ChaCoco - In BDRA Foster Care

Name: ChaCoco
Age: 6 or 7 years
Breed: Mixed
Sex: Female (altered per owner, not confirmed)
Location: Decatur, GA

Vet Info: ChaCoco is spayed per her owner, but this has not been able to be confirmed.  She is not current with vaccines and has not had a heartworm test.  ChaCoco weighs about 15 pounds.

Owner Info: ChaCoco is an adorable little girl whose owner has moved to a new area and is not financially able to care for her.  She's temporarily living with someone who is not fond of dogs and she's very much hoping for rescue for ChaCoco. She has had ChaCoco for about 1 1/2 years, and got her from a friend whose children were no longer interested in her.  ChaCoco is an indoor dog with run of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained.  She's a smart little girl and knows Stop, Lay Down, Come Here, Eat, and Potty.  ChaCoco is described as outgoing, and is good with people of all ages and male and female dogs.  Her owner is not sure how she is with cats as she does not have a cat.  ChaCoco is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has never bitten or snapped. ChaCoco's owner thinks she is completely blind, and writes, "her pupils are grey, and I notice that she started walking into walls and doors."  She tells us that other than her eyes, Chacoco is in good health, and feels she adapts well to new situations once she learns the lay-out.

Scout - Outcome Unknown

Name: Scout
Age: 10 years
Breed: Border Collie Mix
Sex: Male (altered)
Location: Philadelphia

Vet Info: Scout in confirmed neutered, up to date on vaccines, and current on heartworm preventative.  He weighs about 50 pounds.

Owner Info: Scout is a very handsome fellow who was surrendered by his owners to his dog walker.  His dog walker is unable to care for him financially, and friends are currently helping her to pay for food and vet care.  A friend has reached out on Scout's behalf, and they are very much hoping for rescue. Scout is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained.  Our contact writes that he must be on a leash at all times.  "He can't be allowed to get out of the house or he will start to walk/run away. He doesn't respond to come/ stay etc. He is very treat motivated and have had to entice him with food. Fortunately, he hasn't gotten far, but I do believe because of his cataracts, he will start to bark at anybody, which is less than an ideal situation because most people would be afraid that he would bite." Scout is good with men and women, and male and female dogs, but barks at cats.  He is not possessive of toys, treats, or food.  Scout had one incident that his contact has shared with us:  Scout’s current caretaker received a bite/dent/scratch after returning home from being out of the house for more than 8 hours and getting Scout ready to go out to potty.  Other than that, there have been no incidents, and his vet's office reports that they never had any problems with him or saw any biting behavior.  Scout has cataracts. and while he may not be completely blind, his contact writes that he "may not see clearly".  She also tells us, "He is UTD on shots. Has a mild heart murmur and calcification of his teeth. The vet does seem to be bothered by this. I am unaware of the dog seen a opthalmologist, but because of his heart condition, he would need a see what the condition of his murmur before any type of cataract surgery... right now that is not an option due to monetary concerns." She also wants us to know, "Scout really needs a home that is calm, quiet, ideally a fenced in yard - probably high fence as he can jump. Also, although he is housebroken, he seems to need to poop right away in the morning and must go out as soon as someone wakes up."  Scout's contact wishes she could keep him, but she has cats.  She writes, "I am heartbroken that I couldn't keep him forever. :( "

Ringo - Adopted

Name: Ringo
Age: DOB March, 2009
Breed: Husky Mix
Sex: Male (altered)
Location: Lansing, MI

Vet Info: Ringo is confirmed neutered and up to date on vaccines.  He received a three-year rabies vaccine on 7/2/13.  He is heartworm negative.  Ringo weighs about 60 pounds.

