Buster and Dodger - In Central VT Human Society Foster Care

Name: Dodger and Buster
Sex: Male (intact)
Breed: Yellow Lab
Age: 8 years (approx)
Location: Swanton, VT

Vet/Medical Info: Born 6/19/2002, litter brothers. Rabies shots 6/22/2009, good for 3 years. All other vaccinations are overdue. Vet noted limited vision on both dogs in 2009, owner said he could not afford to get any further eye exams done. No heartworm test ever given.

Owner Info: Dodger and Buster have been rescued from an abusive home, the lady that took them in just wanted to get them out of the situation they were in. They have been signed over to her. They were locked in a kennel with no food, water or bedding. Their old owner didn't live on the property where the dogs were, he lives in another town. The neighbors of the property where the dogs were at complained to the dog catcher that they barked all the time so their old owner went out and bought shock collars for the dogs and gave the recievers to the neighbors for them to shock the dogs when they barked. She reported the owner to the Human Society and State Police but it took some time for them to take any action.  Her and her husband had been taking Dodger and Buster down food, water and hay. She is a behaviorist for dogs and also does boarding so had the room for them however she is expecting some other dogs to come into her care and needs to find somewhere safe for these two boys to go. They appear to be completely blind, she feels it may be from poor nutrition, neglect and abuse. She was told they were current with vaccinations.

Reddy - Adopted

Name: Reddy
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Yellow Lab
Age: 3 years
Location: Rockville, UT

Vet/Medical Info: Medical information not verified.

Owner Info: At present Reddy is living at Doggy Dude Ranch, the lady that runs the Ranch is not his owner, however she has been caring for Reddy for over a month now. He was bought into her to assess and quarantine for 10 days and has never left. After assessing him, his home and house partner (another lab), she saw that the living environment was more his problem than his blindness. His people have also come to realize this and that is why he is looking for a new home. The reason they didn’t want him anymore was because he was growling at them, especially when they were handling him by his hind quarters. The people at the Ranch (staff of three) have been working with Reddy and he has improved in leaps and bounds. Reddy is housebroken, leash trained and is good with adults and older children along with other dogs. He has taken everything they have asked him to do in his stride, he loves to run and hop around with joy. Reddy is UTD with vaccinations but has not been heartworm tested. They were told his blindness was caused by brain swelling, possibly from an insect bite.
