Lucy - In Memory

Name: Lucy
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Blue Heeler
Age: 5 years
Location: Carriere, MS

Vet/Medical Info: Lucy is a wonderful dog. She is on Phenobarbital and Potassium Bromide for seizures. On 1/25/2011 she was given a one year rabies vaccination as well as bordatella, DA2PLCPV and a heartworm test which was negative. She also had a fecal float done and had a thorough annual wellness examination. On 2/9/2011 she presented with staph pyoderma and was given cyphalexin and derma vet ointment. On 4/25/2011 she was given heartguard 1 year tablets. On 9/16 she presented with discospondylitis and was given a metacam injection and previcox medication. She is currently on phenobarbital, potassium bromide and previcox for her arthritis at a cost of $120 per month.

Owner Info: Lucy is an incredible dog, very sweet. She's almost completely blind, she has epilepsy and she has arthritis in her back as well. The seizures are very well controlled on the medication, she'd only have a seizure if she were put under a large amount of stress or frightened badly, an example being another dog jumping on her and snarling. Because of the medicines she takes that keep her going, we're trying to find her a new loving home because we can't afford $120 per month in doggie pills. We love her very, very much. We want to know she'll be somewhere where she'll be happy.

Hope - Adopted

Name: Hope
Sex: Female (not altered)
Breed: Mixed Breed
Age: 2-3 years
Location: Fort Gibson, OK

Vet/Medical Info: We have been unable to verify any medical information, Hope’s owner took her to two vets to get her eyes checked, they were courtesy visits so would not have been recorded.

Owner Info: Hope's owner adopted her to keep her from being euthanized at a high kill shelter, with full intentions of finding her a new home afterwards. That was four months ago. Hope is blind and deaf (she can hear high pitches and loud noises). The only time she shows aggression with other dogs is if they are in or near her fence. Never shown aggression towards people. She is a very loving dog, can be hyper at times. Hope is an outdoor dog with a fenced in yard, she is housebroken and leash trained. She has never had anyone work with her before so she doesn't know any commands. She is an outgoing girl, good with people and older children, other dogs and cats.

Elvis - Staying With Owner

Name: Elvis
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Yellow Labrador
Age: 7 ½ years
Location: Annapolis, MD

Vet/Medical Info: Elvis is in good health. His next round of vaccinations are due 7/25/12, rabies is not due until 10/2/14. HW was negative. He is on thyroid meds and is neutered.

Owner Info: DOB March 18 2004. Elvis got in a dominance fight with his owners wife’s 15 year old dog. The other dogs leg was broken severely and the vet felt it was likely he would not survive surgery because of his age and because the dog was struggling to get around and cope with everyday life before the fight. The owners opted to have the dog put down. The wife said Elvis has to go, he is currently living at his owners office. Elvis has nowhere to go and the only other option is to put him down. Elvis's aggression was dominance but he was not the dominant male, the other dog, a 16 year old American Eskimo was the dominant male of the house even though he was one third Elvis’s size. Elvis liked Dakota and they always got on well. Elvis has cataracts and seems to have had vision problems from when he was a puppy. He always got scared and started shaking when around other dogs, other than the American Eskimo he lived with. His owner often placed a soft muzzle on him when around other dogs. Elvis has never gone after any dogs, just defends his space as he is very nervous when other dogs come close. Elvis is an inside dog confined to one area of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained. Elvis is a smart boy, he has had formal obedience training and knows commands such as come, sit, down, stay, fetch, mark, stop and thank you. He loves to swim, play catch and fetch. He knows all of his commands and does them strongly. He is good with people of all ages and good with cats. This is the last hope for Elvis, he is a good boy – just doesn’t like to be around other dogs. He would be great as an only dog, with a family that would play with him and love him.

Willie - Adopted

Name: Willie
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Cocker Spaniel
Age: 13 years
Location: Raymond, IL

Vet/Medical Info: Willie has not been to see a vet so we have been unable to verify his medical information.

