Owner
Info: Daniel
is a very handsome boy who was recently rescued from Nassau, Bahamas, by a
smaller-sized rescue. Daniel was severely dehydrated when he
arrived, so he was on IVs for a few days. Daniel has Ehrlichia, which is a
tick-borne disease normally found in tropical areas, and he will
be on medication for a few more weeks. As a stray, he was also hit by cars
in the Bahamas, and this may have caused neurological issues which could
be the cause of his loss of vision, but it is not known if this or
the Ehrlichia has caused his vision loss. Daniel is not
completely blind, and it is not known if he will ever be completely
blind. One of his eyes has a film, and the other is clear, but has no
reaction to a finger close to his eye. Other than that, they say he is
healthy, his blood work is good, and he gets around very well.
Daniel's current rescue is not familiar with dogs who have vision loss, and
they are hoping for other rescue placement for Daniel. They write,
"We would love to see a rescue or adopter take Daniel who is familiar with
dogs who have impaired vision. We only want the best for you Daniel and we know
he needs to go to someone who can handle his issue correctly and who has plenty
of time for him". Daniel is an indoor dog confined to one area
of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained. Daniel gets along with
people of all ages, and both other dogs and cats! Daniel has never bitten
or snapped, and is very timid. Since he lived homeless on the streets and food
was very scarce, he does growl if a dog gets close to him with a bowl of food.
He only does this with dogs, not people, and they are trying to break him
of that. He has never hurt another dog. His current rescue
writes, "He is SO sweet, so gentle, he makes me cry every time I am with
him. He's breaking my heart. Daniel has never in his life had a home of
his own. He had to search for food and shelter daily. Daniel has been through a
lot, and it would be a dream come if Daniel could find a loving family".
