Mookie - Adopted

Name: Mookie
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Shiba Inu
Age: 9 yrs
Location: Bethlehem, NH

Vet/Medical Info: Mookie’s vet records are being transferred to current owner’s vet and he will be seen in 2 weeks. We are unable to verify any information at this time.

Owner Info: Mookie’s owner rescued him from being put down.  He is a great dog but she already has 9 other dogs. Mookie is an indoor dog, is house trained as well as leash trained.  He is good with people of all ages, other dogs, and cats.  He currently resides with 9 dogs, 6 cats, and 8 chickens.  He is good with calm dogs, but the more in your face dogs make him nervous and he growls at them.  That is all he has done since she got him on April 6, 2012.  He is a great dog and deserves a good home - a forever home.  He is suffering from severe separation anxiety and his owner is working to help him overcome this.

Koda - In Memory

Name: Koda
Sex: Male (altered-not verified)
Breed: Chow Mix
Age: 7 months
Location: Florence, AL

Vet/Medical Info: We have been unable to verify Koda’s medical information.

Owner Info: Originally, I fostered a puppy from the shelter so he would not be put down. We decided to keep him and took him to be neutered and have rabies shot.  We do not know the cause of his blindness.  Koda is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house, he is not housebroken or leash trained.  He gets along well with people of all ages, female dogs, and cats.  He knows watch out and careful and has a very sweet disposition.  He needs someone who will be with him, work with him, and find out what his condition is. I only wanted to keep him from being put down.  Now, I realize he needs a place where he can get more care, and also, I have to move and cannot take animals with me.

Heidi - Staying With Owner

Name: Heidi
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Wheaten Terrier Mix
Age: Approximately 10 years
Location: Palm Bay, Florida

Vet/Medical Info: Heidi is spayed and utd on rabies and distemper, three year distemper and rabies vaccine was given on 2/27/10, so is not due until 2/27/13.  She is diabetic and has diabetic cataracts, but no other health issues noted.  Currently gets 5 units of insulin 2x/day.  She has not been hw tested in the past several years.
Owner Info: Heidi is an indoor dog with the run of the house, she is housebroken, leash trained, and knows sit, speak, give me your paw, up, lay down, and come here.  She is outgoing and gets along well with people of all ages, cats, dogs, and other small animals.  At one time she resided with 4 cats and a bird.  When cats were newborn, Heidi adopted them as her own babies - she loves them.  Loves everyone and everything.  When company comes to the door she thinks they are her company, very happy around people - they can't believe she's blind.  She would be able to see if she had surgery but we can't afford it.  Heidi has diabetes and gets insulin shots twice a day, other than that she is very healthy.  Heidi is the sweetest dog I've ever been around.  My husband and I plan to travel and we cannot find anyone to care for this special needs dog.  The only resort is to "put her down.”  I don't have pictures of her on computer but Heidi is mostly Wheaten Terrier....she looks like the dog on Beneful Dog Food bags.

No Name English Setter - Reunited With Owner

Name: Unknown
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: English Setter
Age: Unknown, thought middle aged
Location: Dunn, NC

Vet/Medical Info:  Past medical history/vet info unknown.

Owner Info: Someone dropped this dog out on our road and he is blind.  We do not have a fenced yard to keep him in.  He's an outside dog without restrictions.  He gets along well with people of all ages and other dogs and cats.  He knows how to sit but he is always so excited that we can't learn much more about him because he runs off and we are trying to get him used to us so we can learn more about him.  I have not brought him inside as I am trying to get all the ticks and fleas off of him and I will then bring him in and see if he is housebroken.

We have a 9 year old Maltese that he does great with, also there is my father in laws dog who is an outside dog who he gets along good with, an 8 year old Lab mix.  We have chickens that roam free on the land and he does fine with them and also a miniature horse whom he gets along with.  There are two females dogs next door that roam free and he does not mess with them either.  He pretty much stays to himself.

