Vet Info:  This sweet fellow has not been vetted.  He weighs about 25 pounds.

Owner Info:  This sweet fellow was a stray who spent more than a month on a local highway by a neighborhood.  A good samaritan has taken him in, but her own dogs are not accepting him, and she is not able to keep him.  She is desperately hoping for rescue for this sweet boy.  She has had him for two days. His good samaritan told us more about his sight.  "He does not see food when placed in front of him, but when his nose finds it he will ravenously eat. The eyesight problem is one that I noticed, it has not been formally diagnosed." When he was first saved, he was flea and tick infested.  She's treated him for fleas and ticks, and he is healing, but he still has a lot of scabs.  He also loves being brushed!  This sweetheart is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard, but is also kept in the laundry room as it is too hot for him outside.  His good samaritan tells us he seems to be housebroken, and whines when he needs to go out.  He has not yet had an accident inside.  He is not leash trained.   He is described as skittish and shy, and very good with women!  His good samaritan didn't check that he's good with other dogs, and she gave us more details:  "...He seems to really really like me.  He will accept food from my husband but he really responds to my voice and comes when I put my hand out.  I have not exposed him to my dogs.  He has been out on the deck and they see him from inside and go berserk.  He runs in fear.  That's why I said he's not good with other dogs." He is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, and in the time he's been with his good samaritan, he's never bitten or snapped.  She writes that he is "very very afraid".  His good samaritan wants us to know that she's grateful for our help.  " I so appreciate your help.  He needs a good home and as much as he would like me to be the one to provide it, I just plain can't....."

Zion - In Memory

Name: Zion

Vet Info:  Zion is neutered. He is heartworm negative. He is not up to date with vaccines. Zion was diagnosed with chronic KCS (dry eye). Zion’s owner says, We frequently went to the vet (in the beginning, we didn't know it was KCS) and he was put on various medications (antibiotic injections, oral antibiotics, Tobramycin drops and ointment). After multiple visits to the vet when his condition didn't improve, we saw an ophthalmology veterinarian in January, who diagnosed him with KCS. Since then, he has been on prescription drugs (cyclosporine) and I also used artificial drops (tear-gel) for comfort. The ophthalmologist had said that the cyclosporine would encourage tear production, but I did not see an improvement at all. I had been cleaning his eyes liberally with water, flushing out the mucous at least two times a day before putting the drops/medication since fall, but I could not care for his eyes as diligently when I had a baby several months ago. To make the long story short, it is clear that he is now blind in both eyes. It looks like there's prolapse in his eyes and the eyeballs themselves are raw and red--like there's a thick, raw covering on top of this eyes. We believe at this stage of his illness, his eyes are completely blind... we are hoping that there is a chance of recovery, but the eyes do appear severely damaged at this point.

Owner Info: Zion is a Yorkshire Terrier mix who developed chronic KCS (dry eye syndrome) last year and is now completely blind. His owner has been diligently caring for his eyes with medications and drops but this became more difficult after she had a baby several months ago. Zion’s owners are now making the heartbreaking decision to re-home him. Zion is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house. He is house-broken and leash-trained. Zion is a smart boy who knows several commands: sit, shake, lie down, pee, poo, and come here. Zion is described as nervous and shy but good with men, women, and teenagers. Zion is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never shown aggression toward anyone, “outside of the rare occasion where he feels cornered and snaps.” Zion’s owner says, he doesn't particularly feel comfortable around young toddlers that try to chase him around and 'pet' him. He gets flustered when they do and he can make his usual 'grrrr' sound to warn them. But on a couple of occasions he did snap at them, but no harm was made and he has never broken skin.” In response to a question about how is is with other animals, she said, "Zion is very timid around other dogs. He hasn't been around cats before. Zion is by no means aggressive and has never bitten another animal or person. He tends to run away and hide.” Zion's owner wants us to know he is a great dog and they just want what's best for him. 

Precious Sister

Vet Info: Precious Sister received her first set of puppy boosters on June 12th.  She is not spayed and has not been heartworm tested.  She weighs about 17 pounds.

