Charlie - Staying With Owner

Name: Charlie

Vet Info: Charlie is confirmed neutered.  He is not up to date on vaccines and has not had a heartworm test.  Charlie weighs 10 pounds.  

Owner Info: DOB March 2007. Charlie is an adorable fellow whose owner's living situation and finances are changing drastically and beyond her control.  She feels Charlie doesn't have quality of life with her anymore as he is spending too much time alone, and it isn't good for him.

Charlie was rescued from death row, and had a difficult life before his current owner adopted him.  He has been with his current owner since March, 2014.

Charlie is completely blind, and his owner took him to a specialist regarding his eyesight.  "We took Charlie to a specialist who said the connection between his brain and eyes was severed, so although it 'looks' like he can see, Charlie is completely blind".  Charlie is also deaf.

Charlie is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is not housebroken or leash trained. "Due to Charlies handicaps, he wears a diaper indoors. Also due to his handicaps, he doesn't do well on a leash, so he has his own stroller."

Charlie is good with men and women, but his owner tells us he'd prefer a home without children.  Charlie currently lives with three other dogs and two cats.  He is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, but will try to bite other dogs if he feels threatened.  "He's tried to bite when he feels threatened, but not being able to see, he's never made contact. All of his teeth are wore down from being locked in a crate his whole life and trying to chew his way out.... Also, he gets 'grumpy' if he has to poop."

Charlie's owner writes that he has difficulty adapting to new situations, but "given 'time' to be reassured new people can be trusted, and providing his surroundings don't change (so he doesn't smash into everything)' he does fine."

Charlie's owner loves him very much and only wants what is best for Charlie!  "Apart from his handicaps, and need of a diaper when in doors, he's an absolute sweetheart, so full of love and gratitude for being alive!"

Lucky - URGENT!

 

Name: Lucky

Age: 1 year        

Breed: Boxer / Pointer Mix

Sex: Female (altered, per owner)

Location: Atlanta, GA area

Vet Info: Lucky weighs about 30 - 40 pounds. Lucky has had vaccines and been spayed, as per owner (not confirmed by vet).

Owner Info: DOB 2/6/15. Lucky is a beautiful girl who is trying to live up to her name!  Her owner's dog had puppies, and she had given Lucky to a neighbor who let her run loose in the neighborhood, so she took Lucky back a couple of weeks ago to find her a better home.  She posted Lucky on Craigslist for three months, and her owner tells us that during that time, Lucky suddenly went blind.  Her owner is disabled and cannot work.  She cannot afford the vet care Lucky needs, and tells us she doesn't have the means to keep her and teach her.  She writes that Lucky "just cries and I don't know how to help her".  She is desperately hoping we will have a place for Lucky. 

Lucky is an indoor dog with run of the house, she is not housebroken (her owner writes that since her blindness, she is having potty issues in the house) or leash trained.  Lucky is described as "outgoing", and is good with men, women, male and female dogs, and cats.  She currently lives with three other dogs and three cats.  She has never been around children.  

Lucky is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has never shown aggression.  

Lucky suddenly went blind during the time her owner had her posted on Craigslist, and she gave us more details about Lucky's blindness and health: "Her eyes look fine but she runs into the walls and doors. She hugs my legs when she walks or she follows the other dogs. Not sure if she is following by sent or not. Lucly legs are all sprawled out unable to keep control on my wood floors. She also paces the house and does circles...Her overall health is great. Great weight. Good coat. But diarrhea."  She also writes that Lucky "used to be so happy before blindness".  

Lucky's owner wants us to know Lucky is a very lovable and smart girl who just needs patience and love!  "She is very loveable. She loves to get her head stuck in the cat box, thought you might need to know that. Thank you for your help."

Update 5/8/2016: We've heard from Lucky's owner and she is still in need of a new home!  Her owner writes that she's doing very well, and has had vaccines and been spayed.  She also sent two new photos.  Lucky is a beautiful girl!  

