Name: Champ
Age: 3 years
Breed: Hound / Pit Mix
Sex: Male (confirmed
neutered)
Location: Rochester, NY
area
Vet Info: Champ
is confirmed neutered. He is up to date on vaccines, and received a
one-year rabies vaccine on 4/17/15. He has not had a recent heartworm
test. Champ weighs about 45 pounds and is microchipped.
Owner Info: DOB 4/11/2012. Champ
is a very handsome and sweet fellow who was adopted from a local shelter by a
trainer who volunteers there in order to save him from euthanasia. She
adopted him with the intention of rehoming him, and is now looking for Champ's
new home or rescue! Champ is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is
housebroken and leash trained. He knows the commands, Sit, Down, and
Off! She is also working on obedience training with Champ. Champ is
a friendly fellow, and is good with people of all ages and both male and female
dogs. He currently lives with several other dogs. Champ is not
possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has never bitten or snapped.
Champ's caregiver feels he adapts well to new situations, and writes, "Champ
has been with us for a month now and has adapted quite well in our home. We are
a multiple dog household with many that come and go for sitting services. He
has had no issues with any of our resident or visiting dogs." Champ
will be seeing the ophthalmologist to determine if any sight can be
restored. His caregiver gave us more details: "Champ was a
stray in the area and AC picked him up. It was unknown why he was blind (his
right eye is completely gone). He has been seen by my regular vet and he feels
that the blindness is a result of blunt force trauma. The left eye has a
luxated lens. We are going to an opthamologist on May 20th to see if sight can
be repaired in his remaining left eye." Champ is now doing well and is
healthy other than his blindness. His caregiver tells us that, "Champ
is on holistic support as he was in rough shape (dermatitis). He is taking
support for his immune system (coconut oil, pumpkin, spirulina, echinacea). He
had ears infection which have been treated. He is in good overall health
otherwise. He has also continued to gain weight as he was somewhat thin."
Champ may not have had such a great start in life, but he is hoping for his
happy ending!
Update 5/22/15: Champ's caregiver has taken him to the
ophthalmologist, but his sight is not able to be restored. We took Champ to see about possibly
restoring the sight in his one eye. Unfortunately that is just not to be. The
retina is destroyed not just the lens. He is in no pain. What he can't see with his eyes he sees
with his heart!