Owner Info: DOB 3/10/2015. Precious Sister is a beautiful puppy whose owners feel she'd be better off in a different home.  They have her parents, and her father is territorial and is not doing well with her.  They are hoping for rescue for Precious Sister. Her owner told us their vet said Precious Sister was blind when she was about five weeks old, but "she eventually opened her eyes around 8 weeks, film covers one eye completely and the other eye mostly, she does turn her head to look out that eye but she still runs into things."  Her owner adds that she will be a big dog!  Precious Sister is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard, she is not housebroken or leash trained.  She is described as outgoing, and her owner says she loves to be talked to in a baby voice!  "She loves women, especially the sweet "baby talk" her tail just wags. She has done okay without problems with my husband." Precious Sister is good with other dogs, but can be possessive of food.  Her owner tells us she has growled while eating with her brothers and sisters, and bit her brother over food, so she is fed separately.  Her owner would love to be able to find her a home that would make her happy!  

Biscuit - In Memory

Vet Info: Biscuit has not been vetted.  He weighs about 45 pounds, but his owner tells us she is having a hard time keeping weight on him, even though he's been wormed and eats a good quality food.

Owner Info: DOB 9/2014. Biscuit is an adorable Lethal White Aussie.  His owner rescued him as a puppy because his breeder was going to "kill him because he couldn't sell him".  Biscuit's owner now works out of state and can't give him the care, time, and love he needs.  She is very much hoping for rescue for sweet Biscuit! Biscuit is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard, he is not housebroken or leash trained.  Biscuit is described as outgoing, and good with people of all ages, and both male and female dogs.  He currently lives with four other dogs and a cat. Biscuit has not had his eyes checked, but his owner believes he is totally blind.   "At times he seems to be able to see shadows or large objects that move. But I am not certain." Biscuit can be possessive of food, and may show aggression if another dog is trying to eat his food "because it's his only defense".  She tells us he has never shown any other aggressive behaviors to humans or other animals other than protecting his food, and if he knows it's a person, he will not protect his food. Biscuit is a happy and sweet fellow, and his owner writes, "He is such a fun loving and happy boy. And is willing to learn and please his owner."  She also wants us to know, "He is a great natured dog and just need the love I can't give him."

Lucky - In Foster Care

Vet Info: Lucky has not been vetted.  His caregiver says that he has skin allergies and itches.  Lucky weighs about 40 pounds.

Owner Info: Lucky is a precious boy with a sad story.  Someone had thrown a whole litter over a bridge and into a creek.  Lucky's caregiver saved the litter with the intention of finding them safe homes.  She was able to find the others homes, but has not been able to find Lucky a home because he's blind.  He's now a year old and in desperate need because they are moving and cannot take him.  Lucky needs rescue before July 27th. Lucky is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard, he is not housebroken or leash trained, but Lucky knows the command Sit!  Lucky is described as outgoing, and is good with people of all ages, male and female dogs, and cats.  He currently lives with a dog and cat.   Lucky is completely blind.  Lucky's caregiver thinks he might "see shadows or light changes, but cannot actually see." Lucky is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never bitten or snapped.  The only time Lucky has ever shown aggression is when the other dog bites Lucky as he runs by. Lucky is a friendly fellow, and his caregiver writes that he welcomes new dogs into his yard with a wagging tail!  "He just wants to be loved."   She adds that, "...we are running out of time. We have to move and can't take him with us. If we can't find him a home, our choices will be sad."

Update 7/25/15: We've heard from Lucky's caregiver, and she is able to keep Lucky until Thursday, August 6th.  She is grateful for our help and thanks us very much!  However, if no home is found by then, he will be humanely euthanized.  

Lola - Adopted

Vet Info: Lola is not spayed.  She is up to date on her vaccines including rabies, and heartworm negative.  Lola weighs about 45 pounds.