Owner Info: Ringo is a gorgeous fellow whose owner is not able to keep him.  He writes, "It is felt that keeping him around could be a danger to the baby in our home, as she won't understand how to give him the space he needs."  Ringo's owner loves him dearly and is desperately hoping for rescue.  He tells us, "I need your help.  Please.  I need somewhere that will love him and give him what he needs."  Ringo is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained.  Ringo knows the commands, Sit, Stay, and Lay Down.  Ringo is described as nervous, but is good with both men and women.  He currently lives with another dog and cat, and his owner gave us more details:  "He also tends to be friendly towards other animals, as long as they are also slowly introduced. As far as I can remember, in the six years I have had him, there has only been one dog he didn't get along with. Of course, the other dogs he is around are mostly female, and the one male he is around, the one that lives with us, is very submissive. I'm not sure how he would react to a more aggressive male, so perhaps be wary of that."  Ringo is possessive of food while he is eating, and may bark or snarl if someone bothers him while he is eating.  He may also bark or growl at new people in the home, but his owner writes, "He has never attacked anyone. He always becomes acclimated to new people very quickly after meeting them, and he has no problem with new people when he is out on walks and such. He never becomes friendlier towards people near his food, though."  Ringo is completely blind.  Other than his blindness, Ringo's owner tells us he is in good health.  He doesn't recall the exact cause of Ringo's blindness, but tells us, "I believe the cause of his blindness was stated to be some sort of genetic disease. Something common in German Shepherds if I remember correctly, but I do not recall what it was specifically." Ringo's owner wants us to know that he is a very special and loving boy, who just needs a few precautions when meeting new people, but will make it up with lots of love!  "Ringo can seem aggressive at first, but if you take just a few precautions when introducing him to people he will become one of the friendliest and lovable dogs you've ever met. As stated before, you have to make sure you don't let people mess with him while he eats. Please don't let that change your view of him to an angry or unpredictable dog. He is very calm and quiet most of the time. The only time he even really barks is if someone new comes into his home or if he gets excited about you taking him outside. I guarantee, anyone who ends up with this dog will almost immediately fall in love with him."

Cinderelli - Adopted

Name: Cinderelli
Age: 12 years
Breed: Toy Chihuahua
Sex: Female (not altered)
Location: TX

Vet Info: Cinderelli is current on vaccinations and heartworm negative.  She weighs about 3 pounds.

Owner Info: Cinderelli is a wonderful, loving girl who is in need of a second chance family. Cinderelli’s owner believes she is completely blind and due to this she can be a bit shy and nervous until she gets to know her surroundings and new people. Her owner has cared for her for 10 years but unfortunately as of recent, the other dogs in the household are not getting along with her and the owner is also very busy with an infant. Her owner feels that she cannot give Cinderelli the time and attention that she needs and deserves. She is hoping to find a new home as soon as possible. Her owner writes, “She takes time to get use to people she does not know, we believe she was in an abusive house hold before she came to us. She does not get along well with small children since she had become blind…she does not like other dogs but after some time together she gets used to them, usually just ignores them.  Since Cinderelli became blind, her owner has been hesitant to take her many places but reports that, “we let her out in the back yard and she manages fairly well but does get lost sometimes and howls until someone goes and finds her.” She has snapped at the other dogs when food is in involved and snapped once at the owner’s daughter when she was younger because according to the owner, “my daughter would not leave her alone.” Cinderelli is looking for a special human to live out her senior years with. Her owner wants potential adopters to know, “Cinderelli is a wonderful dog and she has made my family very happy over the years. I am just at a point in my life where I cannot give her the proper care she needs and deserves. She takes some getting used to but one she gets to know you and you her, you will fall in love. Please give her the second chance she needs.”

Hank - Adopted

Name: Hank
Age: 8 years
Breed: Puggle
Sex: Male (altered)
Location: San Antonio, TX area

Vet Info: Hank is confirmed neutered and up to date on vaccines.  He is heartworm negative.  Hank weighs about 28 pounds.  Hank has been diagnosed with SARDS and appears completely blind.

Owner Info:  Hank is a very handsome puggle in need of rescue.  He belonged to a family member since he was a puppy, but the family had one infant with another on the way, and they were moving out of state.  A decision was made to bring Hank to southern Texas where he would see an ophthalmologist and stay with his current caregivers while they look for a new home for him.  Hank's current caregivers have two other dogs and work full time, and they realize Hank needs "better living conditions immediately as he will need to be kenneled most of the day...".  Hank is an indoor dog who is crated, he is housebroken and leash trained.  Hank is a friendly fellow, and good with people of all ages, male and female dogs, and cats!  He currently lives with two other dogs.  Hank has never bitten or snapped.  His caregivers gave us more details about whether Hank has shown any aggression: "Hank has only recently shown signs of a slight change of agitation but due to additional dogs in temporary home and SARD's blindness this is expected. Hank has always been very docile and interactive with anyone who is in the room." Hank's caregivers feel he adapts well to new situations and surroundings, and write, "Hank has adapted well to the temporary home as this home sits on 2 acres and is fenced. He loves sitting in the sun outside and enjoys being inside wandering the rooms or sitting where people are. Hank has difficulty in finding the doors to re-enter the home and providers have to place food/water bowl and outside water bowl in a specific spot and Hank has been able to locate it independently." Other than SARDS, Hank's caregivers tell us he's healthy.  "Hank's limitation in climbing stairs and confusion was due to his physical weight gain and lack of eye sight. Hank has been given a clean bill of health and his SARDS is the only health concern. Hank has been years past a very active and engaged companion and continues to adapt." Hank's caregivers are very much hoping Hank will be able to find rescue and receive the care and attention he deserves.  "A foster home would help Hank as the current surroundings and lack of one on one attention is limiting Hank from learning how to adapt to his recent blindness and concern with prolonging help may continue to deteriorate his overall wellness."

