away!

Rocky - Adopted

Name: Rocky
Age: Estimated 5 - 6 weeks
Sex: Male (not altered)
Breed: Pit Bull Mix?
Location: Phoenix, AZ

Vet Info:  The puppy is now healthy per our contact.  He has not received vaccines.  He weighs 10 pounds.

Owner Info:  This adorable little puppy was found near an office building over a week ago. He was very sick, dehydrated, and full of worms.  He is now healthy, but they've discovered he is blind.  He is currently staying with a friend of the person who contacted us, and they are desperately hoping for rescue as soon as possible for him as his current conditions are quite bleak.  The puppy is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house, he is not housebroken or leash trained.  He appears completely blind and they believe he's been blind since birth.   He is good with people of all ages!  He is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never bitten or snapped.  Our contact wants us to know that although he is somewhat "clingy" to the person who has been keeping him since he was released from the vet, he's incredibly sweet and seems very well adjusted!  And isn't he adorable!
