Puppy - Staying With Owner

Name: Puppy
Breed: West Highland Terrier
Sex: Male (altered)
Age: 5 weeks
Location: Western NY

Vet Info: Puppy weighs two pounds. Puppy has not been vetted.

Owner Info: Puppy is an adorable little fellow who became blind during birth. His breeder is unable to keep him and is looking for rescue. Puppy's owner writes, "My westie had a litter on 3/9/14 and during the males birth the head was constricted by a contraction resulting in birth fluids to enter the eyes ( this is what my Vet believes happened). As soon as it was noticed it was straight off to the Vet. Some antibiotic was given and a test sent off. Test showed it was a bacterial infection. The shot did clear it up and fast but the damage appears to be done. Both eyes are white and at best sees shapes. Clearly, he is not for adoption now. His needs are more than I can probably provide. The training alone is beyond anything I've done. I am really in need of someone who has the time and knowledge to care and train him properly. The Vet says his vision may improve but I think he is blowing smoke up my butt. Any help would be appreciated." Other than that, Puppy's owner says he is a healthy, growing pup!

Keller - Adopted

Name: Keller
Age: 1 year
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Collie
Location: In Ontario/near Detroit

Vet Info: Keller has been neutered and is up to date on his rabies. He also has a microchip.

Owner Info: A young woman saved Keller from being euthanized by his breeder, but she was unable to keep him because he did a lot of barking in her apartment. So a rescue took in Keller a few months ago, hoping to keep him until he is adopted, but they said he is a little too much for their foster homes who are not experienced with totally blind and partially deaf dogs. Keller was "skin and bones" when he was first brought into the rescue but now is much healthier and he has put on some weight. Keller is about a year old and weighs 35 pounds. He is housebroken and leash trained. He is a little shy but gets along with people and with other dogs. The only concern was that one foster home told the rescue that Keller tried to bite the foster mom, but the rescue does not know the circumstances and they think something scared him. Otherwise, he has done quite well even though he has had to be moved from foster home to foster home. The rescue is hoping someone will adopt this beautiful dog and give him a great home.

She says that Max needs a yard because "he is unable to hold his pee for long anymore. He currently goes onto a screened porch with storage closet where his bed is". She's also trying to rehome her other pets because she's only supposed to have one dog. She's had Max for three years and got him from a Craigslist ad. Max is completely blind and has had both eyes removed "due to rupture". Max is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house, he is not housebroken or leash trained. Max is a very sweet boy, and is good with people of all ages, both male and female dogs, and even cats! He currently lives with other dogs and cats. He is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never shown any aggression. His owner wants us to know that he's a loving boy, and is very friendly and smart! Name: Buttercup
Age: 8 years
Breed: Shih Tzu
Sex: Female (altered)

A volunteer from the local Humane Society has been going over to the home to feed Wolfie and let him out, but they are unable to continue for long. Wolfie needs a home or rescue as soon as possible! They have tried all of their "dog" connections, but have had no luck. Wolfie is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained. He is good with men and women, but due to his size and blindness, a home without younger children is recommended. He is good with both male and female dogs and currently lives with a female lab and a cat. He is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has never bitten or snapped.  Wolfie is completely blind, and his eyes are described as "white". Wolfie has lived in the same home his whole life and is able to find his way around both inside and outside. His caregiver writes, "He is a real sweet dog, and loves attention. She says that he is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has not shown aggression. He currently lives with cats. His owner writes, "Vet thinks he is completely blind as his pupils do not respond to light or changes in light she can see to part of the back of one eye but not the other as they are cloudy. Bella - Adopted

Name: Bella
Age: 7 ½ years
Breed: Schnauzer
Sex: Female (altered)
Location: Lexington, KY

Vet Info: Bella is confirmed spayed and UTD on vaccines. Nothing is due until December.

Owner Info: Bella is a beautiful Schnauzer whose owners fly extensively and are not home very often. She constantly has to adjust to an ever changing environment and this has been difficult for her. They believe that Bella needs a stable home situation and are hoping for rescue or adoption for Bella. Previously, Bella belonged to their sister-in-law, who died of cancer, and they've had Bella for 16 months. They write, "We are heartbroken that we must find another home for her as she has been through so much. First she lost her 'mommy' when my sister died 15 months ago. And then she lost her sight 7 months ago. But our living arrangements are not stable and our other Schnauzer who is 11 y.o. is so jealous of any attention that we show Bella that Bella is deprived of the affection she craves and deserves. She often stands in the background as if she is saying 'I won't intrude or be a bother.'" Bella is an indoor dog with run of the house, she is house broken and leash trained. Bella has had agility and obedience training and is a very smart girl who knows many commands! Bella is good with both men and women, but they believe a home without children would be best for her. Bella can be possessive over food and has snapped at another dog over food. Bella's owners gave us more details and write, "Bella gets aggressive over food. She also has had a few occasions of aggression over her toys or when she felt possessive or protective of her 'mommy.' Those are the only 3 scenarios where she has shown aggression. She usually just growls and shows her teeth, but over food has snapped/nipped. By far, the biggest problem is around food/treats. Otherwise she is exceptionally docile and sweet. She has not been aggressive for any other reason(s)." Bella is completely blind and has been diagnosed with SARDS. Other than that, she is a healthy girl who has had regular vet visits. Bella's owners want us to know that "Bella is a loving and dedicated companion. She is intelligent and has extensive training. Bella is very healthy and would be a perfect companion for one person. She is absolutely loyal and craves cuddling and attention."
