Spirit - Outcome Unknown

Name: Spirit
Age: 8-10 years
Sex: Female (not altered)
Breed: Chow or Chow Mix
Location: South Carolina

Vet Info: Not available - this dog was a stray and the current owner can't afford to take her to the vet.

Owner Info: The current owner wrote: "I picked up this poor baby from the side of the road last Saturday night after almost being hit by car and she was dragging a chain. I noticed she seemed hard of hearing, if not almost deaf. After a few days of being in a makeshift shelter in my yard, I brought her inside as the temperature was going to be in teens.I realized she was mostly blind when she had a lot of trouble going up porch steps the first time (now she is pretty good on them). I can't keep her as she doesn't seem cat friendly, and I have rescued cats inside and feral cats outside that have claimed me as home. She is in a 12 ft hallway now since that's the only place she can safely be in my cluttered home." Spirit weighs about 40 pounds. She is not spayed. She is housetrained but not leash trained. The current owner does not know how she would be with other dogs. Spirit does run into things in the house. The current owner wrote: "Spirit is a sweet dog and deserves to be pampered for the rest of her life after being on a chain and outside probably for all of her past life."

No Name Puppy - In Foster Care

Sex: Female (not altered)
Breed: Mini Australian Shepherd?
Location: Denton, TX

She was left at her home when she was only a few weeks old. She nursed her back to health but couldn't keep her.  She's about 9 weeks old, a mini-Aussie we believe. She had such a terrible upper respiratory infection when she was first found that her nose was almost
completely ulcerated away. It has healed but will never look completely normal. She is active and playful and doing well, but she has juvenile cataracts and is mostly blind.

Lucky - In Memory

Name: Lucky
Age: Estimated 4 years
Breed: Unknown
Sex: Female (altered as per caregiver, not yet confirmed)
Location: York, SC

Vet Info: Not vet information available at this time.

Owner Info: An elderly woman who is in and out of the hospital and needs to rehome several dogs.  One is a female named Lucky, "a big breed dog who is blind and diabetic and a senior".  Lucky is currently being cared for by a wonderful woman who is looking after the dogs in the elderly lady's home.  We're told Lucky is very sweet and loving, good with people of all ages, and good with other cats and dogs.  She's housetrained, but does need pee pads at night due to being on a diuretic for her diabetes.

Update 3/10/15: Lucky is home now but her owner feels that Lucky needs to have a new home.  Her owner broke her neck twice and had knee replacement so she feels she is not in the best position to give Lucky the care she needs.  Lucky is getting her insulin and pills but a new, caring home would be greatly appreciated.

Update 9/11/15: We've heard from the woman caring for Lucky, and Lucky is in urgent need!
Lucky's caregiver has several health issues and is not able to meet Lucky's needs.  She loves Lucky but feels that the insulin injections and daily needs for Lucky are more than she can handle.  She said Lucky is a very sweet dog and deserves better than what she is getting now.

Update 10/3/15:  Lucky's owner is in desperate need to find Lucky a new home or rescue.  She is physically not able to care for Lucky and cannot afford her medication.  Her owner writes, "I am physically unable to give her the right care she needs, I have had a broken neck in the last year and have no help and cannot afford her medication and vet visits." Lucky is an indoor dog with run of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained.   Lucky is a friendly and sweet girl and is good with people of all ages, and other dogs and cats.  She currently lives with other dogs and cats.  She is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has never bitten or snapped.  Lucky is nervous during thunderstorms and loves to be in a lap until they go away!  Lucky has diabetes, and is on insulin daily.  Her owner also tells us Lucky is blind in both eyes (both eyes are white), but she doesn't know the cause.  Lucky's owner wants us to know, "She is sweet and loving dog."
