Sassy - Adopted

Name: Sassy
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Chihuahua
Age: 4 years
Location: Statesville, NC

Vet/Medical Info: Sassy was spayed 2/17/12. Received a 3 year rabies 2/2/12, Parvo distemper 2/9/12 and was found to be heartworm negative on 2/3/12.

Owner Info: Sassy was pulled from a kill shelter in Alleghany county, NC, where she had been for over one month and was in danger of being put down. She was owner surrendered, the owner was a commercial breeder. She was pulled with the intent of finding a rescue group to take her. Sassy is currently in the care of a volunteer with several rescue groups and independently. She had a rescue lined up, but it fell through. Through these channels, Sassy has been posted. Sassy is currently an indoor dog with the run of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained. She is good with female dogs but sometimes charges at the male foster dog in the house, jealous of attention. She also bit her carers friend, who said it was her fault not Sassy's. Sassy was afraid at that time and her friend grabbed her and got bit, not a serious bite. Because of this we would not consider Sassy for children. Sassy has never tried to bite her carer, she just needs careful handling as she is afraid of strangers. She cannot tell if the partial blindness effects her behavior or if her previous treatment at a commercial breeder has caused her nervousness around strangers. The vet indicated the eye was stable, did not confirm cause of condition. Looks like a white opaque circle where the pupil is, changes size per pupil. Sassy is healthy, when she was pulled from the shelter, her carer had her vet work done for fecal test (neg), heartworm test (neg), parvo-distemper + vaccination, 3 yr rabies shot, spay surgery and teeth cleaning. Her teeth were very bad with brown plaque/tartar. She is on HW/flea/tick preventatives. She has paid for all this and is now out of pocket, anticipating that a rescue group could possibly reimburse or she could donate these services to the rescue. Sassy deserves to have a good life after being dumped by a commercial breeder who used her to churn out puppies at $350 a pop. The breeder did not socialize the dog, based on her behavior. Sassy has latched onto her carer and stays by her side. Other than being nervous with strangers, she displays typical Chihuahua traits. She is very loyal and loving, can be aggressive towards other dogs, but gets along with her pack. She warms up to new people over time.

Mia and Kobe (Bonded Pair) - Adopted

Name: Mia and Kobe
Sex: Female and Male (both altered)
Breed: Akita
Age: Mia 6 ½ yrs, Kobe 12 ¾ yrs
Location: Los Angeles, CA

Vet/Medical Info: Mia is spayed, UTD on vaccines. Due for bordatella 7/19/2012, da2pp 12/5/2012 and rabies 12/5/2014. Kobe is neutered, UTD on vaccines. Due for bordatella 7/19/2012, rabies 11/4/2012 and da2pp 12/23/2012. Neither dog has been HW tested. Both dogs have a long history with this vet and have been well taken care of. We will also be obtaining information about Mia from her Ophthalmologist but have not been able to connect with them yet.

Owner Info: Mia's DOB August 2005, Kobe's DOB May 1999. Mia's owners husband passed away and she has to move. She is moving to a place that does not allow dogs. They had agreed to allow dogs, but have changed their mind and her situation doesn't allow her to make another choice at this time. She has two Akitas, Mia almost 7, has cataracts and glaucoma and is mostly blind. She will continue to lose sight, surgery is not an option. The other dog is Kobe, an almost 13 year old Akita  - they are a bonded pair. Mia and Kobe are indoor dogs with the run of the house, they are housebroken and leash trained. Theyw ere trained as puppies by a private trainer. They know commands such as heel, sit, stay, wait, down, no. The are outgoing dogs, good with people of all ages and children. Mia and Kobe have been together since Mia was a puppy. He has been falling down a lot - his left hind leg gives out. They could not be in a cage-free situation and Kobe doesn't like other dogs. They both are used to being walked on leashes every day and stay with each other. They have had kids and adults around a lot. Since her husband got sick and died it's more quiet but they seem to have adjusted. She has tried Mia in a cage-free setting, it did not work. She doesn't think that they are good with other dogs. Mia developed uveitis when she was 6 months old. She had skin issues when she was younger. She develped cataracts and then glaucoma. She has been tested to see if she was a candidate for surgery, but she was not. She seems to be able to see large objects, but does not see well up close. Except for this condition she believes she is in good health. Kobe, the male is also in good health except for his back leg collapsing problem. Mia and Kobe have until the end of the month to find a new home. Their owner will be moving on 3/22 but she can get someone to stay in the house with the dogs until 3/31. Their owner is willing to pay for both dogs vet care and Mia's medication.

Snowflake - Adopted

Name: Snowflake
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Australian Shepherd
Age: 8 months - 1 year
Location: Lillian, Texas

Vet Info:  Snowflake was seen on 2/23/12.  She had a rabies vaccine and heartworm test was negative.  She was spayed on 2/28 and microchipped.  She is up to date on all shots and they are good for one year (through 2/23/13).  Her eye condition is congenital and she will be seeing an opthalmologist on 2/29 for an evaluation.

