Dino - Adopted

Name: Dino
Age: 5 years
Breed: Bully Mix
Sex: Male (altered)
Location: Southwest Virginia

Vet Info: Dino is confirmed neutered and up to date on vaccines, including rabies, bordetella, distemper, and parvo.  He is heartworm negative.  Dino weighs about 60 pounds.  His rescue writes that he appears completely blind.

Dino's Info: Dino is a very handsome boy who was kept on a chain for most of his life, and neighbors stated that his food was just thrown on the ground for him to find. He was surrendered to the local animal shelter, and then pulled from the shelter by a small rural rescue for an out-of-state adopter.  The rescue arranged all vetting for Dino, but the adopter's situation has changed and she has backed out.  They do not have any foster homes available, and Dino is now in boarding.  He can't stay in boarding for long, and they are very much hoping for an experienced placement or adoptive home for Dino as soon as possible. Dino is an indoor dog who is crated, he is housebroken and leash trained.  Dino loves people and his rescue writes that he's great with both men and women and wants to be petted and loved on all the time!  But given his history and that he never had enough to eat, Dino is currently food aggressive and has snapped at the other dog he's with (his son).  He has never broken skin. They gave us more information about Dino and his son, Rango, and Dino is already making progress with treats!  "He warns him by growling. It's always triggered over something Dino has that he feels he can eat (food, treats, or outside it was even cat litter). With other dogs, it's more of a 'something walked by. Omg what was it'. We separate them to feed, never give treats together, and they do fine. He grabs Rango and has taken him to the ground, but it's more warning, he's never broken skin, which I feel he easily could. I think his aggression is based on not having things in the past and not being able to see. He's already doing better with treats, he's just overly eager and has never been aggressive with us. But he acts like he's had to fight for food, so he rushes to eat and tries to claim it all for himself." Even with his blindness, Dino seems easily adaptable and has mapped out his surroundings well.  Dino didn't have such a good start, but he's finally free of his chain and ready to start his new life!

Bruiser - Staying With Owner

Name: Bruiser
Age: 10 years
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Pug/Beagle Mix
Location: Philadelphia, PA area

Vet Info: Bruiser is confirmed neutered.  He was due for a rabies vaccination in August 2014.  He is heartworm negative.  Bruiser weighs about 40 pounds.

Owner Info: DOB 6/5/2005. Bruiser is a very handsome fellow who is unable to stay in his current home.  They have younger children and other dogs, and Bruiser has become increasingly aggressive since he's been blind (about four years ago).  His owners write that he is a sweet and loyal dog and would do great in a home with no other dogs or children!  They are desperately hoping to find Bruiser a new home who can give him the care he needs. Bruiser has been an indoor dog with run of the house, although he's being kept crated.  His owner writes, "He used to have run of the house, but we've been keeping him in his crate during the day and when we're home (to separate him from the kids), but I don't like doing that."  He is housebroken and leash trained.  He can be possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has shown aggression to their other dog and the children. Bruiser is completely blind and was diagnosed with Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration in 2011.  Besides his blindness, they write that he has no additional health issues.  They describe Bruiser as outgoing, and tell us "Yes, he's been an outgoing dog. He still likes to explore and even likes to play "fetch" by sniffing around for a thrown toy." They also want us to know that he's sweet and loyal!  They believe he would do great in a home with no other dogs or children.
