Alaska

Name: Alaska
Age: About 1.5 years
Breed: Possibly Husky or Samoyed Mix
Sex: Female (altered)
Location: Dallas, TX area

Vet Info: Alaska is confirmed spayed. She is current with vaccinations and has had a negative heartworm test, per her owner, but this has not been confirmed. Alaska had one eye removed when she was a puppy and only sees shadows with the other eye. She is also deaf. Alaska weighs about 45 pounds.

Owner Info: Alaska is a beautiful young girl with a sad story.  She was found on a busy highway. Her caregiver and her mother took her in and fell in love with her but they have a new landlord who does not want dogs and they have a short time (about 60 days) to find a new home for Alaska.

Alaska is an indoor dog with run of the house.  She is housebroken and leash trained.  She is good with men, women, and children, and both male and female dogs, as well as cats. Alaska will sometimes growl at other dogs if they bump into her, because she can't see or hear them. However, she has never bitten or snapped at anyone. Her owner writes, "when she smells someone new, she will bark until she meets you." Alaska has not had training but she is a smart girl. Her owner told us, "we tap her under the chin and she knows that means ok or go."

Alaska was boarded at the vet's office for a little while but this became difficult because Alaska became stressed with all the other dogs in close quarters with her. The vet said in her opinion, Alaska should probably go to a home where she would be the only dog. Her owner is very upset about giving her up and says she is very healthy otherwise and well behaved. She just wants to love and be loved.

Blue (and his friend Lucky) - Staying With Family Member

 BLUE

LUCKY

Name: Blue
Age: Adult (middle aged)
Breed: Blue Heeler, but may have something else mixed in
Sex: Male (altered per contact, not verified)
Location: Highland County, OH (south central Ohio)

Vet Info: Blue is neutered per his contact, but this has not been confirmed.  Blue's contact is not sure if Blue is up to date with vaccines or has had a recent heartworm test.  Blue weighs about 85 pounds.

Owner Info: Blue's owner just passed away, and his spouse is 85 years old and is unable to care for Blue.  There is another dog, a beagle, also living there.  Our contact, the spouse's son, is only able to stay until Saturday, so Blue and the beagle need a place to go by then. They have thus far been unable to find anybody else willing to take Blue or the beagle (also a neutered male per our contact, not blind but his eyes "tear a lot", also "middle aged").

They are outdoor dogs in a fenced gravel yard, and sometimes kept chained to protect a garage.

Both dogs are good with both men and women, and male dogs (they live with each other).  Our contact has never seen them around female dogs or cats.

Please note we have more information on Blue because he filled out the form on Blue:

Blue is not housebroken, but is leash trained.  He is not possessive of toys, treats or food, and our contact writes that Blue has never shown any aggression towards anyone in the week he's been there.  "not in the week I have been around him but he does bark at noises and other dogs outside the fenced in yard. various people have cared for him in the past week and he has shown no aggression to anyone."   He also tells us that today, Blue rolled over for a belly rub!

Blue is overweight so cannot yet go on longer walks as he tires easily, but he enjoyed his short walk with our contact's niece.  He also wrote, "when she let him run around the yard he seemed to enjoy it."

Blue appears completely blind.  Our contact writes, "the owner told me 4 months ago that he ate some kind of berries in the yard and it caused him to go blind. the eyes look good except they are clouded over.... he seems to be alert and curious."

He is desperately hoping we have a place for Blue!   "... I hate to see him in this situation and I am leaving in several days and don't know what else to do with him."

Update 3/27/16: The spouse's son, our contact, has been able to find someone who will feed Lucky and Blue this week, and will be heading back to Ohio this weekend.  Please continue to share for rescue only.  Lucky and Blue are still quite urgent!

Max - Adopted

Name: Max
Age: 6 years
Breed: Labrador / Doxie Mix
Sex: Male (altered per rescue)
Location: Philadelphia area

Vet Info: Max is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative per his current rescue.  He weighs about 27 pounds.  Max's rescue believes he is completely blind, "but may be able to see shadows during daylight."  Max came to them thin, and is slowly gaining weight.

