Age: 12 ¾ years
Location: Galt, CA

Vet/Medical Info: Sam is confirmed neutered. He's current on vaccines. Dhpp is next due 3/26/2014,
and rabies is next due 3/29/2014. They have no record of any heartworm testing andno other relevant medical information.

Owner Info: DOB September 1999. Sam's owner is 80 yrs old and has lost her home and has to move out of state to live with her son.
They do not have fenced yard or facilities for Sam. He would have to live in a small laundry room which isn't big enough for him to move around. She has checked with local vet's office,
friends and other family members and no one is able to take the him.
Sam is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house, he is housebroken but not leash trained. He knows the
commands stop, no and lay down. He is an outgoing boy, good with adults and older children. His owner has never teased him with food but he does like to hold on to his toys.
Since he has been blind he doesn't play much with his stuffed toys. He used to chase the neighbors cats, but no more
since he can't see. He adjusted well when he lost his sight, he has two rooms plus the laundry room and gets around them just
fine, uses the dog door to go outside in fenced yard. I don't move things around
so that he doesn't get confused. He goes to his water and food bowl and his bed.
He has adapted well to being blind. He is healthy otherwise and likes to be near you. He likes to lay near you and nap. He sleeps well. Sam had cataracts and some
bleeding pressure behind his eyes. Had eyes removed and prosthetics put in. So he
just looks like hes asleep. He is white with 3 Large black spots and black, white and
tan on his face with black ears. He is a cute dog. He doesn't run anymore and walks
slowly. When excited he will go around in circles and bumps into things but generally he does very well. He is in good health, his nails get trimmed every 4 weeks or so.
He is current on his rabies vaccination and dog license. Sam's owner hopes and
prays we can find a home for Sam, she will miss him terribly but will be leaving her
home the last week of August so it is imperative that she finds a home for him before then. Thank you so much, Sam will come with his bed, blanket, food and water bowls that he is familiar with and his owner will try and send a donation to help in our
endeavors with these animals that people can no longer keep.

Cletus and Chloe - No Longer In Need

Chloe (left) and Cletus (right)

Names: Cletus and Chloe
Age: Cletus 10 years, Chloe 13 ½ years
Breed: Chihuahuas
Sex: Cletus is a neutered male, Chloe an entire female
Location:  Midlothian, VA

Vet Info: Vetting is not yet confirmed, but due to the urgency we wanted to post these two as soon as possible.  Will update with vetting asap.  Owner says that she has been unable to keep up with heartworm preventative due to expense.  Cletus weighs 13 pounds, Chloe weighs 19 pounds.

Owner Info: Cletus and Chloe's owner is losing her home and they cannot go with her.  She is moving at the end of July, and they need a new home by then. Their owner is heartbroken about this and is begging for help as she does not want to euthanize.  She is doing everything she can to help them find rescue/adoption, as the situation is out of her control. Cletus and Chloe are a lovable bonded pair. Cletus is blind and Chloe is deaf, and they are completely dependent upon each other!   Their current owner has had them about four years, and they are unable to be returned to their previous owner.  She has tried contacting many rescues but has had no luck so far.  Cletus and Chloe desperately need a new home/rescue by the end of July.

Cletus

Cletus was blind in one eye when he first arrived at his current owner's, and has gone completely blind over the past 4 years.  Cletus is housebroken, he will go to the back door when he wants out, and is crate trained, and he loves his crate and blanket.  He knows, "outside", "potty", "cookie", and "bed".   According to his owner, he is a cute fat little man that only wants to sleep, eat and go potty….and get a treat when he is done. Even though he is blind he gets around well because he knows his boundaries. He is good with Chloe, and can get along with other dogs and adults after he gets to know them. His first instinct to strangers is to bark and growl but only from his crate. He lives in his crate and has open access to the kitchen only.  He sleeps locked in his crate at night.

Chloe

Chloe has not been spayed, her owner was told by the SPCA she was too old to spay.  Her owner says that she has no known health issues other than her waddling because of her age. She is housebroken and will go to the back door when she needs to go out. She is crate trained and sleeps locked in the crate at night with Cletus, and she is left in the kitchen during the day with him.  Her owner says that she is a very sweet fat funny little girl, she loves to follow around the broom and vacuum while cleaning. She gets along with everyone and loves anyone who loves on her. She gets along with other dogs after she meets them. No matter where you go in the house she wants to follow you and sit by you.

