Emma - Adopted

Name: Emma
Age: 4 years
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Pitbull/Bulldog Mix
Location: Albany area of NY

Vet Info: Emma is spayed and is up to date on her shots. Her heartworm test was "faintly" positive and the only treatment needed is heartworm preventitive. Emma has small eyes and likely was blind since birth. She is healthy.

Owner Info: Six weeks ago, the current owner rescued Emma and her "seeing eye companion dog" from a hoarder situation in Florida. She was told that Emma was great with other dogs. However, Emma has attacked her companion dog on more than one occasion, and has attacked other dogs in the home, and one time "would not let go." The owner believes she does this out of fear. A rescue tested Emma and said she is not dog aggressive. Emma has never been aggressive to people and is "very gentle" around people. She is an indoor dog and is housebroken and leash trained. She learned her way around her new home quickly. She trusts people and does so well that "you often forget she is blind." Emma is 55 pounds. Right now Emma is being kept separate from the other dogs in her home. She needs a home where she will be the only animal, and she should not be in a home with young children. Her owner said Emma is "happy and healthy."

Bandit - Adopted

Name: Bandit
Age: 1 year
Sex: Male (not altered)
Breed: Australian Cattle Dog
Location: Near Los Angeles, CA

Vet Info: There is no vet information for Bandit at this time.

Owner Info: Bandit's owner has recently moved and now she cannot keep him inside with her, so he needs a new home. Bandit is about a year old and weighs about 35 pounds. He is not yet neutered. He is house trained and leash trained, and understands sit, get down, and leave it. He is an outgoing dog who might be nervous at times, but he is good with people of all ages and also with dogs. When his owner takes him to her parents, Bandit barks at their little dogs but not aggressively. Bandit has never shown an aggression to a person or animal. The owner confirmed Bandit is up to date with his shots and is heartworm negative, and also that he is "very healthy." She said that he is "partially blind but will go fully blind the older he gets. He has the common blinding gene that exists in his breed that causes retinal atrophy." She also said, "Although Bandit is blind, he loves to play catch. He always returns the toy and sits and wait for you to throw it."

Update 4/8/14: Bandit's owner said that Bandit really needs a new home soon! Please share Bandit's information and help him get a home!!!

Harley - Adopted

Name: Harley
Age: 12 years
Sex: Male (not altered)
Breed: Golden Retriever
Location: Northeast Philadelphia area

Vet Info: Harley is not neutered. The vet does not have a record of giving Harley any shots or a heartworm test. Harley is in good health although is blind in one eye and also deaf.

Owner Info: Twelve years ago, Harley was bought from a pet store by his current owner. Now his owner is moving to a new home that only allows one dog, and the owner is taking his two year old golden instead of Harley. The owner said that Harley is not up to date on shots and has not been neutered.  He said that Harley has glaucoma and is on medication.  Harley gets along with people of all ages and also other animals, and is a "well-mannered dog" who "sleeps a lot." He is housebroken and leashtrained, and knows the commands to sit, shake and lay down.

Maxx

Name: Maxx
Age: 16 months
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: German Shepherd Mix
Location: Western CT

Vet Info: Maxx is up to date on shots. He is neutered. He is HW negative. He weighs 80 lbs. He is blind, due to possible glaucoma or uveitis. Maxx's owner states, “he has one eye that continues to be free of any glaucoma, however we are providing two separate eye drops to both of his eyes to impede any possible deterioration.”

Owner Info: Maxx is a blind dog whose owners are trying to re-home him because he lives with an older dog who has become aggressive towards him and his owners want to ensure his long-term health and safety. Maxx has been microchipped. According to the owners, he is a German Shepherd mix. Maxx is an indoor dog who has been confined to one area of the house. He is housebroken but not leash-trained, and knows the commands, sit, stay, off, and shake. He is described as outgoing and good with men, women, and teenagers, and male and female dogs. He has never had any interaction with cats or other small animals or young children. He is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never bitten or snapped at anyone. His owner says Maxx adapts very well to new surroundings and "He is shockingly not shy or timid in any manner no matter where we go."  Maxx's owners have two other dogs, a 3 year old pit beagle mix who is “calm and interacts well with Maxx” and a 4 year old Lab mix, who is “aggressive to both dogs.” Maxx was bitten by the aggressive dog last year and had to undergo spinal surgery, which he has now fully recovered from. The owners are now trying to re-home the aggressive dog as well, but without success so far. The owner writes, “Maxx deserves a safe and loving home where someone can be with him in a more quality manner. My spouse and I have big hearts and believed that our home was a great place to rescue Maxx when he was a puppy when no one else wanted him. We never thought that our lab would cause so much angst in the house and cause us to have to make such a decision but we are thinking of Maxx safety and want to be sure he does not get hurt. We've tried training but cannot allow them to interact any longer.”

Alma and Sebestian - In Foster Care

Name: Alma (black and white) and Sebastian (mostly black)
Age: 3 months
Sex: Female and Male (puppies/not altered)
Breed: Possibly Labrador/Border Collie Mixes
Location: Arkansas

Vet Info: The puppies appear to be healthy. The vet has given no shots but has on record that the owner said the first distemper was given in late February. The vet did a fecal and checked the puppies' eyes. The vet said that the puppies apparently had a reaction to their distemper vaccination which caused their corneas to develop edema and they appeared cloudy. The edema and cloudiness cleared after a round of a prescription medication, but then the cloudiness and edema reappeared again. One puppy has both eyes affected and the other pup has one. The vet thinks that this might clear up over time, but he is not sure.

Owner Info: The owner pulled these pups from the local Animal Control and currently they are being boarded at the kennel where the owner works. Since they are puppies, they are not yet house trained or leash trained, but are affectionate and energetic and ready for a home!

Update 4/8/14: Alma and Sebastian are getting more urgent! The owner said they have had their first set of shots. They are still living in a kennel and they need a home soon!!!