Owner Info: Max is a very handsome fellow who was saved from the Philadelphia SPCA by a local small breed rescue.  They write that he is much more likely a labrador mix, and that they're having a hard time adopting him out because people looking to their rescue are looking for smaller dogs.  Max is crate and housetrained, but is anxious and is tearing things in his current foster home.  His current foster home also has little to no experience with blind dogs.  They are "looking for an assist" and are hoping we can place Max within BDRA.

Max is an indoor dog who is crated, he is housebroken and leash trained.  He is described as "nervous", and is good both with men and women.  His rescue also tells us, "Max is good with both female & male dogs from what we know.  He is also good with cats".   There is a cat in his current foster home.

Max can be possessive of treats, toys, or food, but he has never shown any aggression. They tell us that he's "always searching for food and tearing things...".   They feel that Max could adapt well with someone who is patient and has some experience.

Brail is good with people of all ages and other dogs.  He is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has never bitten or snapped.  His rescuer tells us that he adapts well to new surroundings, but may get startled.  "He has to get used to his surroundings & sometimes gets startled because it's new."

Brail appears to be in good health and is a very happy fellow!  "He is in great health, a happy dog, & a big mush... He runs around outside we also have sable like barns they stay in... As well as inside sometimes crated.... I would just love to see him find a one on one forever home, so he gets all the attention.... he is the sweetest baby."

Owner Info: Zoey (also known as Winter) is a beautiful girl with a very sad history.  Her rescuer writes that she was found almost dead on her doorstep, and that they believe Zoey was, "Abandoned, beaten, starved, left for dead, we believe she was used as a bait dog, sexually assaulted, her teeth are all broken..."  Her rescuer is very much hoping to find Zoey rescue or a home of her own!

Zoey is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house.  She is housebroken, but not leash trained.  She is good with women and children, and both male and female dogs, however Zoey is skittish due to her history, and her rescuer writes that she is kept separate from the other dogs.  "...she is kept separate because she had been through torture & is afraid. Sometimes she stays with a few of the dogs she gets along with but she is very skittish....She barks at some dogs because she was used as a bait dog. She especially does not like pit bulls, she is skittish of men. We believe she was also sexually abused."

Zoey is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never bitten or snapped.  She is somewhat anxious, and her rescuer gave us more details:  "She has anxiety because of what abuse she went through, she needs to learn how to trust, very scared."  Zoey is partially blind, and her vision is getting worse.  Her rescuer writes, "She is definitely partially blind and getting worse. Her eyes are small & closed quite a bit."

Zoey's rescuer would love for Zoey to have her second chance!  She writes, "This dogs life needs to be saved, we believe she needs more care than we have to offer. We nursed her back to eating & having her gain wait, but if someone does not truly have her vetted I don't know how much of a chance she will have We just don't get any funding to do this. We take care if the dogs on our own & don't have the money to get the care she needs."

His owner says, "He is a very sweet and loving dog, he just needs a home that can afford proper training." His owners have been doing everything they can to help him but know that he needs more. They told us that, "We got him from a feed store where he was dropped off as a stray and 2 guys were trying to get him from store owner to use as a bait dog and we took him to save him from that fate." His owners are having a hard time keeping him where they are at and their landlord soon may not allow him there at all. Scooby has been placed on some rescue sites but so far no one has stepped up. Could you give this sweet guy a place to go?

Scooby is an indoor dog with the run of the house. He is not housebroken or leash-trained. He is very outgoing and playful, good with men, women, kids, dogs and cats. He currently lives with a cat and other dogs (both big and small) and does great with them! He isn't possessive over food, treats or toys. He hasn't shown aggression toward anyone or anything. His owners also say that he adapts really well to new situations.

In a new house they usually walk around the house a few times to familiarize themselves with the layout."