Owner Info:  She and her husband saw a small dog sitting outside their gate and who was being pursued by some larger dogs that looked like they would harm her. My husband immediately brought her inside our fenced-in area and she took off for our side field. The little Sheltie/Shepherd was running in big circles out in the field. We were able to get her to eventually come to us. It appeared she was blind. Both of her eyes are different sizes and shapes and she is bumping into things. Her hearing seems to be excellent. She is a darling little girl. Snowflake is an Australian Shepherd. She is a lovely little dog with a very sweet temperament. She is good with men, women, children, and other dogs.  Overall her heath is good and her coat is in good condition! She does excellent in her crate without having accidents and is very quiet. When she realizes someone is near she cocks her little head to the side and wiggles her little back end. She is a precious sweetheart full of love who will make someone a wonderful companion. She weighs 27 pounds and the Vet guessed her age to be between 8 months to one year old.  She is not yet leash trained.

Here is a video of Snowflake the day she arrived.

Molly - Adopted

Name: Molly
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Boxer Mix
Age: 1 year
Location: Signal Mountain, TN

Vet/Medical Info: Molly is spayed. On 3/5/2012 Molly had a one year rabies vaccine and DHPP.  We have been told Molly was taken to the vet 2/23 and she is HW negative, she had a fecal and is being treated for whip worms.

Owner Info: Molly is a blind boxer mix that was recently rescued on 2/22 from a kill shelter, she is about 25 lbs, 1 year old and is very timid and sweet. The other dog in the house is extremely rough with her so she cannot keep Molly. Molly shows no signs of aggression. She needs to try and place her with a rescue asap. She is a fawn color and has a docked tail. At present Molly in an indoor dog who is crated, she is housebroken and leash trained. She is good with adults and small children and good with other dogs. She has only had her a day, her main concern was getting her out of the conditions she was in and she did not anticipate her own dogs reaction to her. She is willing to help in anyway she can to get her into a rescue that can help find her a permanent home, transport help won't be a problem.

Poppy - In All Breed Rescue Foster Care

Name: Poppy
Sex: Male (not altered)
Breed: Chihuahua
Age: 5-8 years
Location: Glen Burnie, MD

Vet/Medical Info: No vet info available as background unknown.

Owner Info: This little guy was found in Tampa, Florida on 2/5 and his owner was unable to be located. He appeared to be covered with grime, they gave him a few baths but couldn't get the grime off, turned out they were bruises. A family member brought him to his current home on 2/17 because the vet in Florida recommended that he just be euthanized and they did not want that to happen. They need to find a home for him because they already have two furkids of their own and are unable to keep this new little guy. They have called him Poppy because his eyes pop out. Poppy is currently an indoor dog with the run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained, good with adults and good with other dogs. After just six days he knows his way around the house. They took him to the vet on 2/20. Dr. said he has "some" shadow vision in his right eye, none in his left due to "blood pooling" - possibly head trauma either from getting hit by a car or abuse. Other than his vision, the vet told them he appears in good health. They had them do a fecal test on which came back negative for worms/parasites despite being "on the run" for an unknown amount of time. This little guy is very, very sweet and a true lap dog. Whatever he has gone through over the last unknown amount of time has not affected his ability to love and cuddle. As much as they would like to make him a part of their family, they are just not able to do so at this time and are hoping someone has the time/love to give this little guy. They are still searching the internet websites to see if they can find his owner in Florida but need to research other options as well.

Nicholas - Adopted

Name: Nicholas
Sex: Male (not altered)
Breed: Australian Shepherd Mix
Age: 3-4 months
Location: Stone Mountain, GA

Vet/Medical Info: Nicholas is due 2/25/2012 for his next set of puppy vaccines.  If he does not come in, they have to start over. These vaccines include distemper booster, parvo and adenovirus and do not include lepto. They said he's also old enough for a rabies vaccine but has not had one yet. His eyes are "abnormal", the right one is worse than the left. The third eyelid covers most of his right eye. There is occasional swelling in the right eye. He is deaf.

Owner Info: DOB November 2011. Nicholas was found on the streets, someone dumped this tiny puppy on Christmas Day. The people that took him in live in a townhouse and Nicholas doesn't have room to run and play. He is an indoor dog with the run of the house, he is not yet housebroken but they are working on it. He is also going through formal obedience training. He is an outgoing boy and is good with other dogs. They also have a Shih Tzu, he plays a little rough with the her to get her attention. She has never been friendly with other dogs. When they go to Petsmart shopping he has done well around other dogs and they think he would love to have another dog to play with. Nicholas adapts very well to new situations, he will learn the layout of the room very quickly. He is still a puppy so he still nips and needs something in his mouth to chew on and help him with the teeth that are coming through. He is fully blind in the right eye and has partial sight in the left eye. He can see good in the day light but darkness his sight is limited. He is also deaf. He has a sweet personality, just wants to play and stay near their feet. He is all white with a brown and black patch around his left eye. We have been advised that Nicholas received his rabies shot and puppy vaccinations yesterday (2/23), waiting on vet to open to verify this.

Winston - Adopted

Winston is currently an indoor dog who is crated, he isn't housebroken but is leash trained. Winston is blind and deaf. He will go out to urinate and defecate, but does not hold it if he needs to go. He is a shy and nervous dog and does not like to be touched over his hips. They suspect he has pain from arthritis. He seems to be doing much better now, he has been with them for about two weeks. Winston has cataracts in both eyes, he can see shadows but not well. He could possibly have cancer, his calcium levels are high which could be an indication of lymphoma. Winston is a sweet boy.
