Dallas - Staying With Owner

Name: Dallas
Age: Estimated 3 years
Breed: Black Labrador
Sex: Male (altered)
Location: Syracuse, NY area

Vet Info: Dallas is confirmed neutered and is next due for a rabies vaccine in March, 2016. He was due for distemper and parvo vaccines in March, 2014. Dallas had a 4dx test in May, 2014, and he was negative for everything tested. Dallas is diabetic and weighs about 70 pounds. The vet's office commented on what a sweet boy he is!

Owner Info: Dallas is a very handsome boy who was saved from a "neglectful situation". His caregiver was told he would have a home, but it fell through, and she doesn't feel that she's capable of meeting his needs. She has children and they do a lot of traveling, and she's unable to find someone willing to commit to his insulin injections. She also doesn't have the financial means to continue his care and says that he deserves more attention than they're able to give. She's tried friends, relatives, neighbors, and Facebook, but has had no luck finding Dallas a new home. She has had Dallas for two months. She writes that he's partially blind but since he's been with her, it's gotten worse. Dallas is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained. He's a smart boy and knows the commands - up, down, sit, load up! He is good with people of all ages, both male and female dogs, and cats, and lives with dogs and cats now. Dallas is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never bitten or snapped. His caregiver wrote that she thought a good home for Dallas would be with older adults, and gave more details - "he is great with kids but if they get playing he can't really see them so he will start jumping to play but just doesn't really know where things are. He doesn't intentionally hurt them. I also say older adults because they have a tendency to not have as busy lives and Dallas doesn't like to be alone. He rides very well, he just lays on the floor."

Update 8/25/2014: Dallas is not doing well medically so his current owner is going to keep him and take care of him. It is sad news about Dallas, but he is lucky to be able to stay where he is.

Franklin - Adopted

Name: Franklin
Age: 8 years
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Shih Tzu
Location: Near Harrisburg, PA

Vet Info: Franklin is neutered. He is up to date on his rabies and distemper. He is heartworm negative. He has a heart murmur. His lungs are clear. He was last on blood pressure medication in March of 2013. He is blind, with corneal dystrophy, and the pupils are non-responsive.

Owner Info: Franklin is a somewhat hyper and active dog. He's very friendly to adults and older kids. He likes to nip at small children which is why his first owners returned him to the breeder when he was around 6 months old, and then he was adopted by an elderly woman who has had him since. However, she is now in poor health and can no longer care for Franklin, so her daughter-in-law is trying to find a new home for Franklin. He likes to jump up on people. He liked walks and did pretty good on a leash before he went blind. He got used to sleeping in bed with the mother-in-law and watched TV lying next to her on the sofa. He also has gotten a little spoiled when it comes to eating, and likes a mixture of wet and dry dog food in his bowl and got a snack of ice cream every night. The daughter-in-law says that's why he's so chubby! He weighs ten pounds. Franklin can be very aggressive around and toward other dogs. He barks, snarls and growls at them no matter what size they are. The daughter-in-law tried to introduce him to her 4 boxer girls and he tried to attack them through the baby gates she had set up. He has always been like this with other dogs, so needs to be the only dog (he is OK with cats). Franklin is still living in the mother-in-law's house and is being cared for by the daughter-in-law and neighbors. He is housebroken and looking for a new home!

Star Fox - Staying With Owner

Name: Star Fox
Age: 4 years
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Shepherd mix
Location: Northern Georgia

Vet Info: Star Fox is confirmed neutered and weighs 45 pounds. He is about 85% blind according to the vet and can see shadows. He had a dental done in 2012 and he is on Fluoxetine (Prozac). He had his vaccinations at another vet’s office and his owner says he is current with vaccinations but this has not yet been confirmed.

Owner Info: Star Fox is a beautiful shepherd mix whose owner must give him up due to his wife’s recent medical issues. He reports that Star Fox is constantly underfoot and they worry that he will trip her which would worsen her injuries. The owners have had Star Fox since he was one year old after he was abandoned in the neighborhood. The owner feel that he may have been abused as a puppy. He said the vet thinks that he was born with sight but became blind due to abuse. Star Fox is an indoor dog with run of the house; he is housebroken, not leash-trained. He knows the commands go outside and down and he comes when you all him. He is good with men, women, and children, as well as male and female dogs. The owner has three other dogs and a miniature pig. He writes that Star Fox “doesn’t like the pig” and once snapped at him but didn’t break the skin. Star Fox's owner says he is nervous and "likes to be near us." He “will bark at people he doesn’t know” but will adapt to new situations after getting familiar. He is crated when the owners leave and he “has no issues with this.” Star Fox’s owner is very sad to give him up and says he would keep him were it not for his wife’s condition. He writes that “he is healthy, no issues” and “he is very sweet once he gets to know you.”

Chloe - Adopted

Name: Chloe
Age: 3-4 years
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Mixed Breed
Location: Arkansas

Vet Info: The vet has confirmed the spay.

Owner Info: Chloe was originally a foster dog for the eldest member of the local humane society. The member is now 89 years old and is terminally ill due to cancer. He has 3-6 months to live. He does have a caretaker who owns dogs, but she cares nothing about his dogs. Chloe has been moved to a kennel off his property where she is alone and she is becoming depressed after being with other dogs for several years. Chloe is a very sweet girl who loves to get as close as possible to people when they come to see her. She will nuzzle up under their chin. Chloe is partially blind after a bout with blastomycosis. She is blind in her right eye. After developing blastomycosis, she lost a lot of weight, so she is currently underweight. Also her depression is not helping the situation at all. She weighs about 30 pounds. She is not housebroken but does well on a leash without pulling, and is very obedient. She gets along with people of all ages and with dogs. She is so lonely, and very much wants a home and love!

Update 8/25/2014: Chloe has had a bit of a rough time over the past month - she redeveloped blastomycosis but she is getting the medical care she needs and is slowly improving. She needs a loving forever home with someone who can give her the love and attention can care she deserves!

Update 10/3/14: Chloe is doing SO much better and is playful and running now. In two weeks I will be taking her to the vet to see if she might be able to stop taking the medications for the blastomycosis. He told me she may never be able to stop the meds, but I'm keeping my paws crossed. She is still blind in her right eye, but she is loving life now.

Name: Babydoll
Age: 2 years

Vet Info: Babydoll was spayed on May 20th. The vet said the owner brought in a medical history that showed Babydoll got a one year rabies shot on April 21, 2014. Babydoll has atrophy/scarring of the globe of her left eye (probably from an injury) and has normal vision in her right.

Owner Info: Babydoll became a stray after her owner was incarcerated, and a local rescue took her in, but the rescue is out of room and so Babydoll needs a new home! She weighs 35 pounds. She gets along with all people and cats and dogs. She is housebroken and leash trained. She understands the command: go outside. It seems like Babydoll might have been mistreated in the past, as she shakes and runs whenever someone gets out a broom to sweep. She is a wonderful dog, looking for a wonderful home!
