Lilly - In Doberman Rescue Foster Care, Illinois

Name: Lilly
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Doberman/Choc Lab Mix
Age: 11 months
Location: Rome, GA

Vet/Medical Info: Lilly received all of her vaccinations in October 2010, they are good until 10/22/11. That includes the rabies. She is spayed but not tested for heartworm as she was only 11 months old. This is not what the owner said and the office said maybe the dog is on HW medication by the owner. The dog is very healthy and they had no info about her eyesight.

Owner Info: DOB 6/15/2010. Lilly was rescued from animal control when she was four months old,  she is now a large dog, weighing about 75 pounds. When she is afraid, she just lays down and won't move. Her owner is an older lady with serious back problems and doesn't have anyone to help her with Lilly so everyday life and outings in the car, to the vet and any new situation are very hard as Lilly is terrified. Lilly is still growing so this problem will get worse. She is on Petfinder and Craigslist but there has been no serious interest so far. She takes time to adjust to any new surroundings until she feels safe. In daylight Lilly has trouble with depth perception and objects that are far away. In dim light she has to wait for her eyes to adjust, such as going outside at night. She will stop at the open door. With very low light she cannot see at all. Her vision seems to be getting worse as she gets older. Other than her eyes, she is in excellent health. Lilly loves other dogs and will follow another dog without any problems, having a doggie friend would help her. Her owner tried having another dog but two big dogs was just too much work for her. Lilly in an indoor dog with the run of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained. She knows commands such as Sit Down, Heel, Walk, Come and Go pee pee. She is better with women than men and loves children, dogs, cats and other small animals.  Her owner can assist with transport to Spring City.

Shaya - Adopted

Name: Shaya
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: GSD Mix
Age: 5 years
Location: East Meadow, NY

Vet/Medical Info: Shaya is spayed and UTD with vaccinations. Due for next rabies February 2013. Shaya just had a heartworm test on May 3rd, and she is heartworm negative. Shaya is a healthy girl, no other relevant medical info noted.

Owner Info: Shaya's owner has to move to a place that doesn't allow pets. Shaya was rescued from a shelter, formerly abused (used for bait as a puppy) but has been well rehabilitated. Shaya is good with most dogs but not alpha felames, she can be a little bit possessive of toys and bones, will sometimes growl if another dog approaches her when she has a bone. She is not good with cats as likes to give chase. She adjusts reasonably well to new situations and surroundings although she can be nervous. She has one eye so her visual impairment is limited. Shaya is in very good health and she loves long walks and car rides.

Libby - In BDRA Foster Care

Name: Libby
Sex: Female (not altered)
Breed: Aussie/Collie Mix
Age: 5 months
Location: Clover, SC

Vet/Medical Info: Not spayed. Came in as a stray, they got her from someone who was getting rid of her, so she took Libby in. Libby has had first vaccines (bordatella, distemper, lepto), but does need boosters. She had rabies vaccine 5/2/11, so is due 5/2/12. They have no record of HW testing. Fecal showed some parasites, Libby was dewormed with Strongid. Libby has been started on HeartGard Plus and is on Frontline. They couldn't tell us anything about Libby's blindness. They had no other medical information.

Owner Info: Libby was rescued from an advertisement in the paper for a free dog, deaf and partially blind (one eye). Her current owner has crossposted her information and asked other rescues for help. She is deaf so takes visual leads from other dogs and can see out of one eye. One eye is cloudy and the other seems to have okay vision but it has small white lines through it. She is a beautiful pup.

Mitzy - Staying With Owner

Name: Mitzy
Sex: Female (altered)

Breed: Terrier Mix

Age: 8 years
Location: Utica, NY

Vet/Medical Info: Mitzy had her first lepto vaccine, distemper, bordatella and lyme vaccines 4/20/2011. She was tested for heartworm (negative) and stool sample was also negative.  She is up to date on rabies until 12/10/2013. She is spayed, 8 years old, terrier mix, also has chronic ear problems (otitis externa). She was last seen in February 2010 for that.

Owner Info: Mitzy does not feel comfortable around small children. When she was rescued (she was found wandering the streets when 6-8 weeks old) her owner didn't have children, now that they do, she gets aggressive when children are active or loud. She has on three occassions charged/chased/snapped at children when they were running and playing. They try to remove her from the situation but when put her in her crate or left in a room, she gets very upset. If she was in a situation that was calm she would be fine. She is like a cat and likes to sit on your lap and be petted. Mitzy was born with a congenital eye defect most likely caused by a virus her mother had while pregnant. If you throw a ball to her, she will not see it and it will hit her. If she is outside on a bright day she can track a bird in the sky. It seems like she has some vision, but up close she really is limited. She is a little overweight. Mitzy is an indoor dog with the run of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained, she knows sit, lay down and stay. She is good with people, teenagers, other dogs and cats. Mitzy's owner loves her to bits and she used to be a perfect fit for her family. She would be a great dog for someone who is ill, she is very loving and devoted to her owners and has brought them much joy. The instances where she charges children have happened repeatedly and her owner is afraid she will bite someone. They don't want to put Mitzy in a position where she will fail.

Samson - Staying With Owners

Eddie - Adopted

Name: Eddie
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Jack Russell Terrier Mix
Age: Approx 11 years
Location: Gap, PA

Vet/Medical Info: Neutered, UTD on all shots except for Bordatella as of 12/1/2010. Due for next rabies shot 10/22/2012. No record of HW test going back to 2007. He is not on any medications.

Owner Info: Eddie's current owner adopted him when Eddie's Mom became unable to care for him due to terminal cancer. She agreed to take Eddie in so that he could continue to visit his sick Mom in the nursing home, she has since passed. His owner has changed jobs and now Eddie is alone for long periods of time, he deserves more than she can provide for him. Eddie adjusted well when he moved into her home, even though he has no eyes. He was enucleated about 4 years ago due to chronic eye infections following an injury sustained while playing with another dog, he has been sightless for 4 years and has adapted very well.  Eddie is good with adults and small children but nervous around other animals and can become aggressive towards them. Eddie is in good health, he has a scar from near fatal attack on him from another dog (he was not the aggressor). Eddie is a great dog and would do well in a home where he is with someone during the day so he can go out to the potty more frequently. He is a good tempered, loving dog.
