Tucker - Adopted

Name: Tucker
Breed: Pit Bull Mix
Sex: Male (altered)
Age: 4 years
Location: Merion Station, PA

Vet Info: Tucker received a three year rabies and three year distemper vaccine on 9/21/2012, and is next due on 9/21/2015. Tucker is neutered and weighs about 60 pounds.

Owner Info: Tucker was found wandering the streets about two years ago, and his original owner was never found, so the good samaritans who found him kept him.  They have 4 other dogs and 4 cats.  Unfortunately, Tucker has lost much of his peripheral vision so that he startles frequently as he does not see that a person or other dog or cat is approaching from his side.  This loss seems to be getting worse over the past year in the sense that he now sees less to each of his sides. They get around this by talking to Tucker as they approach him and that works well as he turns his head immediately to look at them approaching.  They say that other than this, Tucker is in good health. Tucker is very friendly and responds well to attention.  He is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard, he is housebroken and leash trained.  He knows sit, no, and come.  Tucker is good with both men and women, female dogs, and cats.  Tucker can be possessive with toys, treats, or food, but he has never shown aggression to any human.  However, if a male dog approaches from his side and startles him, Tucker does get very nervous.  Tucker loves people and new places. He likes to eat, sleeps well, and he likes to run!   He especially likes dog chew toys and carries one around for hours on end.   They add that Tucker is a wonderful and friendly dog.  Tucker's owners hope that he will be able to find a nice home with friendly people who like dogs and take time to pet him.  They believe that Tucker would respond best if he is the only dog in a household, and they would be reluctant to have Tucker in a household with a young child as children can easily forget and might not talk to Tucker as they approach and that would startle him.

Update 9/16/13: We just heard from Tucker's owner today. She wrote: "We are still trying hard to re-home Tucker. At this point, we have 6 other dogs, and frankly I just can't cope."

Update 11/23/13: Tucker is still looking for his forever home, please help him if you can!

Update 1/24/14: Tucker is still waiting for his new home!  His owner writes that Tucker's peripheral vision seems to be getting worse and it is very difficult for them. They are still hoping that Tucker will find a new home or rescue!

Update 4/13/14: Tucker's family said he really needs a new home soon. He has been looking for over 18 months!! Please share his information with anyone who might be interested!

Update 6/15/14: Tucker still needs a home!! He is a playful and enthusiastic dog but his owner just has too many dogs! Please share his information!!!

Pete - Adopted

Name: Pete
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Blue Merle Catahoula
Age: 1 ½ years
Location: College Station, TX

Vet Info: Vet said Pete is a ʺsuper dogʺ who is healthy and who has been given ʺimmaculate care.ʺ  Pete is neutered and up to date on his shots. He is HW negative and his current owner gets preventative each month.  His vision issues are due to being a blue merle.  Pete weighs 50 pounds.

Owner Info: Pete is in DESPERATE need of a new home or foster! He's partially blind and partially deaf but doesn't seem to know it! He's decided to start picking fights with a boxer he currently lives with and it's not going well. He's never had issues with any other pets and lives with two other dogs a cat. He's crate trained, house trained, walks on a leash and LOVES to play fetch. He is located in central Texas but can be driven just about anywhere if someone can help him. He's been turned away by two no kill shelters so far and he's running out of time. He can be a little shy around new people at first since he doesn't see very well but comes around in just a few short days.

Smokey - In Memory

Name: Smokey
Age: 2 years
Sex: Male (not altered)
Breed: Australian Shepherd/Dalmation mix
Location: Katy, Texas

Vet Info: Smokey weighs 65 pounds.  Per his owner, he is not neutered or up to date on vaccines, and has not had a recent heartworm test.

Owner Info:  Smokey's owner's daughter took him in as his previous owner was going to put him to sleep because he was blind.  She brought him home at 5wks, and he is now 2 years old. He was born blind and his left eye never developed. Per his owner, the vet said that if he removed the third eyelid from the right eye, Smokey might have some vision. She thinks he sees shadows because he will stop at the shadow of the fence at night. Her daughter has now moved out and left Smoky behind, and her mother is unable to give him the attention he needs. She has begun a relationship and severe pet allergies are involved.  She has contacted no-kill shelters, and he is on the list at one of them.  Smokey is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard, and is not housebroken or leash trained.  Smokey has shown aggression to a person who had previously hit him while trying to discipline him, and another who snuck up on him (he was surprised from behind).  She also says that he can be jealous of her other dogs.  His owner says he's in good health and is a wonderful dog with the right person, but may take a bit to build trust.  She says that he's very loving and goofy.
