Name: Mabel
Age: 10 ½ years (DOB 8/1/2002)
Breed: Dalmatian
Sex: Female (altered)
Location: Charlotte, NC area
Vet info: Mabel is confirmed spayed
and heartworm negative. Her next rabies vaccine is due 3/10/16.
Info: Mabel's owner is
heartbroken, but has made the difficult decision to try to rehome Mabel, and we
do consider Mabel to be urgent. Mabel is a beautiful girl who has had
both eyes removed due to glaucoma, with her second eye being removed about 5
months ago. Mabel's owner has had Mabel since she was 6 or 8 weeks
old. Mabel is an indoor dog with run of the house, she is housebroken and
leash trained. She is good with other dogs and cats, and both adults and
children. She has never bitten or snapped, and when asked if Mabel
has ever shown aggression, her owner writes, "No; She has been around dogs
via dog parks/group of friends w/ dogs since she was a puppy, and she has been
around my children since they first came home as babies. My 3 year old was
using her as a pillow last night." At Mabel's last vet
visit in March/April, the vet "noticed a heart murmur -Signs of
heart failure. No sign of when could be months-years according to VET. She does
require a special diet of UD food. Due to potential UTI. She has not had any in
past couple years." Mabel's owner adds, "Mabel is the
sweetest, kindest, and most loving dog that I know/have ever had. She is happy
to be sitting there next to you. This is by far going to be one of the hardest
things for me. She is a great dog. Good w/ kids, people, loves to be
loved.. etc... However since her "disability" I feel that when she
gets nervous or unsure of things (different voices/people coming in and out)
She has had few accidents in the house, or has pooped on our concrete patio as
a nervous tendency - 90% of the time she does fine. Sleeps thru the night w/out
accidents, does not have accidents when we leave (we do put them in our laundry
room, when we leave). She does run into things in the house, walls, furniture,
stumbles on the toys left by my 3 &2 year old. (but only as a way to feel
around things... (obviously she can't carry a cane).... " And again,
she adds what a wonderful dog Mabel is!
