Jessy - Adopted

Name: Jessy
Age: 6 years
Sex: Male (altered per owner's friend, not yet confirmed)
Breed: Apricot Toy Poodle
Location: Brooklyn, NY

Vet Info: Per his owner's friend, Jessy is neutered and is up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. This has not yet been confirmed, but I will update once I have confirmation. Jessy weighs 10 pounds.

Owner Info: Jessy is a very handsome little boy whose owner is elderly and in poor health. She is having a difficult time taking care of Jessy. A friend has contacted us on her behalf and is hoping to find rescue before his owner is unable to care for him at all. They note that he hasn't been to the vet in a while, but other than his "vision problem", he is healthy. They also say that Jessy has cataracts and may benefit from surgery. Jessy is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained. He knows some commands, including come and eat! Jessy is good with both men and women, but children may frighten him. He is good with both male and female dogs. Jessy is not possessive of toys, treats, or food. When asked if Jessy has ever shown aggression, his owner's friend writes, "he does not see well so it makes him a little nervous sometimes otherwise he is a sweet dog." They write that Jessy "is a very sweet dog that needs someone who is able to adopt him and give him a loving home which he deserves we do not want to take him to a shelter. Please help as soon as possible as the pet owner just cant handle taking care of him thank you"

Mattie - In BDRA Foster Care

Name: Mattie
Age: 8 years
Breed: Puggle
Sex: Male (altered)
Location: Allentown, PA area

Vet Info: Mattie is confirmed neutered. He is next due for his rabies vaccine on 4/28/15. Mattie was tested in 2013 and was heartworm negative. Mattie weighs 50 pounds.

Owner Info: DOB 4/9/2006. Mattie is a very handsome puggle whose owners are disabled and are unable to pick him up to take him outside or to the vet. In the summer, they live in the woods and this poses a hazard to Mattie. This is a very difficult decision for them and they love him very much, but they are unable to "take care of him the way he will need". The cause of Mattie's blindness is not known, but their vet told them he was blind, and they cannot afford to see an ophthalmologist. They write that Mattie is currently in good health, but a little overweight. Mattie is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained. He knows sit, stay, and come! Mattie is good with people of all ages and both male and female dogs, and cats! He currently lives with a cat now. Mattie has never shown any aggression, and is not possessive of toys, treats, or food. Mattie's owners say that he adapts well to new situations, and write, "Previously when we have gone away Mattie has stayed with friends and family and has always adapted very well. He fits in very well with other families." They want us to know that Mattie is a special boy. They write,, "We love Mattie very much and this is very difficult for us and him. We do not want to give him up, but we don't see any other options. We want the best for him."

Momma - Adopted

Name: Momma
Age: 9 years
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Shih Tzu
Location: Wisconsin

Vet Info: Momma has been spayed. She is up to date on her rabies shot but the vet has no information on any other shot. There is no record of HW testing either. She weighs 16 pounds and is about 9 years old. She is blind and her health is good.

Owner Info: Momma's current owner rescued her from craiglist but is unable to keep her because she has young children, and the activity level of the young children bothers Momma. Momma is not aggressive at all to anyone or any animal, but isolates herself from everyone when it gets loud. She needs a quieter home. Momma is housebroken and leashtrained. She is good with people of all ages and also with male dogs and cats, although the owner is unsure about female dogs. She is going blind but sees well enough to maneuver well around the house and yard. The owner said that Momma recently had bloodwork which indicates that her blindness is not related to diabetes/Momma is not diabetic. She is a former puppy mill breeding dog so she was not taken care of and is especially in need of a dental. She also is a little bit overweight as she was "free-fed" puppy food in her last home, but now she is on a reasonable diet and is losing weight. Her owner wrote: Momma is a sweet girl. She isn't overly outgoing or social, and prefers to be near her people rather than being in a lap, but is okay being picked up and loved on. She enjoys the company of other dogs, especially those around her own size.

Belle - In Foster Care

Name: Belle
Age: 3 years (born February, 2011)
Breed: Miniature Golden Doodle
Sex: Female (not altered)
Location: Western Ohio

Vet Info: Belle has only been to a vet once, when her owners took her to confirm she was blind. She is not spayed. Her owner says Belle has received the 7-way vaccination at home. She also says that Belle has had the rabies vaccination but this has not been confirmed. She has not been tested for heartworm. Belle weighs about 25 pounds.

