Alvin and Theo - In Foster Care

Names: Alvin and Theo
Ages: 2 months
Sex: Males (not altered)
Breed: Terrier/Shepherd Mixes
Location: Alpharetta, GA area

Vet Info: Alvin's and Theo's caregiver writes they've received their first vaccine on January 23rd, and they've been dewormed.  Theo weighs about 6 pounds and Alvin weighs about 7 pounds.

Owner Info: DOB 11/27/14. Alvin and Theo are from a litter of puppies that were abandoned by their owner at one day old.  A neighbor brought them to an ER vet hospital, and a wonderful vet tech took them home and bottle-raised them.  Once their vision problems became apparent, their potential adopters were no longer interested. The vet tech is not able to keep the puppies, and she is hoping for rescue!  She lives in an apartment where she's only allowed two pets, and she already has other pets. Alvin and Theo are indoor dogs confined to one area of the house, they are not housebroken or leash trained.  They are good with men and women and other dogs and cats!  They have never bitten or snapped, but can tussle with littermates at meal time - the normal puppy tussles!  They seem to have limited vision (can't see well at distance) but can locate well by sound.  Other than that, they're healthy puppies!  They are very mobile and playful and love people.

Update 2/15/2015: We got this update from Alvin's and Theo's caregiver and she is becoming desperate:

The  boys are good, but my apartment manager wants me to have them out by the end of the month. My neighbors have complained a bit about they noise they make at night. Because I work overnights, they are a little backwards. On my nights off they tend to want to play at 2-3am. I have also gotten to the point where I can't really manage four dogs and two cats in a 700 square foot apartment.

Toby - Staying With Owner

Name: Toby
Age: Approximately 9 years
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Pit Bull/Boxer Mix
Location: Los Angeles, CA

Vet Info: Toby is neutered. He has not yet had shots because of his health issues (see Owner Info below).

Owner Info: The current owner wrote: "I found Toby as a stray on the streets of south Los Angeles. I decided to take on the responsibility of his medical needs instead of dropping him off at a shelter where he would surely meet his demise. I have 2 large dogs of my own, so keeping Toby is not an option for me. I want Toby to find his own home where he will be loved and cared for." Right now he is at a vet hospital, getting the medical care that he needs. When asked if Toby has been aggressive, his current owner wrote: "NO... in the past 5 days since we found Toby he has been poked and examined and bathed. He has taken everything like a champ and does not mind being touched anywhere. We have cleaned his ears, looked in his mouth, touched his paws and even scrubbed the crust out of his infected eyes which must be very painful. Yet he just sits there and allows us to do it.Toby seems relaxed and not the least bit nervous about going from the streets to a vet hospital. He's not thrilled about living in a cage, but he sleeps most of the time. He still has some vision in his right eye. He will watch a person or dog walk past. But he still walks into walls and doors. He has trouble walking so he moves very slowly." His current owner described his medical condition, including his vision, as follows: "Toby's left eyeball is swollen and looks like a blue marble. There is no pupil or iris. It oozes yellow pus. The vet will remove the left eye once Toby is stable enough for surgery. There is no vision at all in the left. Toby's right eye has some vision. There is a small mass on the right eye lid which will be removed. The right eye also oozes yellow pus, but antibiotics are working to treat that. The vet said the right eye will stay, but they do not know how much vision he actually has out of that eye.Toby is extremely emaciated right now. His appetite is ravenous so we are feeling hopeful that he will start putting on weight soon. His kidneys were failing when he first came off the streets and he was barely able to walk. After only 2 days of IV's Toby's condition as improved and the IV was removed. He still has trouble walking as he has very little muscles mass in his legs, but his ability to walk is improving daily. Toby also has a slight heart murmur. He had an infection in his mouth where a tooth had fallen out, but that is being flushed and should heal nicely. Toby has calluses on his elbows from sleeping on sidewalks. His toenails were extremely long and have been cut. Toby is a fighter and we are encouraged that he will continue to improve." Right now he weighs 38 pounds and is very thin. He is housebroken. Tony's current owner also shared this information about Toby: "Toby has been excellent with all the vet staff, with myself and with my husband. He has not been tested with young children, but he is so calm that I do not see that there would be an issue. Of course, it is difficult for me to evaluate his personality since he is in pain and is very weak. Toby has not been introduced face to face with another dog, but when other dogs walk past him, he has no reaction. I have never witnessed Toby in the presence of a cat. Toby absolutely loves to sunbathe and roll in the grass."

Bailey - Adopted

Name: Bailey
Age: 13 years
Breed: German Shepherd / Chow Chow
Sex: Female (altered per owner, but vet's office is not able to confirm)
Location: Philadelphia area

Vet Info: Bailey is spayed per owner, but this is not confirmed.  Bailey's owner says that Bailey does have a spay scar.  Bailey is up to date on vaccines and is next due for her rabies vaccine in August, 2016.  She weighs about 65 pounds.

Owner Info: Bailey is a gorgeous girl whose owner is moving by the end of February and can't take her.  She is very much hoping for rescue for sweet Bailey!  Bailey's owner has tried many adoption services in PA but has not been able to find rescue for her. Bailey was abandoned by her previous owner three years ago and her current owner took her in right after that.  Her current owner writes that Bailey has been her service dog for the past three years!  Bailey has cataracts in both eyes.  Her owner says that she can see, "but can't do distance very well."  She also has fatty lumps, but her owner writes they're nothing to be worried about. Bailey is an indoor dog with run of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained.  She knows several commands including Paw, Sit, Stay, Come, Speak, Down, and Crate!  She's good with people of all ages and with cats.  We asked for more information on how Bailey is with other dogs, and her owner wrote, "Bailey was living with a friend of mine for a little while before I took her in my friend has horses and dogs of her own but her dogs were older so I don't know how she is with young dogs."  Bailey's owner also wrote that if other dogs don't get into her face, she'll be fine! Bailey is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never shown any aggression.  She adapts well to new situations and even moved from AZ to PA with her current owner.

