Vet Info: Vet info has not yet been verified, but will post with vet info as soon as possible.  He has not received vaccinations or a heartworm test with current caregiver.  He weighs 18 pounds. 

Owner Info: This dog was abandoned. A good samaritan saw him at a busy intersection, and then on another street where he was soaking wet, dirty, and matted.  They took him to their vet and he was not microchipped and did not have a collar.  At the vet's, it was noted that he has been neutered and is healthy except for his blindness.  Unfortunately, they cannot keep this dog because they have a swimming pool. They say he is a very sweet dog!!!  They have called several vets in their area to find out if someone has reported a missing dog.  They have also called shelters and they suggested contacting BDRA.  He weighs 18 pounds and is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained.  He is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has not shown any aggression.  They say he has done fine in their house!   They do have another dog, but they have been keeping him separate as he is not vaccinated.  Per his caregiver, the vet said his eyelids are small for his size. She looked at his eyes with several instruments and did some vision tests with her hands but he was unresponsive. The vet examined him and said he is in good health except for his skin condition which is something that occurs with the breed. His gums were pink and there was some tartar on his teeth and mild gingivitis.  His caregiver says again that he is so sweet!

Owner Info: Hi! My name is Blaze! One warm Monday morning last week, about 530 am, my new foster mom was driving through Starbucks. It was the one on the corner of Airline Drive & Beene Boulevard in Northern Bossier. Much to her surprise as she's rounded the corner she saw me lying in the middle of the drive thru on the concrete not moving. She thought that I had already passed on. Well, little did she know, I just thought it was a great place to take a rest! (Not so much, now, bc I could've been squished!) When she got out of her car and touched me it startled me a little bit and I jumped up and started licking her all over her face and wagging my whole back end! Before she got out to check on me, she had honked her horn at me, but I couldn't hear it because I am completely DEAF! Well, I was so happy someone had found me, & that someone else didn't think I was dead or just not see me and continue to drive forward and run me over! How grateful I was for this lady rescuing me! So, she picked me up and took me to the front of Starbucks to see if anyone knew who I was. The ladies there said they'd seen me for several days & that I've been near the dumpster eating from it, but they did not know where I belonged. My new foster mom began a quest to find my owners. I don't have a microchip so that was out, and no one on craigslist, or the local shelters were looking for me.:-( My foster mom thinks I'm about a year and 1 half old and she has worked at a veterinarian for the past 13 years so she's a pretty good judge of age, by appearance. Also, I weigh about 28 lbs, but will not get much heavier, if you feed me properly. Not going to get much taller, because I am a basset mix & I have super short legs! Not meaning to squeak my own toy here, but I am pretty cute if I do say so myself! I am not spayed yet but do need to be soon. Then, guess what happened? This nice lady took me home, into her house with 7 other dogs! Theyre a lot of fun to play with, but that's a lot of dogs. Also, she runs and out of pocket out of home cat rescue and is at capacity and at her wits end with not having all she needs without donations for the kittens and cats. She pays for everything out of pocket. I have of course added to that expense. As much as she would love to keep me, 7 dogs are way too many and I made number 8! I am very smart! Like I said I am completely deaf, but if you get my attention by stomping clapping or pounding, and I look at you, within 4 days, I already learned 4 hand signals for basic commands & my foster mom taught me! (come, stay, go, or lay down) I have double ice blue glass eyes but have only a few problems seeing! I am not completely blind but my foster mom is sure that I am more like partially blind...I LOVE kids, other dogs of all sizes and breeds, & I don't really mind cats and kittens. My foster mom just said I get a little rough with the smaller kittens so it's not gonna work for her to keep me here because cat rescue is her number 1 priority. I am completely housebroken and have not had an accident since she has had me! Won't you find it in your heart to contact my foster mom or Petsavers, and I can make a lifelong loving companion for someone! I would love a family with kids and fenced yard. But, I would also love a home with only 1 owner or even just a Mommy and Daddy. I love to run and play! Also I am really beginning to love going on walks in the neighborhood. I am very gentle and affectionate and had never even growled at any person or animal in the new foster home that I just arrived at last Monday. My foster mom doesn't want to but if I'm not gone within 3 days which would make it Thursday at the latest, she's going to have to take me to the clinic and put me in a kennel!:-( contact my foster mom, Mary @ tandomwolf@gmail.com HURRY PLEASE! Charlie - In Foster Care

Vet/Medical Info: Charlie is spayed and up to date on rabies and distemper, although both are due in September.  She is out of date on her bordetella.  She had never been tested for HW.  She has had both eyes removed.  She is in good health as far as the vet clinic knows.  The last time she was seen there was in August of 2011.