Ms. Benson - Adopted

Name: Ms. Benson
Age: 9 ½ years
Breed: Standard Poodle
Sex: Female (altered)
Location: Chemult, OR

Vet Info:  Ms. Benson is spayed and current on rabies....she is next due 5/30/14. She has not had any other vaccines. She has not been heartworm tested. She is a healthy girl!  Ms. Benson weighs about 47 pounds.

Owner Info: Ms. Benson's owner has had a stroke and loses her balance easily.  It is difficult for her to care for Ms. Benson, especially in winter, with the heavy snow and ice.  Ms. Benson has knocked her over.  Ms. Benson is housebroken and leash trained, and knows many commands, including "sit", "stay", "find your bed", "off", and "down".  Ms. Benson is good with men, women, and children, and other dogs and cats!  She is very friendly and sweet.  She has never shown any aggression and will let her owner take a bone right out of her mouth.  She has cataracts in both eyes, and can no longer see out of the middle of her eyes, but does have peripheral vision.  A floodlight in the yard helps her at night.  She has been an active dog, but is settling down now.  She's a wonderful girl and her owner is praying to find rescue for her.  She will be 10 years old in October. Her owner says she is smaller than usual for her breed.

Edie - Adopted

Name: Edie
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Cocker Spaniel
Age: 8 years
Location: Brandon, FL

Vet/Medical Info: Edie is spayed and is current on rabies and bordatella.  She's due for her next rabies shot on 5/21/2013, and for bordatella on 11/21/12. They had no record of heartworm testing and had no other relevant information.  Edie weighs 23 pounds.

Owner Info: Beautiful Edie is blind and mostly deaf.  Edie's owner saved her from being euthanized at a local county shelter where she was found as a stray, and her hope was just to care for her until she was better, and then find her a good home.  Edie's owner has been unable to find her a home, and cannot keep her due to financial and living situation constraints.  Edie is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house, she is not housebroken, but is leash trained.  She is good with both men and women, other dogs and cats, and currently lives with three other dogs and a cat. Edie has never shown aggression, but if one of the other dogs attacks her, Edie does react.  She tolerates vet checks, eye drops, etc. with ease.   She is an easy going and friendly girl!    Despite her blind and deafness, she trusts easily and adapts to the situation given to her.  Her owner's vet thinks she has chronic dry eye, and that it was left untreated, causing her blindness.  They prescribed Optimmune, which she has been on since 6/22.  It seems to be helping, but she does still get the green goo in her eyes regularly, so her owner is not sure.  Also, her right eye appears to have suffered some kind of damage, it is recessed and shrunken with scar tissue interior.  Edie also has a heart murmur.  Edie has a lot of love to give and is very sweet.  Her owner knows the right home is out there for her to live out her life!

Molly - Staying With Owner

Name: Molly
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Labrador/Chow Mix
Age: 8 years
Location: South Pasadena, FL

Vet/Medical Info: Molly is spayed and up to date on vaccinations. She’ll be due in June 2013 for rabies, distemper, lepto and bordatella. A heartworm test in June 2012 confirms she’s heartworm negative. She is on Thyroxine for hypothyroidism and just received an antibiotic ointment for a cyst that opened on her tail. They had no other relevant information other than to say she is blind...Verification from January 2011: Last fecal sample taken in 2009. Ophthamologist said Molly suffers from SARDS in
both eyes and is completely blind.

Owner Info: Molly was in our owner surrender system early 2011 but her owner has been trying to do everything she can to be able to keep Molly. She spends a lot of time away from home and her daughter has moved onto college. With her commute to work it’s not fair to Molly to spend so much time alone. She has been with her owner since she was a pup, she got her
from a shelter. Molly is an indoor dog with the run of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained. She can walk Molly without and leash, she comes to her name, comes to the snap of
fingers and her owner guides her that way with new territory. She is an outgoing girl, good with
people of all ages including children and good with male dogs, cats and other small animals.
She has put on 20lbs since she went blind, she use to walk with everyday. Molly is very friendly and loving, but very lonely. She is willing to go and do whatever as long as she trusts you... she
really adapts very well to all the changes that are going on in her owners life. She is such a love,
it would be great for her to bewith a family where there is activity and maybe that one special family member who will love her most…..she is a sweet, well mannered dog, very loyal and
makes you feel so special when you come home.

