Chester - In Sammie & Friends Foster Care

Name: Chester
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Pug Mix
Age: 10 years
Location: Yuba City, CA

Vet/Medical Info: We are unable to verify Chester’s medical information as his vet is unknown. His current owner/caregiver has told us he is neutered, up to date with vaccinations and heartworm negative.

Owner Info: Hello!  I'm Chester.  I am a 10 year old fawn neutered male pug mix.  When I was little one of my siblings scratched my eye, which later had to be removed.  Unfortunately not long after, I had an accident involving my other eye,  which lead me to go blind.  I have lived 10 wonderful years with my dad and he loved me so much.  My dad has passed away now and I need to find a home.  I am a sweet and friendly old man, and make a great companion.  I like to sleep a lot and I love food as well.  As you can see I could use to lose a little weight, but I am in fairly good health for my age.  I am house trained and have no incontinent problems.  I need a new home for my retirement.

Chester doesn't like things that jingle or ring.  He gets a little anxious/apprehensive and barks until the high pitched sounds stop.  His overall health is good for his age, but he does have some weakness in hind legs due to age and is missing teeth.  Chester is good with men, women, and children, and both dogs and cats!

Update 8/1/2012: Chester has found a foster home where he can stay until his forever home is found - could that be you?

Magoo - In BDRA Foster Care

Name: Magoo
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Schnauzer mix
Age: 4 years
Location: Amherst, OH

Vet/Medical Info: Magoo is neutered and is up to date on his rabies, distemper, and parvo vaccines.  They are next due 3/9/2013.  He is overdue for his lepto and bordetella vaccines, a heartworm test, and a fecal.  Magoo weighs about 30 pounds.

Owner Info: Magoo's owner needs to find a new home for him asap as he has moved back in with his parents due to his own health issues.  Magoo was originally a rescue dog (the rescue is no longer operating) who his owner fostered, and then adopted!  He's had Magoo for about three years.  Magoo was born blind, apart from this he is in good health. He is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house, he is housebroken but may occasionally mark, is leash trained and knows basic commands. He is an outgoing boy, good with adults, dogs and cats, but may try to play with cats. Magoo can be possessive of toys and bones, but isn't possessive over food.  He has never bitten or snapped at anyone.  He has lived with other dogs and has done fine, but his owner notes that he does like to have his own space, too.  What his owner loves so much about him is how compassionate he is - he loves people and loves contact with people and just loves to be petted!  He's a very friendly and affectionate fellow.  His owner is desperately hoping for placement  for Magoo asap.

Stevie - Adopted

Name: Stevie
Sex: Male (not altered)
Breed: Cairn Terrier
Age: 3 years
Location: Phoenix, AZ

Vet/Medical Info: Stevie's medical information is unable to be verified. Owner states he is not altered and is due for all vaccinations and heartworm testing.

Owner Info: Stevie's owner has no choice but to find a new home for him. Over the past 10yrs + he's taken in strays and provided them a home as best as he could. He had a good job and stability but lost his job in Feb. and the house he's renting is in foreclosure; eventually he'll have no place to stay. Stevie is not the only dog he's trying to find a home for - he has 20. So far 4 have been adopted. Stevie has been placed on Cairn Rescue online but they said they probably would not be able to find a home for him because of his blindness. Stevie is an indoor dog with the run of the house, he is housebroken but not leash trained. He has never been taught any commands but is very obedient. he is an outgoing boy, good with adults and teenagers. Stevie will get defensive if other dogs pick on him. Unless you knew he is blind, you can't tell. There are no physical signs - he looks healthy and has never had any health issues. His owner appreciates anything we can do for him.

Max - Adopted

Name: Max
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Shih Tzu
Age: 12-18 months approximately
Location: Tunnel Hill, GA

Vet Info: Max was neutered on 6/7/12 and also had an eye removed. The other eye has limited vision. He received his rabies, Dhpp, and bordatella vaccines on 5/31/12. He is heartworm negative.  Max weighs 15 pounds.

Owner Info: Max was rescued from a shelter (in horrible condition with two old eye injuries) and his owner has been unable to find him a home. She has other dogs and she feels he needs an experienced owner for special needs dogs.   He is an indoor dog who is crated when his owner leaves the house, and he is leash trained. He is good with both men and women, and female dogs. He does fine with her cats, but is too rough with the kittens, so she keeps them separated. He can be possessive of his toys. He is fed in his crate, so she is not sure about food aggression, but he has never bitten or snapped at anyone. His owner feels he compensates exceptionally well. He has limited vision in the one eye but it is easy to forget he can't see well. He is in excellent health and very sweet and a little spoiled. His owner  would love him to go to a home where he sleeps in the bed with his people :)

Molly - Staying With Owner

Name: Molly
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Doxie/spaniel/terrier mix?
Age: 10 years approximately
Location: Tunnel Hill, GA

Vet Info: Molly was spayed 2/28/12 and also had a dental.  She received her rabies vaccine on 5/28/12, but the vet's office has no record of her receiving any other vaccines.  Molly has gone through the slow kill method of heartworm treatment and is on prevention now.  She weighs 25 pounds.