Banner - Adopted

Name: Banner
Age: 8 years
Breed: Pit Bull
Sex:  Female (altered)
Location: South Central PA (Hagerstown, MD area)

Vet Info: Banner is heartworm negative per her owner, but this has not been confirmed.  Banner has been spayed according to her vet. Banner is not up to date on vaccines and she weighs around 60 pounds.

Owner Info: DOB 6/23/06. Banner is a gorgeous girl whose owner recently went through a divorce and had to sell her home.  She was able to place Banner in a new home, but the couple decided they didn't want the responsibility of caring for Banner anymore because they said she was getting into the trash.  Banner's owner is now renting and is not allowed to have pit bulls in her apartment.  She is not able to keep Banner for long and she is desperately hoping for rescue.  She has tried several other rescues and reaching out to friends and family with no luck. Banner is an indoor dog who is crated, she is housebroken and leash trained.  She knows the commands Sit and Paw!  Banner is a friendly girl and is good with people of all ages and both male and female dogs.  She's never been around cats before or other small animals so her owner is not sure how she would react to them. She may do okay with them. She is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never shown aggression.  Banner was diagnosed with SARD about four years ago and is completely blind.  Her owner writes that she does well adapting, but does run into things, which is to be expected.  She also tells us that other than being blind, Banner is in very good health, and that's why she would rather have someone foster or adopt her instead of bringing her to a shelter.

Update 1/21/2015: The OS team has just learned that Banner's owner's landlord said she has to be gone THIS WEEKEND!  “My landlord said that she has to be gone this weekend.  I'm hoping to have some luck with some of your members being able to take her.”

Update 1/25/2015: We received this update from Banner's owner - please continue to reach out to your contacts on Banner's behalf!

We checked in at a local no kill shelter that said they would have taken her but they just had a litter of puppies dropped off. They told us to call back tomorrow after the lady talks to the kennel manager and they still may be able to take her. This isn't really what I want for her but they said they would not put her down and have a dog that has been there for over 4 years. I don't want to keep her too much longer as my landlord I'm sure will be unhappy if they realize she is still here. That would be great if you could continue posting her.

No Name Puppies - Staying With Owner

Names: Dog 1 and Dog 2
Age: 3 months
Breed: Australian Shepherd
Sex: Male (not altered)
Location: Northwest NJ

Vet Info: Both puppies are up to date on vaccines per their owner but this has not yet been confirmed.  Each pup weighs about 16 pounds.

Owner Info: DOB 10/22/14. These two adorable puppies are in need of rescue!  They were bred by their owners but their owners cannot keep them.  They are also very worried for the pups' safety as they live on a large farm with ponds, woods, and farm equipment and all of the dogs have free range of the farm when out.  Their owners write, "We bred two Aussies and these two dogs ended up with the double Merle trait resulting in dog 1 (with the tail) being completely blind and deaf and dog 2 (with the one eye) in being completely deaf and partially blind. These puppies were born October 22nd and since then have been getting all necessary vet care including shots. They are very playful and enjoyable to be around but our farm is over 100 acres with many ponds, woods, farm equipment and some mountains with rough terrain. Currently at the farm we have other dogs that move as a pack and have free range of the farm when out. My family and I feel these dogs would need care and constant supervision that we simply cannot provide due to the surroundings. We want a happy life for these dogs and would hate to see something happen because of the layout of our property." The puppies are indoor dogs who are crated.  They are not yet housebroken, but are leash trained.  Their owners describe them as outgoing, and they are good with people of all ages!  They live with many other animals including horses, other dogs, goats, chickens and cats, and are good with all.  Their owner also writes that they have a two-year old, and the puppies "play and jump a bit, they have never gotten aggressive or bitten her. They are very well tempered."  The puppies are not possessive of toys, treats, or food and have never bitten or snapped.  Other than their vision and hearing, their owner says they are healthy!  "They eat and play and love people and animals. We're just worried about their well being here. The sooner they can be rehomed the better for their overall safety."

Spirit - Outcome Unknown

Name: Spirit
Age: 8-10 years
Sex: Female (not altered)
Breed: Chow or Chow Mix
Location: South Carolina

Vet Info: Not available - this dog was a stray and the current owner can't afford to take her to the vet.

Owner Info: The current owner wrote: "I picked up this poor baby from the side of the road last Saturday night after almost being hit by car and she was dragging a chain. I noticed she seemed hard of hearing, if not almost deaf. After a few days of being in a makeshift shelter in my yard, I brought her inside as the temperature was going to be in teens.I realized she was mostly blind when she had a lot of trouble going up porch steps the first time (now she is pretty good on them). I can't keep her as she doesn't seem cat friendly, and I have rescued cats inside and feral cats outside that have claimed me as home. She is in a 12 ft hallway now since that's the only place she can safely be in my cluttered home." Spirit weighs about 40 pounds. She is not spayed. She is housetrained but not leash trained. The current owner does not know how she would be with other dogs. Spirit does run into things in the house. The current owner wrote: "Spirit is a sweet dog and deserves to be pampered for the rest of her life after being on a chain and outside probably for all of her past life."