Owner Info: DOB April 2010. Charlie's owner is a working father of a two year old and recently his wife has stepped out on their marriage. He is in the middle of a divorce now and Charlie has been one of the many victims of their circumstances. He wants very much to be what she needs him to be, but he must realign his priorities to focus on his own family, particularly his son. He has only started to contact rescues and individuals. He is focusing on organizations that specialize in Great Danes or blind dogs. I was referred to us by Great Dane Rescue of the Carolinas. Charlie is an outdoor dog with a fenced in yard, she is housebroken but not leash trained. She mainly knows commands such as sit and come, she used to respond to more, but those are the only two they have needed in the past year. She is good with people and children of all ages and good with cats. Charlie is a very nervous and anxious dog, but she adapts well. Generally speaking she is always unsettled, but it does not get any worse when she is in a new place. Charlie had both eyes removed at age 1 (just over 1 year ago) in separate surgeries, a month apart. The cause was sudden onset glaucoma. They were told that this was most likely a genetic condition. Since the surgeries she has has no more problems. Charlie also has always had a very sensitive coat. This is complicated by her preference for being outdoors and the fact that their ability to devote time to bathing and treating her coat is significantly reduced. She has also suffered recently from ear mites that cause her discomfort. Again, they do what they can to keep these things under control, but while she is outside they are almost impossible for them to manage. Both of Charlie's owners love her very much, and that love makes them realize that they can't keep her anymore. His wife is already in a position where she is unable to have a dog, and he is working toward a different living situation as well. He is only able to keep Charlie for another few months at best.

Sheila - In Foster Care

Vet Info: Sheila was brought in to be spayed, but it was determined that she had already been spayed.  She is up to date on vaccines.  She had one-year distemper, parvo, and bordetella vaccines on 7/17/12, and a one-year rabies vaccine on 8/10/2012.  She is heartworm negative.  Sheila weighs 50 pounds.  Sheila has had seizures and according to the rescue, she has epilepsy. 

Owner Info: Sheila is a very sweet girl who was pulled by a rescue from the pound because she was on the E-List.  She is such a sweet dog they couldn't let that happen!  While in boarding she started having seizures which the vet feels made her lose 60% of her sight (her vision was just recently lost).  They need to find her a safe place to go, so Sheila can get out of the boarding atmosphere.  They have been networking everywhere to try to find Sheila a caring home or a rescue more capable of meeting her needs, but have not had any luck.  Sheila is an indoor dog, and is housebroken and leash trained.  She is an outgoing girl, and good with men, women, teenagers and children, and both male and female dogs.  She is not possessive of toys, treats or food, and has never shown any aggression. She is in good health minus her epilepsy, and some loss of sight.  She is a sweet girl who needs a loving, caring place to go.  

Cooper - Adopted

Breed: Labrador/Siberian Husky Mix
Age: 3 ½ years per owner (vet records indicate he is 4 ½ years)
Location: San Jose, CA

 

Vet/Medical Info: Cooper was born Feb 16, 2008.  He is neutered.  He is not up to date on his shots.  His three year rabies shot expired on 6/30/12 and his distemper expired on 8/2/12.  His bordetella expires in three days.  He had a HW test done just over a year ago, on 8/2/11, and it was negative.  Cooper's owner has never purchased HW preventative from this vet office.  Cooper has not been seen at the vet's for almost a year.  At that time, they noted in the record that he had "visual problems" but did not state he was blind, and recommended that he be seen by an eye specialist.  They have no diagnosis in his record of any vision issue.