Owner Info: Willie has been in his current home since the end of October. His current owner took him and another furry friend in when their previous owner was going to dump them. She is now over her limit and the city has told her she needs to get rid of two dogs by Friday 30 December. Willie hasn’t been to see a vet recently so is not UTD with vaccinations, or HW tested. Willie is blind from cataracts. Willie is a very sweet boy, he is neutered, good with other dogs, not quite housebroken. He is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house, he is leash trained. Willy will warm up to kids quicker than adults. If his owner has idea he is going to be able to go somewhere, she MAY be able to keep him until Sunday. She does not want to take him to shelter, says he'll be PTS.

Mallory - In Memory

Name: Mallory (Mallie)
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Blue Heeler/Australian Cattle Herder
Age: 3 years
Location: Baldwyn, MS

Vet/Medical Info: Vet has never administered any vaccinations to the dog. The dog received all vaccinations from the spca at the time of adoption. That was nearly 3 years ago. They also spayed the dog. She was never tested for heartworm. The rabies was for 3 years and will be due this coming spring. The owner told the vet he would pay for the needed vaccinations.

Owner Info: Mallory went blind only a couple of weeks ago, the vet suspects SARDS. All her blood work came back normal. "Mallie" is like a member of her owners family as they rescued her from a shelter about 2 years ago. However, living in the open country they are concerned for her safety and her ability to go between her outdoor sleeping and eating areas. Bringing her inside is not an option for the family in a small house (with a pug indoors already). Mallie is an outgoing girl, good with people and children of all ages and good with other dogs. She is not house broken but is leash trained. Her family loves her, they just do not have the facilities or means to take proper care of her and don't want anything to happen to her because they fell short of properly taking care of a blind dog. If Mallory finds rescue her owners will get her UTD on vaccinations and HW tested.

Wee Willie - Adopted

Name: Wee Willie
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Double Dapple Dachshund
Age: 1 ½ years
Location: Barnesville, PA

Vet/Medical Info: Wee Willie is up to date with all vaccinations. He is due for them again including a heartworm test 6/30/12. When tested he was negative for heartworm. He also had a vaccination for kennel cough. They had no record as to whether he was neutered, the records just said male.

Owner Info: Wee Willie's current owner first saw him on Petfinder Classified Ads, FREE to good home, he was still intact, and she thought NO WAY and offered to take him, they gladly gave him to her. She got him UTD on his shots, heartworm tested and neutered. He is in great health. The vet thinks he was born blind. He's a HANDSOME double dapple doxie, only 1-1/2 yrs old, and a sweetie pie. He likes to play with other dogs, but she is afraid bigger dogs will hurt him so would rather see him be with someone who has smaller dogs so he can play with them. He does love to play with other dogs. He's gotten where he likes to be held on your lap, took quite a bit of time, but he likes that now. Wee Willie is listed on her Petfinder site, but if another rescue takes him, she'll give him to them with his records. Wee Willie adjusts very well to new surroundings, he echo locates and can get around the house better than his owner! He is an outside dog in a fenced in yard, he’s not housebroken or leashtrained. He is good with people of all ages and other dogs. Wee Willie is one of the sweetest dogs his owner has come across, she'd like to keep him, but her other dogs don't understand when he bumps into them and she doesn't want any harm to come to him.

Buddy - Staying With Family

Name: Buddy
Sex: Male (not altered)
Breed: Labrador
Age: 7 years
Location: Houston, TX

Vet/Medical Info: Buddy saw the vet 5/11/11 and at that time he received all of his vaccinations. The Rabies was a 1 year. He was also tested for heartworm and was negative. He is not due for anything till 5/12. He is not neutered and does have cataracts and arthritis.

Owner Info: DOB 9/27/2004. Buddy's dad passed away on November 30th 2011. Buddy is now in the care of his Dad’s 17 year old daughter, he belonged to both of them. Her aunt and uncle are taking her back to Switzerland with them so she cannot take continue to take care of Buddy. She loves him so much and can’t bear the thought of being without him. Buddy adjusts well to new situations, recently he did so well in the vets office she had trouble telling he was blind. She could only tell when she shone a light in his eyes and they did not react. The vet said he was probably around 80% blind because of his cataracts, his arthritis in his hips is easily controlled with a medication called Previcox. Buddy is an inside dog with the run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained. He is good with people and children of all ages and good with dogs, cats and other small animals. He is the sweetest dog his owner has ever known. She will be leaving January 4th and desperately wants to get him homed by then.