Lucy - Staying With Owner

Name: Lucy
Age: 7 years
Breed: Maltese / Schnauzer Mix
Sex: Female (altered)
Location: Cincinnati, OH area (KY)

Vet Info: Lucy is confirmed spayed and was heartworm negative in 2011.  She is not up to date on vaccines.  Lucy weighs about 13 pounds.

Owner Info: Lucy is an adorable little girl who was diagnosed with SARDS a little over a year ago.  Her owner had help at the time and was able to meet Lucy's needs, but she no longer has help and is not home often.  She also recently found out she is pregnant and due in April.  She knows she will be unable to care for Lucy and her newborn, and is hoping to rehome Lucy very soon.  Lucy's owner writes that she is at least 80% blind. Lucy is an indoor dog with run of the house, she is housebroken but not leash trained.  Lucy knows the command, Sit!  She is good with both men and women, and male and female dogs, and currently lives with another dog and a hedgehog.  We asked if Lucy was good with cats, and her owner wrote, "She has never been around cats, so I do not know how she would respond. I do have a hedgehog and she doesn't bother her in the slightest. She wants to sniff her, but nothing more."  Lucy is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never bitten or snapped.  Her owner told us Lucy likes to have her cage open and available to lay and sleep in, and may not like when other animals go near.  She gave us more details:  "Her crate stays up and open and always has. She only growls when other animals (not people) get near it. She has never bitten anyone. My cousin and her five year old are currently staying with me and my three year old niece is here all the time and she has never shown any aggressive tendencies towards them." Lucy's owner is very much hoping we can help.  "I just want someone who will love her and give her what I am unable to."

Rellie - In Memory

Name: Rellie
Age: 12 years
Sex: Female (not altered)
Breed: Chihuahua
Location: Corpus Christi, Texas

Vet Info: Rellie is not spayed and is not current with vaccinations. Her rabies, distemper, and bordatella vaccines were due in February, 2015. She had a negative heartworm test in 2014 but was also due for heartworm and fecal tests in February, 2015. Her vet’s office had no information about her vision issues. Rellie weighs 3 pounds.  Her owner writes, “Other than being blind Rellie is completely healthy, never had any puppies but is missing some teeth.”

Owner Info: Rellie is an adorable Chihuahua whose owner can no longer take care of her the way she deserves. She recently started college and her mother adopted a baby and now they are moving and their new home will not allow pets. They have had to re-home their other two dogs but have not had any luck finding a new home for Rellie. Rellie is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house. She is not housebroken but she is leash-trained. Rellie can be nervous. When asked for further information how she is with people, Rellie’s owner said she is good with people. She does not snap at anyone unless she is being poked at constantly or not left alone after she has given warnings. She used to get nervous around small children, however over the years she has not been in much contact with them especially since she became blind so I cannot tell for sure if they still make her nervous but the possibility is a bit high, she does not snap at children but she will growl to give a warning. After some time she might warm up to the kids if they are not too rough, it is not that she dislikes kids just that she is somewhat scared of them. I am not sure why, she had a home for about two years before she came into my possession so it might be from that time that she became that way. Rellie is not possessive of toys, treats, or food. Her owner says it takes time for her to warm up to another dog. She’ll keep her distance and hide but once she is comfortable she is not aggressive at all. Rellie’s owner said Rellie started bumping into things around a year ago. The vet did not find anything wrong and a few months later she could not see. Now when you call her she doesn't have much sense of direction. But she learns her surroundings and manages to figure out her way around. She wants us to know Rellie is a great dog who deserves a wonderful home for her older years!