Update 7/28/2012: Molly's owner will be moving in with her mother by August 13th and is unable to take Molly because the complex has a weight limitation for dogs. Sweet Molly will need to be rehomed before then.

Message from Molly's owner: Molly is an 8-year old black lab mix. My daughter and I rescued her from the Humane Society of Sarasota in 2004. She is a blessing to our family and has the sweetest disposition. She is very good with children. She loves going for walks, car rides, and relaxing at home. Molly has always been on frontline (flea prevention) and Heart-Guard (heart worm prevention). She is also up to date on all her current shots and always has been. Upon request, we will send her records on file. She is a very loving and loyal friend. About a year and a half ago, Molly was diagnosed with SARDS (Sudden Acute Retinal Disorder Syndrome). This is sudden blindness. The specialist explained this disorder occurs within female dogs (no specific breed) that are over the age of 6, making Molly the perfect candidate. Molly has adapted very well given the circumstances. She comes to certain commands. For example, when she is walking around in new areas she trusts her own instincts but also listens for her commands. She is spayed and has a microchip in case she were to ever go missing. Due to my new living situation, I am unable to have Molly because of weight limitations. We are looking for a loving and supporting home and/or family.

Mini - Adopted

Name: Mini
Breed: Dachshund
Age: 5 years (estimated)
Sex: Female (altered)
Location: Morrisville, PA

Vet Info: According to her rescue, Mini is spayed and up to date on vaccines.  She is heartworm negative.

Owner Info: Mini is currently with Dachshund Rescue of Bucks County, PA, but they are hoping for other placement as their rescue is not equipped to meet her special needs and they do not have applicants who can handle her special needs. Mini has had some difficulty in her foster homes and will need to be the only pet.  She is an indoor dog who is crated, she is housebroken, but not leash trained.  She is good with adults, but is a nervous dog.  Mini adapts to the surroundings in time, but does not adjust well to some other dogs, and she wants to be the dominant dog.  She is in good health otherwise. She is very sweet, housebroken and gives cues when she needs to go outside.

From her PF page: Hello. My name is Mini and the folks at DRBC say that I am extra special. Truth be told, I have a vision problem. My family dumped me when I lost most of my vision, but I never lost my ability to love. I don't understand. I only want to be loved and give love in return. I learn real quick and adapted to my foster home real fast, but the other kids scare me sometimes and so it would be best if I could be a one and only. Hey this means dedicated love for you. I hope you have a big heart and are looking for someone that can give lots of love - cause that's me! See you at the meet-n-greet! Mini is a 5 year old spayed black and tan female who is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on preventative and has been placed on the DRBC long life diet. If you are seriously interested in participating in DRBC's Adoption Program, visit our webpage: http://www.doxierescue.com/ or send an email to Info@DoxieRescue.com for an application. Mama Girl - At Humane Society of Eastern North Carolina

Name: Mama Girl
Sex: Female (not altered)
Breed: Labrador Mix
Age: Unknown
Location: Greenville, NC

Vet/Medical Info: There is no vet info as Mama Girl was found under her caregiver's porch.  Mama Girl weighs 40 pounds.

Owner Info: Mama Girl had a litter of 6 puppies under her caregiver's porch. The puppies were at least 5 weeks old when they were able to get her to start eating from a bowl.  They were able to get the puppies out and have found homes for 4 of the 6. Mama Girl has gained weight and appears to be thriving.  They do not have a fenced yard and are very concerned for her safety. They've put up posters and have done their best to find her owner, but have had no luck.  Mama Girl is an outdoor dog and is not housebroken or leash trained.  She is very sweet and friendly, and good with men, women, teenagers, male dogs, and other small animals.  She has never shown any aggression.  Her caregiver says that she is amazing and that she has to be very smart to have raised this litter of puppies virtually unassisted with the excessive heat that they have had!!  According to her caregiver, Mama Girl appears to have no vision in one eye either due to a traumatic cataract or possibly a complication of high pressure.  She has limited vision in the other eye as well.  When they first discovered her, her eyes were bulging but seem to be much improved since they have been caring for her. She has the sweetest temperament.  They really wish they could keep her but know that she will make a wonderful companion for someone.

Update 8/1/2012: Mama Girl's situation has gotten more urgent. Her caregivers will be taking her to a shelter this coming weekend if a foster/forever home can't be found.