He is doing very well with learning his new surroundings and is getting a lot better about staying at the house and out the road.  He gets around very well by smelling but has run into a few things in the process. He has learned where our porch is and how to climb the steps.  He is doing very well here but we are still scared that he will run off into the road and get hit.  We are expecting our first child so money is tight if it was not for that we would get an underground fence for him and keep him because he is such a sweet and loving dog.

We are in the process of ridding him of all the ticks but he had to have had at least 50 or more on him when he came up to our house.  I purchased front line to put on him to help him out and it seems to be slowly working.  Other than the fact he was starving when he got here, he seems to be very happy and healthy.  We have been feeding him River Run dog food and he seems to be doing much better since he is eating enough.  He is very active and is always running around wagging his tail.  I am going to give him his first bath soon as I am sure all the ticks are dead, once they are washed off I will bring him inside.

He is a wonderful dog. I have been trying to figure out his name but I am not having any luck but he hears when I open the door and comes up to be loved.  We are trying really hard to make him stay in the yard without tying him up because we are scared he would hurt himself because he likes to run.  Also he seems to really like water.  We have a creek that runs through our yard and he loves to go play in it.  He is a very sweet dog and is fine here until we can find him a home.  We will not take him to our local shelter because they kill the dogs every week.  Our only concern is finding him a home where we do not have to worry about him running into the road and getting killed.  He would make a great pet for someone and we would hate it if he never had the chance of having a loving home.

Charlie - Staying With Owner

Name: Charlie
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Boxer/Lab Mix
Age: 2+ years
Location: Lancaster, SC

Vet Info: Neuter verified. Rabies (1 yr) due 5/24, HW negative - due again 5/24.

Owner Info: Charlie is one of my foster dogs that I pulled from Foothills Shelter.  He is a young dog who has developed early onset cataracts and chronic uveitis.  I had hoped to adopt him out quickly but when it was determined he had vision problems, I thought it best not to. Charlie is an indoor dog who is crated.  He is housebroken and leash trained and he knows sit, down, leave and crate.  He has an outgoing personality and is good with people and children of all ages as well as other dogs.  He currently resides with two Rottweilers, a Dachshund and a tuxedo cat.  He has been protective of certain toys that are his favorites but not aggressive.  I can take the toy out of his mouth without issue and if he is playing too intensely with another dog, can take it away from them both and they will go lay down without fuss.  Charlie has completely adapted to his home environment.  Lives indoors and plays outdoors in my back yard.  Limited vision in front of him if you drop a treat but his side and distance vision appear to be fine.  Charlie has developed stringy cataracts in both eyes, vet feels it may be genetic.  Also has chronic uveitis, which is treated with steroids and eyedrops.  Charlie is a very healthy playful dog, loves to run and play.  Great appetite and loves to wrestle with my other dogs and snuggle with me.  He is calm, content and does not appear to be too affected by the vision problem.

Tank - Left At Shelter, Outcome Unknown

Name: Tank
Sex: Male (not altered)
Breed: Catahoula
Age: Approximately 9-10 months
Location: Oak Ridge, NC

Vet Info: Tank has not been vetted by current owner and past medical history is unknown.

Owner Info: I found an add on Craigslist for this dog. I contacted the lady who had him and she told me her son and his friend each purchased a Catahoula puppy. Her son's friend found out he was blind and told him he was going to shoot him. The lady took him in to prevent him from being shot, she can no longer care for him and was going to take him to a shelter. I knew the shelter would put him down since he was visually impaired. I took him in to prevent him from being euthanized at a shelter. Tank is an outside dog in a fenced yard, he is housebroken and leash trained.  Tank is nervous and shy but gets along well with people and children of all ages, other dogs and cats. Previous owner stated he exhibited food aggression once but current owner has seen no evidence of aggression. Tank is a very sweet boy - he just deserves a chance at life in a great home!