Owner Info: Due to life and family changes, the residence Cooper's owner is living at is being sold and he has not been able to locate rentals for larger dogs to remain in the school district. He's tried family and friends but was hesitant to list on a social site as he wants to make sure Cooper is taken care of in the best way possible. Cooper is an outdoor dog without restrictions, he is housebroken and leash trained. He had puppy training for basic commands and is a fantastic listener. He knows commands such as stay, sit, down, leave it, bed, lay down, shake, fetch balls (get it), go potty and outside. He is generally an outgoing boy but can be a little nervous/shy at times. He is good with adults and children of all ages and is good with cats (he previously used to live with two of them) and other small animals. He can get nervous around other dogs but has never had any issues. They have had to move several times over the last couple years due to life changes and he does a tremendous job of adapting, slow stepping and such. Cooper has roughly 5% vision, if that. He started slowly by bumping into things around the house that were common then over the spam of about six months then running into large objects (doors, trees, people and such). He's healthy with a high metabolism and healthy appetite. He has an unbelievably sweet personality. He's been around children since they brought him home and loves to be around people but can take a bit to warm to other dogs. He lives both indoors and outdoors. He loves to cuddle, play ball and tug-of-war. He will lay by your side all day, or walk with you in the yard. He's incredibly protective of children and will get between adults and children when playing and he'll warn the adult with a bark. He's quiet by nature, loves being lazy but looks forward to chasing the ball outside.         

Jitters - Adopted

Age: 4 1/2 years
Location: Apopka, FL

Vet/Medical Info:  Jitters is neutered. He has epilepsy controlled by phenobarb.  The records say he is blind due to congenital cataracts and "micro-something" (the person on the phone could not read the writing, but most likely micropthalmia).  Jitters was last seen at the vet's in May of 2011 and he had shots at that time, including a one year rabies shot and distemper. Had a HW test in May 2011 (negative).  Owner has not ever bought HW preventative for Jitters from the vet.  The person at the vet office said that Jitters is "overdue" for all shots plus a HW test according to their records.  She also mentioned how cute this dog is!!

Owner Info: DOB 1/15/08. Jitters's owner has a 6-month-old who requires quite a bit of attention and her husband's work schedule has changed.  This requires them to get daycare for their baby which in turn leaves them little money to continue to care for all of their 5 dogs. She has tried various local rescue organizations with no luck.  Jitters is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard, he is housebroken and leash trained.  Jitters knows many commands!  He knows how to sit, outside, inside, nite-nite (to go to sleep in their bedroom), get out of the kitchen, and in your box (he likes to sleep in his crate).  He is an outgoing boy, and good with men, women, kids, and other dogs.  He is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has never shown any aggression.  His owner says he's a smart dog!  In the past when they traveled in state they always took him along. He's been to many hotels and his first instinct is to go around the whole room and sniff the perimeter so he gets a general idea of his surroundings.   Jitters went completely blind at about one year old, and he also has epilepsy. He is on Phenobarbital and has had no incidents since being on medication. Jitters is a very friendly dog, he loves to go out and walks pretty good on a harness. He's been socialized quite a bit but doesn't really play with other dogs. He loves to sunbathe and sleep with you. He's got a great temperament and does well with kids.   

Bella - In Foster Care

Location: Maynard, MA

Vet info: They have only seen Bella one time, have no previous records. Apparently a previous owner was to fax over records from another vet and that never happened. Bella was seen in April 2011 at which time she received only a 3 yr. Rabies vac.  ~ no HW or Distemper was checked or given. They stated that at that one visit that the dog had an eye issue???. She also is spayed. Bella weighs 20 pounds. 

Owner Info: Bella's owner is going through some very difficult times and is completely overwhelmed.  She (Bella's owner) is 8.5 months pregnant and on bed rest, she has a 10 y.o. with special needs, and an 8 y.o.  Her father died 3 months ago and she is executor of his estate. She is overwhelmed and cannot properly take care of Bella or incur any additional costs at this time.  She has tried Craigslist and the local Schnauzer Rescue with no luck. Bella has no tear ducts and her eyes need to be rinsed a couple times a day. Because she can't see well, she has to be supervised when out. Bella's owner believes she can see shadows.  She has not had Bella long, she took her from a friend who couldn't take care of her and that friend can't take her back now.  Bella is an outdoor dog on a tie-out, she is housebroken and leash trained.  She is somewhat nervous, but good with women and children.  She is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never shown any aggression.  Her owner notes that she is a very cuddly and loving little girl!  She adds that Bella is a sweet girl that would thrive in a home that had a fenced yard.  Bella cuddles and is very sweet!!
