Easy - Outcome Unknown

Age: Approximately 1 year

Breed: Hound mix

Location: Louisiana

Vet Info: Easy is confirmed spayed and up to date on vaccines. She is next due in April.  She is microchipped.  She was too young for a heartworm test but is on preventative.Easy is completely blind and her caregiver writes that the vet is not sure of the reason for her blindness but it could possibly be from a chemical accident or done with intent. Vascular tissue covers both eyes and one eye is shrunken. Easy weighs about 50 pounds.

Owner Info: Easy is a beautiful young hound mix who was found in a dich and surrendered to a rescuer who is now looking for a loving home for her. She was adopted out once already but returned because the resident dog attacked her. Her rescuer no longer wants to adopt her out to inexperienced handlers. Easy’s current caregiver is a rescuer and boarder and has dogs and cats coming and going daily and Easy needs consistency.

Easy is an indoor dog who is crated. She is housebroken and leash-trained. She knows commands, sit, stay, and leave it. Easy is outgoing but has also become nervous and anxious.

Easy’s caregiver told us that since she has been back after being returned, she now is more easily frightened and has bitten other dogs out of fear.  They were not serious bites but her caregiver says, “with boarding animals I cannot risk even minor bites”. She also shows signs of anxiety and depression such as excessive salivating, whimpering, and pacing in the crate. Easy’s caregiver says this is due to the stress of having strange people and dogs in the home all the time. Easy has been started on anti-anxiety meds. Otherwise, her caregiver says Easy adapts well to new situations an places. She says she is an awesome dog and “the most affectionate dog I’ve ever seen.” 

Champ - In BDRA Foster Care

Name: Champ

Age: Approximately 1 year

Breed: Lab Mix

Sex: Male (altered)

Location: Greenville, SC

Vet Info: He is confirmed early heart worm positive.  He has not been neutered but is in good health. The shelter vet has determined that Champ is blind. He weighs 32lbs.

Owner Info: Champ is a handsome lab mix who is about 1 year old. He is currently in a Greenville, SC shelter that is high kill.  Champ has been in the shelter for a week and has very little time left before he is PTS.  Champ’s rescuer has been trying to find placement through various rescues.  

Bob - Outcome Unknown

Name: Bob

Age: 3 years

Breed: Boxer

Sex: Male (not altered)

Location: Carrolton, VA

Vet Info: Bob is not neutered or up to date on vaccinations. He also has not been tested for heartworm. He is approximately 65 lbs. 

Owner Info: Bob is a very friendly, loving dog is a sweet dog who adapts well to new situations and is good with both men and women, kids and other pets. His owner writes, " he is extremely loving and does not know a stranger. He gets along with kids and other dogs."

Bob is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house. He is housebroken and leash-trained. He also knows some commands like 'sit' and 'down.' He isn't possessive over treats, toys or food and hasn't shown aggression towards people or animals. 

Bob's owner wishes they could keep him but between his long work hours and financial situation, they really feel he would do better with a new, loving family that can give him everything he deserves. This guy needs another chance. Take a look at his photo! That face says it all!

Timmy - Outcome Unknown

Name: Timmy

Age: 8 years

Breed: Wire Fox Terrier

Sex: Male (not altered)

Location: Lakebay, WA

Vet Info: Timmy is not neutered or up to date on vaccinations. He also has not been tested for heartworm. He is approximately 30 lbs. 

Owner Info: Timmy is a sweet, playful and social dog who adapts well to new situations and is good with both men and women, kids and other pets. His owner writes, "he loves playing with other dogs and children."

Timmy is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house. He is housebroken and leash-trained. He isn't possessive over treats, toys or food. His owner feels he is in good health overall. 

Timmy's owner tells us, "Timmy is so sweet and loving and we really don't want to adopt him out. I had people to watch him during the day, but my situation has changed and I no longer have anyone to watch him ....I'm away for long periods of time with work and he has to be kenneled....or would wander off...it seems more humane to find him a new home...he loves everyone and all animals..."

Timmy is an outgoing, older gentlemen who only wants a second chance and a family who wants to give that to him! 

Hooper - Outcome Unknown

Name: Hooper

Age: 9 years (estimated)

Breed:    Labrador Retriever

Sex: Male (altered)

Location: Atlanta, GA

Vet Info: Hooper is confirmed neutered and up to date on vaccines.  He is heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative.  Hooper weighs about 90 pounds.

Owner Info: Hooper is a very handsome fellow who was rescued from a rural county shelter in July.  His rescuer has Labs and experience with blind dogs, and couldn't leave him at the shelter.  She would keep him, but her Chocolate Lab is afraid of Hooper, and Hooper is now reactive towards him.  Her Lab hides in the bedroom all the time.  She is very much hoping we'll have a place for Hooper.

Hooper is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained.  Hooper is a smart fellow, and his owner tells us, "He has been completely housebroken since the moment he arrived. I have a dog door that has stairs down to the patio and he figured it out and uses it."  Hooper also knows the commands, Sit and Lie Down.  

Hooper is described as outgoing, and is good with people of all ages, male and female dogs, and cats.  "He is interested in the cats, and gets a little mouthy but they just move and he can't find them. He doesn't actively hunt them."  

Hooper is not possessive with toys, treats or food, and the only aggression he's ever shown is to her Chocolate Lab.  She writes that her Lab "didn't really take to him and would growl and Hooper got reactive. But that's the only situation. I just took in my father and his Chihuahua and Hooper was very interested but wasn't aggressive or anything.   I took Hooper to our local farmer's market and kids came over to pet him and he met some friendly dogs and he was just great."  Hooper has never bitten or snapped.

