The last two moves have been harder on her since she is blind and has to learn a new floor plan every move. Traveling by airplane has also become a challenge giving Lola anxiety during the duration of the flight. Please help us find Lola a new home before we have to leave for our new duty station."

Update 7/8/15: We've heard from Lola's owners and she is still in need of rescue or a new home!  They are getting concerned because they are leaving for their next duty station in October and hope to have Lola in a new home well before then.
Lola is well.  We have not found a new home for her or a rescue.  It's worrisome since we are running out of time.  We would really appreciate it if you could update her post on your website/FB page.  We appreciate you following up and all the exposure you are giving us.  Thank you.

Champ - In Memory

Name: Champ
Age: 3 years
Breed: Hound / Pit Mix
Sex: Male (confirmed neutered)
Location: Rochester, NY area

Vet Info: Champ is confirmed neutered.  He is up to date on vaccines, and received a one-year rabies vaccine on 4/17/15.  He has not had a recent heartworm test.  Champ weighs about 45 pounds and is microchipped.

Owner Info: DOB 4/11/2012. Champ is a very handsome and sweet fellow who was adopted from a local shelter by a trainer who volunteers there in order to save him from euthanasia.  She adopted him with the intention of rehoming him, and is now looking for Champ's new home or rescue! Champ is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained.  He knows the commands, Sit, Down, and Off!  She is also working on obedience training with Champ.  Champ is a friendly fellow, and is good with people of all ages and both male and female dogs.  He currently lives with several other dogs.  Champ is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has never bitten or snapped.  Champ's caregiver feels he adapts well to new situations, and writes, "Champ has been with us for a month now and has adapted quite well in our home. We are a multiple dog household with many that come and go for sitting services. He has had no issues with any of our resident or visiting dogs." Champ will be seeing the ophthalmologist to determine if any sight can be restored.  His caregiver gave us more details:  "Champ was a stray in the area and AC picked him up. It was unknown why he was blind (his right eye is completely gone). He has been seen by my regular vet and he feels that the blindness is a result of blunt force trauma. The left eye has a luxated lens. We are going to an opthamologist on May 20th to see if sight can be repaired in his remaining left eye." Champ is now doing well and is healthy other than his blindness.  His caregiver tells us that, "Champ is on holistic support as he was in rough shape (dermatitis). He is taking support for his immune system (coconut oil, pumpkin, spirulina, echinacea). He had ears infection which have been treated. He is in good overall health otherwise. He has also continued to gain weight as he was somewhat thin." Champ may not have had such a great start in life, but he is hoping for his happy ending!

Update 5/22/15: Champ's caregiver has taken him to the ophthalmologist, but his sight is not able to be restored. We took Champ to see about possibly restoring the sight in his one eye. Unfortunately that is just not to be. The retina is destroyed not just the lens. He is in no pain. What he can't see with his eyes he sees with his heart!

Pikils - Staying With Owner

Name: Pikils
Age: 4 1/2 years
Breed: Border Collie
Sex: Female (altered)
Location: Austin, TX

Vet InfoPikils is spayed and up to date on vaccines, including rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordetella.  Her owner writes that she is heartworm negative but this has not been confirmed.  Pikils weighs about 45 pounds.  Her owner tells us that her blindness was sudden and immediate and caused by uveitis and glaucoma.  Other than her blindness, Pikils "is healthy and comfortable, one of her eyes may need to be removed in the future".

Owner Info: Pikils is a beautiful, sweet and gentle little girl who is afraid to be alone after becoming blind.  Her owner writes that she cries, and when she's scared, she tends to urinate.  He has been bringing her to work, but will no longer be able to do so, and the neighbors complain when he leaves her home in the apartment.  She's happy as long as she is not alone for long periods of time. In September he has to go back to work full time and he is very much hoping "someone can give her a good home way before then".  Her owner writes, "She needs a good home and I am getting to the point to where I am going to have to make a move with her not matter how painful or unpleasant it may be. my job and my residence are both in jeopardy. She desperately needs your help". He has tried to find her a home with no luck.  "I have tried everything I can think of to find her a good home. no luck. again she is so sweet and loving. she is just scared. a wonderful temperament and seems to be very happy as long as she is not alone for long periods of time. I have to leave her for a minimum of 10 hours with driving time some days back and forth to work. some days only a few hours. the few hours are ok except for the crying. its the long days that are the most trouble. so for now I bring her with me on those days." Pikils is an indoor dog with run of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained.  Her owner writes that she's a very smart girl and knows 50 words!  She knows people's names, the names of her toys, and will fetch on command!  Before she went blind, he tells us that Pikils was an excellent Frisbee dog. Pikils is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never bitten or snapped.  She is frightened of loud men and she'll get nervous and "pee on the floor".  She currently lives with a cat and a min pin.  We've asked for more information on how Pikils is with other dogs, and we will update as soon as we hear back. He wants us to know that Pikils is very gentle, loving, and sweet and he is desperately hoping we can help.

Update 5/14/15: "She is great around other dogs and cats, her best friend is a cat  lol   .... she is skidish at 1st around other dogs until the 1st sniff or 2.  I think its because she is blind and just nervous.  she was attacked by a pit bull when she was a year and a half.  hurt her pretty bad. but never aggressive.  worst thing she will do is squat and pee when she is scared or nervous.  and that has just started since she went blind this last year.  before that she is very playful around kids and dogs.  never shown any signs of aggression.    she has a new habit of giving a bark out when customers come in but she is just saying hi. and it is just a single bark.  not sure where she came up with that because she isn't a barker unless the doorbell rings...."

Boy

Name: Boy
Age: Unknown - possibly a few years?
Breed: Possible Cur Mix?
Sex: Male (not altered)
Location: Corpus Christi, TX

Vet Info: Boy hasn't been vetted.  He weighs approximately 45 pounds.  He is not neutered.

Owner Info: Boy is a very handsome and gentle fellow who was likely dumped because he is blind.  He's living in a field and is being fed by a good samaritan who is trying desperately to find him rescue.   She has tried reaching out to several rescues but has not yet had any luck. Boy's good samaritan writes, "This poor dog was dumped off - he is blind and in need of a rescue that will teach him how to adapt to surroundings. He is not aggressive at all, in fact when the other dogs jump on him for trying to eat, he just rolls over on his back and cries." Boy is an outdoor dog without restrictions, and she has never witnessed him being aggressive at all. When answering whether the dog has bitten and/or snapped, she writes, "not that I have ever witnessed, all I have ever seen him do in a confronted is run the other way or roll over and lay on his back, until the other dogs leave him alone. I have never seen him even stand up for himself or fight back in anyway." She gave us more details about Boy. "He is out in an open field where he was dumped and is just so scared, he follows another dog for guidance".  She writes that Boy looks healthy, but, "I am sure that he will need to be fully vetted". Boy's good samaritan wants us to know, "I am just hoping for this poor dog to be able to get into a rescue and stand a chance of being adopted by a loving, caring family. I do think he would be good with other dogs, because he stays with the other stray out there and uses him as guidance. I think it will take some time for him to adjust to new surroundings, since he is blind and some people don't realize it and throw things at him and scare him off when they see him. He is going to need a dedicated person to help him learn how to adapt. I would even be able to help or try to cover all of his vetting."

Update 2/13/2016:   We spoke with Boys contact today, and she has not yet been able to catch Boy, but she did catch the other dogs in the pack (and they have all gone to rescue).  Boy has now teamed up with a Husky.  His good samaritan does put out food and blankets for them, and if caught, Boy will need a place to go urgently.
