Shorty - Adopted

Name: Shorty
Age: 10 years
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Poodle
Location: Near Savannah, Georgia

Vet Info: Shorty is neutered and up to date on his rabies, distemper and bordetella. He is heartworm negative. He has bilateral cataracts but otherwise is healthy. He weighed 8 and a half pounds at his last vet visit in February 2014.

Owner Info: A rescue got Shorty several months ago from an owner who was about to take him to a shelter. The owner could no longer care for him. Shorty is an indoor dog who is housebroken and leash-trained. He follows the commands to sit and to come. He is good with people of all ages, but is nervous around dogs he does not know. The rescue wrote: "I think he would be ok once he got to know other dogs. In his foster home now he gets along with their dog but it has taken a while. He prefers people to other dogs. He is not aggressive, but may growl at something he is not sure about. I have been around him at the events and he just loves to be held and it doesn't matter who - so he is great around people."

Big Brother - Outcome Unknown

Name: Big Brother
Age: Approximately 5 weeks
Breed: Possibly Red Heeler Mix
Sex: Male (not altered)
Location: San Antonio, Texas area

Vet Info: Big Brother has been at the clinic for about two and a half weeks, along with his five siblings. He is suspected to be partially blind, but he is too young to fully evaluate. The vet suspects significant hearing loss as well.He will be vaccinated at 6 weeks of age. He has not yet been heartworm tested but he will be given preventative at 6 weeks of age.

Owner Info: A litter of puppies, possibly red heeler mix, was abandoned at a vet clinic. After de-worming, several of them had seizures due to the heavy worm burden. Since that time, this puppy has not regained his sight and also has partial to complete hearing loss. The staff are going to begin to find homes for his siblings this weekend. They really want to find a good home for Big Brother where he can be cared for by someone knowledgeable about his impairments, otherwise he may be euthanized.

Moochie - Outcome Unknown

Name: Moochie
Age: Estimated 10-12 years
Breed: Shih Tzu?
Sex: Male (not altered)
Location: Miami, FL

Vet Info: Moochie has not been vetted.  He weighs about 20 pounds.

Owner Info: Sweet Moochie was found in a ditch on 4/24 in an empty field by a good samaritan who is not able to keep him.  She is very much hoping for rescue for Moochie!  He is an outdoor dog and does not appear to be housebroken.  She wrote that his paws seem to have been burned and are painful for him to walk on, and he seems to be unable to close his eyes.   He does appear to see shadows but keeps bumping into things.  She checked that he is possessive of food, but has never bitten or snapped since he's been with her.    She says he's very well natured and a very happy boy!  He will even follow voices!

Please read his caregiver's heartfelt email:  "hello i will tell you the story about Moochie! I found him wondering around in an empty field yesterday! He was hiding in a ditch by the time i got to him! Every time i would approach him he was very scared . Thats how i knew that he was blind! I fed him and he started to trust me more and more with each minute! I managed to put the leash around his neck and took him over to my neighbors house! i have 3 dogs  and they would not tolerate him there. I realized that something was wrong with his little paws cause he could barely walk without shaking with every step he took. i gave him a flea and tick bath and cleaned his dry crusty and puss filled eyes! He has a very good nature. He is wagging his tail at all times. His paws look like they have been burned but i am not sure! He appears to be an older male! I think that he is not able to close his eyes all the way! We named him moochie! Cause he likes to give kisses! LOl"

Update 5/2/2014: Moochie is now urgent! He is trying to dig out of the neighbor’s home where he is staying. They are trying to keep ahead of the digging but his good samaritan is very afraid that Moochie will end up loose and be lost again or hurt.

Update 5/25/2014: Moochie has been moved from the neighbor's and is now staying with a friend of the person who found him, but they are unable to keep him and it's not known how long he can stay. Moochie's good samaritan says he's a very sweet boy! He loves people and his tail wags every time he hears voices! He needs his eyes cleaned every day, and also needs daily eye drops. She tells us he has some sight now as he's no longer bumping into things like he was before! He also has a skin condition that she believes is fungal, and she gives him a weekly bath which seems to be helping. He's a very good boy! She tells us he also gets along well with other dogs.

Update 11/19/14: Moochie is still waiting for his new home!  We've heard from his good samaritan, and he's "still running around and being a grumpy old man - lol!"