Mick - Staying With Owner

Name: Mick

Age: Estimated 12 years

Breed: Westie / Pomeranian

Sex: Male (altered)

Location: Greene County, TN

Vet Info: Mick is confirmed neutered and heartworm negative.  He received a one year rabies vaccine on 2/11/16.  Mick weighs about 20 - 25 pounds.

Owner Info: Mick is an adorable little fellow who was pulled from a high kill shelter to save his life.  He was very underweight/emaciated when his foster picked him up.  She owns a boarding/day care/grooming facility, and she is very worried Mick needs more than she is able to give.  She is very much hoping for a place within BDRA for sweet Mick so that he can have the home he deserves!   

Mick is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house and he is leash trained.  His good samaritan told us that he's mostly housebroken, "He seems to be housebroken when he is loose in the building (Boarding/Daycare) But has accidents overnight when he's confined to his suite/kennel."  She writes that Mick does seem to urinate a lot.  

Mick is a very sweet boy, and is good with both men and women, male and female dogs, and cats.

Mick has never bitten or snapped, but his good samaritan writes that he did growl at another dog when he had a cow hoof in his possession, but that it never escalated.  Mick also has no front teeth. 

Mick may be able to see shadows or dense objects.  His good samaritan writes, "I can see a large cataract in one eye and the other eye doesn't seem as bad. He holds his head up high and paces almost constantly."   

Mick's owner wants us to know she is very much hoping we will have a place for Mick and tells us he's an angel!  Very loving, super sweet, and loves to be petted!  "I hope his sweet little face catches him a wonderful foster soon.... I was going to bake some dog biscuits to fundraise for his bloodwork expense...Thank you for your help with my little buddy Mick. I don't know what the world would do without rescues such as yours."

Update 2/29/16: Mick sure making a lot of progress and has come a long way already!  His good samaritan writes that his pacing has decreased by about 40%, and he hasn't had any accidents inside.  He'll even tell you when he has to go out!   Mick is having a dental tomorrow and we'll update as soon as possible.  She also thanks everybody very much for their input.  

She tells us, "Mick is improving daily! He will rest on his own now. He still paces but not as long as he used to. He will come when called, and he's become my little shadow. I got my first "tail wag" last night!

His appetite is great. He eats 4-6 times throughout the day. He was so emaciated that I didn't want to feed to large a meal at one time. Most of the dogs I receive for fostering are very malnourished. 

Jack - Outcome Unknown

Name: Jack

Age: Estimated 10 - 12 years

Breed: Black Lab and Cocker Spaniel Mix

Sex: Male (altered)

Location: Venice, CA

Vet Info: Jack is confirmed neutered but is overdue for vaccines.  His owner told us he'll be getting Jack's vaccines updated, and will let us know when he has.  Jack has not had a recent heartworm test.  Jack's owner writes that Jack is completely blind.  He is not sure of the cause, but he tells us that Jack has always seemed to have visual issues, and now his owner believes Jack can't even see shadows.  Other than his blindness, his owner tells us Jack is in great health.  Jack weighs about 40 pounds.

Owner Info: Jack is a very handsome lab and cocker spaniel mix who has gone blind within the past 6 - 12 months.  His owner travels weekly for work and can no longer provide Jack with the time, attention, and stable environment that he now needs.  His owner writes that Jack lays in his room all day "and really needs someone who can keep him active and socialized".  He has reached out to several rescues, but received no response.

Jack is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is leash trained and housebroken, although his owner writes that he gets confused now that he is blind and may have an occasional accident.  Jack is described as outgoing, and is good with people of all ages and smaller male and female dogs.  He is not possessive of toys, treats, or food.  

When his owner first got Jack, Jack would snap with people touching his head, and he gave us more details:  "When I initially got him he had trust issues with people touching his head I approached and would give warning nips. He does not like to be kenneled, muzzled, or taken to the vet. In those cases he will snap out. He does not generally get along with large dogs....He does not do well in situations when another dog tried to dominate him."  

Jack's owner feels he adapts well to new situations, and writes, "Because of my increasing travel schedule over the past few years I have had to rely on several different people to watch Jack. He is accustomed to being introduced to new environments though now needs something stable."

Jack's owner wants us to know what a sweet and special boy he is!  "Jack is a very sweet animal who just wants to be loved."