Owner Info: Belle is a beautiful little girl who was born blind. She is with her owner but they want to re-home her because they are gone a lot and they're worried about her being alone so much.   Belle also sheds and they “were expecting a non-shedding dog.” Belle was recently placed in another home but she was returned to her owners after one week because she “didn’t like the dog at the house we tried to re-home her with.” Belle is an indoor dog who has the run of the house. She is house-broken and leash-trained and her owner describes her as outgoing, nervous and good with men. Her owner says Belle is good with everyone but she is really attached to her husband and “the family that tried to take her said she attached herself to the father there.” Belle has never tried to bite or attack anyone, although her owner said when she was in the other home, she “growled and lunged at their little girl” and when she came back from that home she “lunged and snapped at my 7 year old daughter.” The owner writes, “I think it was probably too much for her, too different. She has only ever been with us” and “she may have been all worked up from the change she had been through. I think that may be why she lunged at my daughter. She has been fine since she’s settled back in.” Her owner writes, “Belle has always growled a little when she is startled or her space is invaded.” Regarding other dogs, her owner states that the only other dog Belle has been around, besides the dog that she acted aggressively towards at the other home, is Belle’s mother, who also lives with the family. For this reason, Belle’s owner thinks that she would do best in a home without other dogs. Her owner says Belle is “the sweetest thing” and “she just goes with the flow and tries to get everyone’s attention and love. She loves to be petted.” Belle was even “used for a 4H project.” Additionally, she says, “We are gone a lot with working and kid’s activities, I don't like her being alone so much. The dog hair is too much for me to handle.”

Tundra - Adopted

Name: Tundra
Age: 10 months
Breed: Purebred Australian Shepherd
Sex: Female (altered)
Location: Nashville, TN area

Vet Info: Tundra is confirmed spayed and received her rabies vaccine on 1/2/14.  She weighs 35 pounds.   Per her owners, she is a double merle/homozygous merle, and she is 95% deaf and blind.

Owner Info: Tundra is a beautiful girl whose owners have made the difficult decision to rehome. They love her very much, but feel that there is a more suitable home for her.  Tundra's owner will soon be working 12 hours a day and her significant other is gone for months at a time for his job.   Please read their heartfelt email: "Tundra is NOT housebroken. She has an incontinence problem where she relieves herself several times a day in small amounts. She WILL go potty outside, and has been under going training since we got her to only potty outside. However, she will not alert typically alert you when she needs to go potty, and will soil her kennel instead of holding it. We are unsure as of why. We think maybe she has an overactive intestinal and urinary tract. Our vet couldn't tell us why, either. Despite her disabilities, Tundra is a super happy girl. She is always happy, never shy or nervous. She happily meets everyone and everything, human or animal. She is friendly with all ages, both male and female, humans and is friendly with all male and female animals, including cats and sugar gliders. She is not possessive, aggressive, or dominant in anyway. She is accepting of being touched by anyone, anywhere, at anytime without showing nervousness. She is leash trained (with a harness and/or collar.) She does very well in cars and will lay down and stay there quietly. She is kennel trained, but will soil it if she has to go potty. She does bark in her kennel. She wants to be around you at all times and prefers to be with her human than other dogs, but she will happily play with other dogs. She is a chewer, but can be easily corrected to chew on her toys. She loves Nylabones. She tolerates baths and grooming nicely. She has a lot of energy when let out of her kennel, but comes back down quickly and will often lay down and chew on her toys afterwards. She is a very loving girl, and love to cuddle and be close to her. She adapts very quickly to new surroundings, it took her three days to fully memorize my house. She does not require a Fenced yard, she is particular about staying close to the house and can find her way back inside easily, but it would be best if she could have a fenced yard. She is an Aussie, so she has energy she needs to get out by running and playing. She does not nip, bite, or snap. Ever. Tundra is a loved member of our family and we want the best for her".

Tilly - Adopted

Name: Tilly
Age: Senior (age unknown)
Breed: Dachshund
Sex: Female (not altered)
Location: Biloxi, MS area

Vet Info: Tilly is not spayed and is not current on vaccines, however she will be vetted and receive her vaccines on Monday and so we will update after that.  Tilly weighs about 20 pounds. Her foster says that she has severe cataracts and a fatty tumor.