Owner Info: Lola is a beautiful girl whose owner recently became a mother of two, and caring for Lola and her special needs has become overwhelming.  She knows Lola deserves a home where she can get more attention. Lola is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house, she is housebroken but not leash trained.  Lola is good with men and women, but her owner recommends a home without small children.  Lola has never bitten or snapped.  Her owner tells us that Lola does mouth hands when she is trying to figure a new person out, but has never caused harm.  Her owner also tells us that Lola loves attention and will bark at strangers, but only because she wants them to notice her!    Lola is not possessive of toys, treats, or food. Lola is partially blind.  Her owner writes, "her eyes slightly dialate, she runs into things and can see things further than 2feet away, if u toss a toy or treat etc."  She is also gluten intolerant and is fed an organic grain-free food.  Lola's owner gave us more information about how she is with other dogs and more details about her personality:  "As for her temperment with other dogs, i left that unchecked because i have never seen her interact with another dog. The neighbors dog got loose one time and was rather aggressive, lola was on the lanai and she just barked and raised all her fur. I know whenever the neighbor dog barks, she barks back. So thats about it. She never used to bark until i had my daughter. Now she barks at ppl she doesnt know at our door, or if she hears people in their yards. i assume she thinks they are intruders. If u r on lolas level she will sort of walk all over you, she seems unaware or feet etc and will step on them. She does ok with my 4yr old but he is almost 4ft tall. Any children smaller than that i wouldnt recommend. Also we did have a cat, and they played but lola would eventually get rough. It was almost like she thought the cat was her toy. The cat wld find places to get away when it had enough. We do have a very long tie for lola so she can have run of the yard and play with my son, but its tough in florida with the heat to ever have her out for very long. Also she doesnt like wet grass so she prefers being in here in rainy season. If i were to undo the gate, she will go to the master room but wld not want to be in the living room. Shes timid of terrain she doesnt have memorized and with baby jumpers, high chairs and rocking chairs constantly being shifted, she has grown to dislike the common areas."​ Lola's owner wants us to know that, "she is a great dog with a sweet personality. She is extemely loving. Unfortunately I have a son with developmental delays and a new born, i can not give the dog the attention and affection ane deserves. I would see her best in a home with grown children or a childless home. She would be best if accepted by her new owners as a member of their family where she can be cuddled and loved."​

Tinkerbell

Vet Info: Tinkerbell’s current owner has not yet taken her to the vet. She says that she still needs to get Tinkerbell’s vet records from her previous owner because they couldn’t locate them.  She said she is up to date on vaccines, except for the rabies vaccine, and is heartworm negative; however, this information as not been verified.

Owner Info: Tinkerbell is an adorable pit bull who was rescued from her previous owner who was going to have her put down. Her current owner did not know she was blind when she offered to take her. She told us, “When I got Tinkerbell I was unaware that she had any problems other than needing to get a rabies shot for this year and they agreed to give the vet paperwork but upon their arrival I was told they couldn't find it and then told she was blind and I didn't have the heart to turn her away because they were just going to drop her off at the shelter. Now I just had a baby so money is kind of tight. I knew she'd need a shot and a checkup which was affordable but I cannot afford the care she'll need being blind nor the time.”  Tinkerbell has been with her current owner for about two months and they have reached out to multiple pet sites and friends in hopes of finding a new home for her. Tinkerbell is an indoor dog with run of the house. She is housebroken and leash-trained. She is described as outgoing and good with men, women and kids. Tinkerbell currently lives with two cats and her owner says she “has never hurt them but does chase after them.” She is extremely tolerant with kids. Her owner told us, “My son crawls on her all the time. She doesn’t even budge, just lets it happen.” Tinkerbell has never been socialized with other dogs. She can be possessive of toys and treats. Her owner says she will growl if you try to take it away. She says, “I'm currently working with her on commands. She is a great dog with a lot of energy.”

Ernie

Vet Info: Ernie is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative per his rescue.  He weighs about 35 pounds.

Owner Info: Ernie is an adorable and very sweet Red Heeler mix currently with a smaller sized rescue in a rural area.  They are hoping to find an experienced foster for Ernie!  Ernie has a sad story prior to his rescue.  Not long ago, he was found chained up and left to die.  Luckily, he was saved, and he is doing very well!  Ernie is almost completely blind, but seems to be able to track shadows and movement, and has even caught a gopher!  His rescue's vet said that nothing can be done to improve his vision, but that otherwise, he is in good health. Ernie is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard.  He is not yet housebroken, but is leash trained.  Ernie is a smart boy, and has already learned "sit" and "down!"  He seems to adapt well to new situations, and has already negotiated the boundaries of his large kennel.  He's also learned to rely upon their trainer to keep him safe. Ernie is described as outgoing, and is good with men and women, and male and female dogs.  He can be possessive of treats, toys, or food, but has never bitten or snapped.

Ernie is a sweet, trusting, friendly, and playful little guy, but almost completely blind. (He can make out large, contrasting shapes, and detect movement.) But he has excellent hearing and a great nose. He is small enough to carry, if need be, and quite agreeable to being lifted. He is friendly to all the dogs who greet him through his kennel mesh. Ernie was chained up and abandoned, and that's about all we know of his past. Our vet says there is nothing to be done for his vision, but he is otherwise in good shape for an older guy. Ernie needs a small home, so he can figure out where everything is, a safe little corner to call his own, and someone to love and care for him.

