Name: Bert
Age: Approximately 3
months
Breed: Boxer / Pit Mix
Sex: Male (altered)
Location: Houston, TX
(rescue group)
Vet Info: Bert weighs
about 10 lbs. He is current on vaccinations. However, he is waiting further
evaluation from a veterinarian associated with the rescue group he is staying
with.
Owner Info: Bert is a sweet,
outgoing, lovable little guy. He was rescued from poor living conditions and is
now in the care of a rescue group. Bert was an indoor dog and crated up to this
point. He is not yet housebroken or leash trained. The rescue says, “We
were able to find a temporary, 4 week foster. He broke our hearts & we want
more than anything for him to have the chance to know what it's like to be
cared for & loved.” He was evaluated by a veterinarian
upon initial rescue and was confirmed to be completely blind; however the
veterinarian doesn't feel he has neurological impairment. Bert is still getting
used to his current condition and is a little unsteady on his feet as he
adjusts to his blindness. The rescue group Bert is with will have him evaluated
by another doctor. His current caregiver reports that “Bert is a happy,
playful little guy. He eats well & is very sweet. His overall health seems
to be good.”
Update: It is with much sadness that we are reporting this update
on sweet Bert. Unfortunately, Bert’s health began to decline with no chance of
recovery. After consulting with multiple professionals, the difficult decision
was made to humanely euthanize Bert. Here is a note from his caregiver:
“Even though Bert was only with us for a short time, he truly
brought joy to our lives. All he wanted was to be held and loved. We were able
to sit and visit with Bert this morning while letting him enjoy some
savory treats. The veterinarians were so kind and let us hold him until
the very end.”
