Oren - Adopted

Name: Oren
Age: 6 years
Sex: Female (altered per owners, not yet confirmed)
Breed: Basset/Husky Mix
Location: Parker, AZ

Vet Info: Oren is spayed per her owners, but this is not yet confirmed. She is not yet up to date on vaccines. Oren weighs 100 pounds.

Owner Info: Oren is a beautiful girl in need of rescue! Her owners and caregivers love her dearly and have made the very difficult decision to try to find Oren rescue. She is currently living with her owners' parents because her owners have just had a baby and they're worried that with Oren's size, there may be difficulties when the baby starts crawling. Unfortunately, Oren's caregivers are unable to keep her long-term as they have a special needs dog with anxiety issues, and their dog is having a tough time with another dog in the house. They are currently kept separated. If another dog is aggressive or snaps at Oren, she may snap back, but she has NEVER shown any aggression or snapped at a human. Oren is a smart girl and knows several commands, including Come, Sit, Stay, and No. She even learned the layout of her new house in one day, including the stairs! Oren's caregivers write: "Oren is a blind, 6 year old, Basset/Husky mix. She got Glaucoma as a pup and had to have her eyes removed. She looks like a blonde Basset with a furry coat and curled tail. Oren weighs 100 pounds and is very low to the ground however is quite active, loves to explore and is in great health. She has been socialized with other dogs and cats and has little problem adapting to new friends. Oren likes men and women equally and is great with larger children. We recommend larger because Oren likes to “happy jump” and play and she is too large for little ones. She is doggy door trained and needs a secure yard. She loves walks and car rides. We keep her shaved because she has a thick, layered coat. She is a happy, smart, sweet girl who learns quickly and people often have no idea that she is blind until told. She deserves a forever family to love because she has so much to give." Oren's caregivers have offered to help pay for her transport if rescue is found for her that is not local.

Addison - In Foster Care

Name: Addison
Age: Estimated 1 year
Sex: Female (not altered)
Breed: Mini Australian Shepherd
Location: Greenwood, SC area

Vet Info: Addison has not been vetted and is not spayed. She weighs about 20 pounds.

Owner Info: Addison is a beautiful deaf and blind girl who was rescued from a breeder who could not sell her. She had been living in a pen for over a year. Her caregiver is hoping to find rescue for Addison so that she can have the home she deserves! Addison is an indoor dog with run of the house, and is doing a good job learning about being housebroken! Her caregiver writes, "she has only been out of the pen at the breeders and in my house for 3 days so can't really say that she is. But she has not had any accidents. So far so good on house breaking." She is also leash trained. Her caregiver describes Addison's left eye as appearing normal, is blue, and may have some limited sight. Her right eye is somewhat sunken and is completely blind. Other than her eyes, her caregiver says that she seems overall healthy! Addison is good with women and children, and currently lives with three other dogs and two cats. Addison has bonded "tightly" with her caregiver, and her caregiver gave us more details about Addison: "Although my husband lives here of course, he really hasn't interacted with her. She did "lose me" this morning while we were getting ready for work and he was standing at the sink and she went and laid at his feet so I don't think she would have a problem with a male. As for male dogs we have an outside male that she is ok with, but the dog she growls at is female. When I take them outside she is fine with her, plays and interacts so it's almost like a possessive thing over me. I also will add that she has separation anxiety. She has not been destructive but gets extremely agitated and will bark when left alone I am going to work on this." Addison is possessive of toys, treats, or food, but has never bitten or snapped. Her caregiver notes that she may have a harder time adjusting to new situations as she is deaf and blind and new things upset her, but said she's done extremely well in adjusting to living in a house after living in a pen!

Polly - Staying With Owner

Name: Polly
Age: Estimated 3 years
Breed: Bulldog Mix
Sex: Female (altered)
Location: Palmdale, CA

Owner Info: Polly is a beautiful and sweet girl who was rescued from a sanctuary that had to close.  She is now very much hoping for a home of her own!  Polly is completely blind due to cataracts.  She is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard, she is housebroken and leash trained.  Polly is a smart girl, and in just a few days, she's learned the command stop!  Polly is good with men, women and teenagers, but due to her size, she would not be recommended to a home with younger children.  She is not possessive of toys, treats, or food.  Polly's caregiver has been told by the sanctuary that she does not like cats and her caregiver keeps her away from her other dogs as she's afraid there may be a misunderstanding due to Polly's blindness.  Her caregiver writes, "Considering that Polly is blind I prefer not putting her together with my dogs, she has been with my dogs gate to gate, and there is not aggression, but my dogs are territorial.  I have taken her on walks down the block and to parks and she has not shown aggression."  Other than her blindness, we're told she is very healthy, but overweight.  Her caregiver says that she's a very loving dog and deserves a home of her own!

Update 6/15/14: Sweet Polly is still looking for a new home! She is doing very well and has lots of love to share!

Buddy - Adopted

Name: Buddy
Age: 16 months
Breed: Beagle
Sex: Male (altered)
Location:  Jackson, TN area

Vet Info: Buddy is confirmed neutered and up to date on his rabies vaccine.  His next rabies vaccine is due in October, 2014.  His caregiver administered his other vaccines.  Buddy weighs about 50 pounds.

Owner Info: Buddy was saved from a local shelter right before he was to be euthanized.  His caregiver brought him home and says he has such a loving and sweet personality!  She knows his forever family is out there somewhere. Buddy is an indoor dog who is crated, he is housebroken and leash trained.  He also comes when he is called!  Buddy is a friendly fellow, and he's good with people of all ages and both male and female dogs and cats.  He currently lives with two other dogs and three cats!  Buddy is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has never bitten or snapped.  His caregiver writes, "This dog has showed absolutely no aggression toward any animal or person no matter what the circumstance. He is the most non-aggressive, laid back dog I have ever gotten to know. He is not possessive over his food or his toys or anything. He doesn't even show fear when I accidentally startle him when he's asleep or I sneak up on him."   She says that Buddy has adapted amazingly well.  "Buddy adapts to all situations with such gusto and inspiration. No matter if it's learning to ride in the car, visiting the kids I work with in a noisy chaotic environment or learning to walk a new set of steps. He absolutely looks forward to every new experience and is so brave about everything he encounters. It's amazing to watch him".  His caregiver also notes that Buddy is completely blind.  He was examined at the University of Tennessee Veterinary Teaching Hospital, and they concluded, "Both the retinas in each eye are completely detached and the nerves are detached and dead."  He doesn't have obvious trauma, so it's likely that he was born this way.  They also noted that "he would never need any surgeries or additional medical treatment outside of injuries because of his condition". His caregiver wanted us to know how special Buddy is.  "This is an exceptionally sweet and lovable dog. He has been an absolute inspiration to me since I've had him watching how brave he is as he navigates his dark world. He will follow me around my house from room to room and never let me get over 10 feet away. I walk him on a leash twice a day and you wouldn't think for a second he was blind to see him walking. He has a lot of confidence in himself. He is a beautiful dog with striking colors. It really means a lot to me that I find him the perfect home for his needs and personality."