Owner Info: Tilly is a beautiful little girl with severe cataracts who was abandoned and ended up at the shelter.  She was bred over and over and seems to have recently had puppies.  She was immediately put into foster care through the shelter and they're very much hoping for rescue or adoption for sweet Tilly so that she can have the home she deserves!   Her foster writes, "I am gone up to 9 hours daily through the week and she has to be kenneled for her safety. She is potty trained and usually is still fine when I get home but that's such a long time for an older girl to hold everything."  Tilly is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house, she is housebroken but not yet leash trained.  She knows to go potty outside and her foster says that she loves to eat and sleep!  She is good with both men and women and male and female dogs and cats, and lives with several other dogs and one cat in her foster home.  Tilly is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never bitten or snapped.  Her foster mom says that Tilly adjusts well to new situations! She writes, "she has amazed me this past week. This morning she actually got herself up the stairs and into an open kennel and put herself to bed (I was out with her picking up poop and she just disappeared)".  Her foster mom wants us to know that Tilly loves to be loved! "I can tell you she is a very easy going happy girl who doesn't get upset about anything. Very easy to care for and loves being touched."

Daisy - Staying With Owner

Name: Daisy
Age: Estimated 9 months-1 year
Breed: Pit Bull
Sex: Female (not altered)
Location: Muskogee, OK

Vet Info: Daisy is not yet spayed or up to date on vaccines, but she is confirmed heartworm negative.  Daisy weighs about 52 pounds. Her caregiver writes that she'll have vaccines after she is well.

Owner Info: Daisy is a lovely girl who was rescued by a Good Samaritan from a dump.  She was very thin, diagnosed with tick fever and worms, was having seizures, and is completely blind.  There was also evidence of abuse.  Daisy is feeling much better and is gaining weight and her Good Samaritan is hoping Daisy can find rescue or her forever home!   Her caregiver writes, "We wanted to get her well and find a good home for her, since we already have 4 dogs.. rescued that we love. She is so beautiful, obedient, kennel trained and sits for you. As of now, she has grown more and has gained almost 15lbs in 3-4 wks. She no longer has seizures..extremely playful..and you could swear she can almost see her way around..the doctor checked and is not sure if she is fixed. She is extremely healthy now, except for the blindness..and so sweet. She stays in the kitchen pretty well.. and plays outside in the fenced in yard.  Daisy appears very healthy presently after treatment of Erlichia. However, the Doctor states that it will always be in her system and may or may not need treatment as symptoms arise again."  Daisy is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard, she is housebroken and leash trained.  She's a smart girl and knows many commands, including Stay Down, Sit, No, Potty Outside, Stop, and House (she'll go inter her kennel).  She is good with both men and women, but they keep her separated from their other dogs due to her health.  She can be possessive with toys, treats, or food, but she has never bitten or snapped.  Her caregiver gave us more details:  "We have not exposed her for a while to the other dogs due to the illnesses. However we have 2 Maltese dogs that she is fine around but she doesn't always know where they are and trips over them sometimes. Our older bigger pitbulls are more skeptical as we introduced her because she plays like a puppy and sometimes that's a bit much, but in no wise is she aggressive. She doesn't bite and rarely has ever barked. We have only had her for a month, but she is responding well to training commands and treats and I'm sure she can be trained to be around other dogs successfully without being so jumpy. Her play is just basically hopping and jumping and using her paws."  They add that, "she is smart and has picked up so many commands, playing with a rope toy, running in the yard, following us, knows the run of her area and the yard.. is very affectionate!" Her caregiver describes her eyes as a glowing green except when in the sun, then they constrict and her beautiful brown eyes can be seen.  She does bump into things, but can follow sound.  They tell us that Daisy is a great and lovable dog and they will miss her when she finds her new home!

Update 4/13/14: Daisy's owner said she is up to date on her shots now, and still is in need of a home!

Update 6/15/14: Daisy still needs a home! Her owner wrote: I have had several people call about her and one of them took her to their firm. But without a fence it wasn't working out, so she still needs a home. I can't have her fixed at the moment because since she has come out of heat she is experiencing false pregnancy symptoms. She is a great dog though. Obedient, sits and gives paw - very sweet.