Owner Info: Molly was pulled from a kill shelter in December to save her life.  She is missing an eye, but that happened before she ended up in the shelter, and her owner doesn't know how it happened.  Molly's owner is over her limit on dogs she's allowed to have and she's hoping to find Molly rescue/a new home as soon as possible.  She says that Molly is a great dog and she deserves to be in her own home where she can be spoiled rotten and be the only princess!!   Molly is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard, she is housebroken and leash trained. She is also great crated and in the house.  She is good with both men and women and has never bitten or snapped at anyone.  Molly does not get along with other dogs, mainly ones that are larger.  Molly's owner has other pets as well, so it has been hard for Molly.   Molly is a senior, but she is very sassy and fiesty and likes to "talk" to you.  Her owner thought she was about 6 when she got her. She says that Molly is a great companion animal for people, just not other dogs. She has been fussy with the cats too, when they get on the side she can't see. She thinks it's a defense mechanism then.

Update 2/24/2013: We've heard from Molly's owner and she is now desperate for placement for Molly.  Molly should be considered urgent!   Molly will need to be an only dog.

Update 8/9/2013: Molly is VERY, VERY URGENT now.  There apparently was a difference of opinion between Molly and another dog in her multi-dog household, and the other dog ended up with an eye injury.  Her current owner states that she cannot and will not keep Molly much longer.

Molly should be the only dog in her forever home.  Please consider Molly!  She needs a home right now!

Update 9/15/13: Molly's owner said that Molly still needs a new home. She is now living in the backyard which is not a good situation for Molly:(

Update 11/23/13: Molly is still looking for her forever home! She needs to be an only dog, please help her if you can!

Update 6/15/14: Molly continues to need a new home. She is now living on the deck; she can't be with the other dogs because she does not get along with them. She needs to be the only dog!

Update 4/11/15: We've heard from Molly's owner and Molly is still waiting for a new home! "I have had her for 3 years and she was estimated between 8 and 12 then, so she is to the point it would be more like a hospice rescue. I would love for a sanctuary to take her but I think that is a dream. She lives with other cats and dogs but she can be ugly at times with them.  Thank you so much!"

when new people come in the house, but never goes after them. Ginger adapts well to new
situations, she's been camping and to a cabin on vacation since she's been blind and did

Ginger enjoys her trips to the vet and is a favorite there amongst staff. She is Invisible Fence

find her way back to a place she knows and go from there. Ginger has lived with other cats
and dogs in the past, but hasn't been introduced to any since her blindness. During the time she
was losing her vision, she did snap at people who approached her and patted her head.
She did not know they were there, this behavior is one of the reasons we took her to be
examined.  She did a similar thing to the vet - after being on the floor examining her
without incident, as he rose from the floor to stand, she did try to get him too, however her
aim is not too good. Ginger would not like to be left home alone, she follows her owner
room to room.  She will spend time sunning herself anduse her doggy door, but still checks in
often to be sure she knows where she is.

Libby - In BDRA Foster Care

Name: Libby
Sex: Female (not altered)
Breed: Australian Shepherd
Age:
4 weeks
Location:
Ellsinore, MO
Vet Info:  Libby is not quite four weeks old yet and has not been to the vet. She will be going for her 6 week vaccination and will get her eyesight and hearing checked then.

Owner Info: DOB June 28 2012. When our senior blue merle aussie came into heat, we put her in a fence to keep her away from our male red merle but we noticed only a few days before the two puppies were born that she was pregnant. She wasn't even big and we didn't notice her large nipples under her long hair. We have a home for one puppy. The other puppy we kept alive hoping that she would not be blind or deaf. We got her tailed docked and she is full blooded. We will also continue her vet visits until she is 8 weeks old. She will be 4 weeks this Thursday. We would love to keep her but we do not have the time to spend raising a blind dog nor do we know what to do. She would need to be inside and we simply do not have the room. We are not sure that she is totally blind or deaf since she is 3 weeks old but we are pretty positive. She has a good sense of smell and a great personality already. Very calm and makes noise if she feels uncomfortable. I have not taken any steps to rehome her so far. We live in a small town close to Poplar Bluff and I volunteer for the animal shelter here and sometimes foster for a program called Choose Adoption Please. I don't have any hope for her in this area because of how many dogs I see go through the shelter and get transported. I would like to see her go to someone who has worked with dogs like her before. Libby is an living indoor and being crated, she is too young to be fixed or housebroken yet. Though she has a great sense of smell and can be taught to pee in one area. She is peeing in only one side of the area she is in now with mom and other puppy. We have been testing her and observing and believe she is blind. Her eyes are open and seem to go a little outwards. She might have some sense of near sight. Will need more testing because we think she might be sensitive to light. Might also be deaf. We aren't finding any response though her ears could be developing slower and need more time to fully open. Just not sure but need to find a rescue or home that is familiar with her needs just in case. Even if she turns out healthy, which I almost can 100% guarantee she is not, she still needs a home. Just hope that we can find her a good rescue or immediate home! Picture is at three weeks old. She has a large red merle patch on her back and red tint all on her face.
