Martha - In Foster Care


Name: Martha
Age: 1 year
Breed: Great Dane
Sex: Female (not altered)
Location: Harrisburg, PA

Vet Info: Martha is not spayed and has not had a recent heartworm test. Martha is up to date on her vaccines and received a three-year rabies vaccine on 8/13/13. She received her distemper vaccine on the same day. Martha weighs 100 pounds. She is a double merle Great Dane and her owners write that she is completely deaf and partially blind. 

Owner Info: Martha is a gorgeous and loving girl whose owners are unable to keep her. They write, "Due to a break up and severe financial difficulties we have to move asap." Another rescue did come to meet Martha, but she is scared of new people and "didn't give the best impression". They saved Martha from a breeder who wanted to put her down. They have had Martha since she was 8 weeks old. She is an indoor dog who is crated, she is housebroken and leash trained. Martha is good with both male and female dogs but can be nervous and shy around people. Her owners write, "She is scared of new people and mostly ignores them, but if someone comes up behind her she gets scared and she has snapped at people". Martha has never bitten anyone. Martha's owners want us to know she is funny and loving and she loves the dog park and going for walks!! 


Update 6/10/2014: We've heard from Martha's owner, and she believes she'll have about three weeks before she has to move. We've also confirmed Martha is up to date on her rabies and distemper vaccines.

Hope - In Foster Care


Name: Hope
Age: 6-7 months
Sex: Female (not altered)
Breed: Shih Tzu
Location: Northwestern South Carolina

Vet Info: Hope has not seen a vet since her good samaritan saved her. She weighs about 5 pounds and is not spayed. Her owner writes, “Right eye not visable and left is blue, maybe cataract?”

Owner Info: Hope is an adorable Shih Tzu puppy who was recently found as a stray along with a Chihuahua. She is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard; not house-broken or leash-trained. Her owner indicated that she is good with men, women, and kids, as well as cats and other small animals. She has not shown any aggression towards anyone and her owner says she is, “Very sweet, rag doll when held, loving and playful!” In three weeks she has learned her name and comes to her owner when she claps. Her owner also says “She is very humble and sweet. She is a baby and a great lap dog. She could be a therapy dog for a retirement home.

Emilio - Staying With Owner


Name: Emilio
Age: 5 years
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Chihuahua Mix
Location: Los Angeles, CA

Vet Info: Emilio is neutered and up to date on his shots.

Owner Info: Emilio is about five years old and weighs 22 pounds. His current owner found Emilio (he was a stray) and turned him into her local shelter because he had a chip. However, his owner never picked him up, so his current owner decided to bring him to her home. Emilio is an indoor dog who is housebroken and leashtrained. He is good with adults but can be aggressive toward other dogs. His current owner wrote: "He shows aggression towards my dogs. If they get close to him or try to play with him, he growls and snaps. He bit one of my dogs and broke the skin. I believe he has trouble with big dogs. At the shelter, there was another Chihuahua and Emilio wanted to play with him and he was not aggressive at all." She said the vet said that Emilio is completely blind although does not have cataracts. She said the vet commented that Emilio is very healthy and does have a low grade heart murmur. His current owner said that Emilio adjusts well to new places and is "a really good dog."

Wendy - Staying With Owner

 

Name: Wendy
Age: Estimated 5 months
Sex: Female (not altered)
Breed: Aussie Mix?
Location: Macon, GA

Vet Info: Wendy received a one year rabies vaccine on 6/4/14 and her first distemper/parvo booster. She was also dewormed. Wendy weighs 20 pounds but needs to gain weight.

Owner Info: Wendy is an adorable puppy who was found as a stray on a busy highway. She was taken in by a good samaritan who is very much hoping to find her rescue! Wendy is an indoor dog who is crated, she is housebroken and learned to walk on a leash in only a few days! And she already knows Sit! Wendy is a friendly little girl, and is good with people of all ages, male and female dogs, and cats. She is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never shown any aggression. Wendy appears completely blind, and the good samaritan's vet felt her blindness was caused by trauma, possibly a car accident. Her good samaritan writes that Wendy is a "sweet, gentle and loving pup" and a "lovebug!"

Sapphire - In Memory


Name: Sapphire
Age: 6 years
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Yorkshire terrier
Location: Maryland, near Washington, DC

Vet Info: Sapphire is current with vaccines and is heartworm negative. She was diagnosed as having no vision in her left eye and slight peripheral vision in the right eye. Her vision issues are due to glaucoma. She was prescribed drops for both eyes in March. Sapphire weighs 15 pounds.

Owner Info: Sapphire is a Yorkshire terrier who has gone blind and is having a hard time adapting. She is an indoor dog with run of the house, housebroken and leash-trained. She has not had formal training but knows the commands, sit, down, and stay. She is bonded to her owner and mostly ignores the rest of the family. She has shown aggression toward other dogs and people, especially children. The owner writes, “she snapped at my young nephew (7years old) once and the snap resulted in a scratch on my nephew's nose.” Her owner says, "Our Yorkie began going blind over 3 months ago. She is now so visually impaired that our family is unable to provide her the requisite care she needs due to her impairment. We would rather see her rehomed with someone who can properly care for her in her current state than to have her put down".

Sadie - In BDRA Foster Care

Breed: American Bulldog
Sex: Female (not altered)
Location: Georgia

Vet Info: Sadie weighs 6 pounds. She has not been vetted but her owners write she is healthy. 

Owner Info: Sadie's owners are breeders and Sadie was recently born in the litter. Sadie's owners write, "She is a beautiful and healthy female American bulldog. Nothing is wrong other than she is blind." She is not housebroken or leash trained, and gets along with everybody! She has never shown any aggression. Her owners tell us, "She is a young pup. She shows all her emotions with her tail. She is a happy little puppy and very beautiful. Just wanting to find a wonderful and caring home for her."  

Jack - In Foster Care


Name: Jack
Age: 5 ½ years
Breed: Cairn Terrier
Sex: Male (altered)
Location: San Diego, CA area

Vet Info: Jack is confirmed neutered.  He was given distemper, parvo and lepto vaccines on 5/1/14 and is next due for his rabies vaccine on 3/18/16.  Jack is diabetic and is currently on 11 units of insulin twice a day, but is due for blood work to determine if his insulin dosage needs to be changed.  Jack weighs 34 pounds.

Owner Info: DOB 11/19/2008. Jack is a very sweet and handsome boy whose owner has just gone into assisted living that doesn't allow pets.  Her family is unable to keep Jack for more than two weeks.  Jack needs a new home or rescue very quickly!  They have reached out to every rescue and sanctuary they have found online, with no luck, and they write they are getting desperate!  He appears completely blind from cataracts. Jack's original owner got him from a breeder when he was 6 weeks old.  He is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained.  Jack is good with people of all ages and both male and female dogs.  They tell us he gets along with everyone!  Jack is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never shown any aggression.  His current caregiver writes, "He is the sweetest, most loving dog I have ever met. I am not an "animal person", but I adore this guy. Unfortunately due to his medical conditions, my 4 children and a very jealous chihauhua, we cannot keep him ourselves...."   They are getting desperate, and are hoping to find a new home or rescue for Jack as soon as possible!  

Update 5/31/2014: We've heard from Jack's current caregiver, and unfortunately, he'll be euthanized if rescue or a new home isn't found within two weeks.  His insulin runs out in two weeks, and they are unable to afford his medical bills or the expensive lab work the vet requires to refill his insulin.  They've also sent us new photos.  Jack is precious!