Tubu - Adopted

Name: Tubu

Age: Estimated 8 years

Breed: Pekingese

Sex: Male (altered)

Location: Philadelphia, PA area

Vet Info: Tubu is confirmed neutered.  He is up to date on vaccines and is next due for the rabies vaccine in June, 2018, and the distemper parvo vaccine at the end of March, 2016.  He has not had a recent heartworm test.  Tubu has "just recently" been diagnosed with SARDS and is completely blind.  His owner writes that he has Lyme, too, but when he flares up, they put him on meds and he is fine.  They also tell us that he gets carsick.  Tubu weighs about 19 pounds.

Owner Info: DOB 5/2007. Tubu is an adorable fellow was saved from a neighbor who called him names and allowed him to run in the street.  He has been with his current owners for three years.  Tubu has recently been diagnosed with SARDS, and his owners feel he needs more attention than they can give, and that they are not able to meet his needs.  They have tried other rescues, and have told us we're the first rescue who did not berate them for trying to rehome Tubu.  His owner writes, "I am distraught about this and want what's best for Tubu ! He is so special and kind and gentle and loving - he is adjusting for sure but we are never home to help him!"

Tubu is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained, however his owner writes that since he has become blind, he has taken a few steps back in his housebreaking and is urinating in the house.  Tubu is described as "outgoing", and is good with people of all ages, and female dogs.  His owner told us "he just gets territorial" around male dogs, and gave us more information:  "To answer your question about being territorial, I mean when he senses a male dog he growls and keeps dogs at a distance, but female dogs he all too friendly with ! He usually wins the battle of listen this is my home and these people in it I love ! He has never had to snap nor has he bit any dogs just growls ! He loves and plays with our neighbors BIG HUGE lab he is male so there is no rhyme or reason for his selection process ! He loves other dogs and when we have been away we have placed him in the care of the pet hotel which is a part of our vet and they just love him ! We usually pay extra so he has group play and he does well ! We have not sent him there since Srds however, so not sure if he has gotten more temperamental because of the lack of sight !"  Tubu is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never bitten or snapped.

Tubu's owners write that he is struggling with being blind, "but doing okay - I think he misses chasing rabbits and having freedom to run."

Tubu's owners want us to know he is a very special boy!  "He is amazing and loving and someone who has time to look after him will enjoy his company!".  They are hopeful a new home or rescue will be found as soon as possible, because by the summer, they will be unable to keep him.  

Update 3/14/16: We've heard from Tubu's owner and he is becoming urgent!  With four children and all of their activities, they are having difficulty paying for Tubu and meeting his needs.  She writes, "Please keep searching!" 

Luna

Name: Luna

Age: 5 years

Sex: Female (altered)

Breed: Pit Bull Terrier

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Vet Info: Luna is blind in one eye. Her caregiver writes, she was blind in one eye when she was pulled from the shelter as a puppy and it doesn't seem to affect her at all. She had a three-year babies vaccine on 11/17/2014. She had a distemper vaccine in November, 2015. She has not had a recent heartworm test. Luna weighs 55 lbs.

Owner Info: Luna is a beautiful pit bull terrier who was being fostered for another rescue but that rescue no longer exists. Now after several years, Luna and her current foster mom's other dog no longer get along. They got into a fight and can no longer be together. Due to a recent divorce and job circumstances, Luna is now crated most of the day. Her current foster mom wants to find her a better home where she doesn't have to be crated and can get the attention she deserves. Luna is listed on several pet adoption sites and has been posted on Facebook. Her foster mom is hoping that more exposure will help find Luna a loving home.

Luna is house-broken and leash-trained. She is a smart girl who knows sit, paw, and crate. Luna is outgoing and good with men, women, and children, as well as cats. She has never shown aggression to a human. She gets along with other dogs but if another dog snaps at her or tries to push her, she reacts and does not back down. There have been a couple of incidents in the house, all started by another dog. Luna's foster mom also wants us to know Luna is a great dog and she fees it is unfair to her to keep her confined to the crate. She wants her to be free and get the love and attention she deserves.