Talley - Staying With owner

Owner Info:  Talley is a beautiful mix whose owners are moving due to divorce.  She is unable to move with either the husband or the wife.  They are very much hoping for rescue or a new home for sweet Talley by August 2. Talley is completely blind and had both eyes removed in the last couple of years "after crises with glaucoma and attempts at drops and laser surgery."  She has fatty lumps and could use a dental cleaning, but other than that, her owners write she is healthy.  Talley is an indoor dog with run of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained.  Talley is described as outgoing, and is good with people of all ages, male and female dogs, and cats.  She is not possessive of toys, treats, or food. Talley's owners tell us she's a friendly girl who likes to meet other dogs!  "She is vocal from the window (now only based on sound). She used to pull on leads and bark at other dogs on walks but only half the time. Now that she is blind, she still barks some of the time but enjoys meeting other animals, especially dogs, such as at the vet."  Talley adapts well to new situations and is doing very well managing her blindness.  "She sniffs and maps her terrain. While we have been moving stuff around daily to paint and re carpet the house for sale, she navigated each new obstacle course very well."  Her owners write that she doesn't like taking pills (she needs peanut butter!) or having her nails clipped. Talley's owners want us to know she's a very sweet girl!     "She loves daily short walks. She gets her enjoyment from sniffing new smells outside. Very sweet dog, will greet you at the door and lay near you in the house. Fine with hose baths. Will bark if people drive into driveway or approach the door but will be quiet and happily welcoming when they enter."

Lucky - Staying With Owner

Vet Info:  Lucky has not been vetted.  She weighs about 35 pounds.

Owner Info:  A good samaritan found a small white dog walking in circles on a busy street.  She stopped and brought the dog home, and named her Lucky.  She's not able to keep Lucky, and is very much hoping for rescue for this very sweet girl. Lucky is an indoor dog with run of the house, she is housebroken (she cries to go out to potty) but not leash trained.  Her caregiver tells us that she hears OK, but does bump into things, and seems completely blind.  When she was found, she had little hair on her back half.  Her caregiver has given her three baths already and she's been a very good girl!  She sometimes tries to get out of the tub, but she has never shown any aggression at all.  Lucky is good with people of all ages, and other dogs and cats, and currently lives with two dogs and two cats.  She hasn't shown any interest in playing with either the dogs or the cats and just leaves them alone.  Lucky is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never bitten or snapped.  

Baby - Adopted

Vet Info: Babys spay has been confirmed, she is up to date on vaccines per owner, but this has not yet been confirmed.  She has not had a heartworm test.  Baby weighs about 10 pounds.  

Owner Info: Baby is a beautiful at least 12-year-old girl whose owner is no longer able to care for her.  Baby will urinate or poop in the house if she's not let out regularly, and her owner tells us that Baby needs extra attention and care that she is not able to provide.  She is unable to afford more vet care or testing, and Baby spends most of her time in a crate.  Her owner knows this is not quality of life for her and is hoping to find Baby a new loving home.  They are leaving at the end of July for two weeks, and have no one to care for Baby.  If they are unable to find rescue or a new home for Baby before then, she will be humanely euthanized. Baby's owners tell us she's "the PERFECT lap dog, but she just needs extra attention and care", which she is not getting now.  Baby is an indoor dog who is crated, she is housebroken and leash trained.  She is good with people of all ages.  Baby's owner didn't know how to answer about how she is with other dogs, but she gave us more details about the other dogs Baby has lived with - Baby had a male dachshund companion who died at 14 in September of last year, and she adored him.  They got along very well!  But the younger female lab in the home does not like Baby, and they are kept separated.  Baby is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never bitten or snapped.  Baby's owner tells us that Baby's eyesight has gotten worse over time, and she believes that Baby is now completely blind or only sees shadows.  "...she bumps into things constantly while trying to walk around the house".  She says that Baby can hear, but probably not as well as she used to because she's older.  Baby sleeps much of the day, and besides eating and pottying, doesn't do much else.  Baby's owner is hoping for a home for Baby where she can be someone's lap dog.  Baby loves to be held!  "she's a very sweet and calm dog, she just needs a lot of care."