Hooper's owner tells us he adapts well to new situations.  "He's careful but not super timid. Once he's got the environment he moves confidently."

Hooper is completely blind, and her vet said it was most likely detached retinas.  He is in no pain.  Other than a few little lipomas, as expected for a Lab his age, Hooper is in good health.  His owner writes,  "His hips seem fine. He teeth were in very good shape and he was neutered. This dog was obviously loved, well socialized, and raised indoors."

She wants us to know what a very special fellow Hooper is!  "He is just awesome. Sweet, loves attention, rides well in the car, loves to swim - all the usual Labby stuff."

Thunder - Staying With Owner

Age: 7 months

Breed: Australian Shepherd

Sex: Male (not altered)

Location: Lafayette, LA

Vet Info: Thunder is not neutered, but is up to date on vaccines.  He is next due for the rabies, distemper, and Lepto vaccines in August, 2016.  Thunder has not had a recent heartworm test.  Thunder weighs about 50 pounds.

Owner Info: Thunder is an adorable puppy whose owner tells us Thunder needs more attention than he can give.  He's contacted other rescues, but no one has had a place for Thunder.  He is very much hoping we can help.

Thunder has cataracts and is partially blind.  Other than that, his owner tells us he is very healthy.

Thunder is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard.  He is not housebroken, but is leashed trained.  Thunder is a very friendly and loving fellow, and is good with people of all ages, male and female dogs, and cats.  He is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has never shown any aggression.  Thunder's owner tells us he feels Thunder adapts well to new situations.

Thunder's owner is hoping we will have a place for Thunder!  He writes, "Please help find a home.  Thunder is very playful and funny".  

Muttsey - Adopted

Name: Muttsey

Age: 14 years

Breed: Poodle

Sex: Female (altered)

Location: Charlotte, NC

Vet Info: Muttsey is confirmed spayed and up to date on vaccines.  She is next due for the rabies vaccine in July, 2018.  She is heartworm negative.  Muttsey weighs about 9 pounds.  Her owner tells us that her health is excellent.  

Owner Info: Muttsey is an adorable little girl whose owner has a new home and new wife, and is no longer able to care for her.  Muttsey belonged to his first wife who died seven years ago.  Muttsey has cataracts in both eyes and "loss of hearing".   Her owner writes that he believes she has no vision in one eye and limited vision in the other.  "Sees better far away than up close."  He also tells us that she is a picky eater, and sleeps in her kennel.

Her owner had found a new home for her, but she was returned because her new owner "did not know how to "adapt" to a needy pet."  He has also tried asking his dog sitters and poodle rescues, with no luck.

Muttsey is an indoor dog who is crated and is housebroken.  She can walk on a leash, but is not trained to follow commands.  Muttsey is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has not shown any aggression.  She is good with both men and women.   She doesn't live with any other pets, so we asked her owner if he knew how she was with other dogs.  He wrote, "Muttsey has stayed with 2 local dog sitters over the years.  One sits 2 or 3 dogs (small) at the same time so Ms. M has learned to socialize with other dogs in that setting.  The other sitter has 2 yorkies who Ms. M trained (when they were pups) to be good or bad depending on your viewpoint!!!!  The owner’s children have dogs (large) so she has been around them as well.  After the usual “hello” she ignores them and let’s them know she is the queen and leave her alone.  They usually do.  There have never been any “fights”.   When I walk her, she will say hi to another walking dog if the dog doesn’t bark at her.  But basically is content to be with me.  She has been around cats and typically ignores them unless cat approaches and wants to “smell” – then she might smell back."

Muttsey's owner also shared a story written from her perspective that we've posted below, with names removed:

My original parents died of old age when I was but 2 years young.  I am only 14 now.  B (wife) and B (husband) adopted me all the way from Canada. I was very lucky and happy even though my favorite was B (wife) - you could say I was her dog and B (husband) put up with me.   I have to admit I was spoiled and had the run of the house even though I was kennel trained.  I had fenced in backyard but didn’t like to use the doggy door so they had to let me in and out when I needed to use the back yard.   Once night I even got to chase a deer through my neighborhood – that was fun but he jumped a creek and I wouldn’t get me feet wet so I stopped. Then B (wife) died suddenly when I was 8 and I was left alone with B (husband).  But he stepped up to the plate and has taken very good care of me even though I do cause him to find a baby sitter when he travels - I do not like to be left in a kennel because I am spoiled.  So he found three homes who would keep me when he was on the road.  I could say I have four homes but B is the best and the other three cannot keep me on a full time basis.  Thanks to the dog sitters, I have learned to be around other dogs and occasional cat.  B takes me to the vet two times every year.  I do not like it but he has made sure I am a healthy dog.  Regardless I have developed cataracts in both eyes and have lost most of my hearing.  But I still have lots of energy and love to go on walks and can run and twirl with happiness when B returns home even after just a few hours at work.  I am a picky eater and know I can be a bother when I demand attention and want to be petted but that is why I exist!    Sometime B takes me on long trips and I ride patiently and get to walk at rest halts where there are PLENTY of new smells for me to explore and then off we go again.  Weather permitting B even takes me on short trips when he goes to the store.   But alas B has new work and a new life in a new house which I do not like and he knows it.  So he is looking for a new home for me where I can be a good companion to my new parent(s).   I have not been around kids - I just "kind-of" tolerate them even though they love me to death.  I have never snapped at anyone and love B showing me off to people.   I enjoy traipsing through the airport when we have to pick up visitors.  Even though I can be demanding I am a good and loving and appreciative companion.  I will miss B but please adopt me.
