lepto in 2013, and for her rabies vaccine in 2014. Recent parasite and heartworm
testing were negative. Ginger is on heartworm preventative. She takes Soloxine for
hypothyroidism and her vet's office notes that she is a very well cared for dog.
Owner Info: Ginger's owner is moving out of the country. She originally got her from the Orange County,
CA pound. Ginger is microchipped, she is an indoor dog with the run of the house, she is
housebroken and leash trained. She know lots of commands such as Sit, Stay, Up tall
(stand on hind legs), Go lay down on your bed, Excuse me, Upstairs, Downstairs, Let's go
for a ride in the car, Let's go for a walk and Dinner. She did a beginners training class and won
1st place. Ginger is an outgoing girl, she is good with women and teenagers, dogs and cats.
She used to be very protective of her food and family, and likes to chase bikes. She barks
when new people come in the house, but never goes after them. Ginger adapts well to new
situations, she's been camping and to a cabin on vacation since she's been blind and did
well. She has seen an ophthamologist and has total blindness from SARDS occuring July
2011, blindness onset within two months. Ginger has hypothyroidism, she takes thyroid
tablets 2x a day. Showing possible signs of Cushing's Syndrome but has not been tested.
She loves people and is a very faithful companion. Ginger looks forwardto her baths, walks,
and rides in the car. She navigates stairs without a problem, anduses a doggy door to let herself
out/in when she needs to go. She loves to be pet everywhere, especially under her chin.
Ginger enjoys her trips to the vet and is a favorite there amongst staff. She is Invisible Fence
Trained. She doesn't get discouraged when she can't find her way, she'll just keep trying,
find her way back to a place she knows and go from there. Ginger has lived with other cats
and dogs in the past, but hasn't been introduced to any since her blindness. During the time she
was losing her vision, she did snap at people who approached her and patted her head.
She did not know they were there, this behavior is one of the reasons we took her to be
examined. She did a similar thing to the vet - after being on the floor examining her
without incident, as he rose from the floor to stand, she did try to get him too, however her
aim is not too good. Ginger would not like to be left home alone, she follows her owner
room to room. She will spend time sunning herself anduse her doggy door, but still checks in
often to be sure she knows where she is.
