Shorty - Adopted

Name: Shorty
Age: 10 years
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Poodle
Location: Near Savannah, Georgia

Vet Info: Shorty is neutered and up to date on his rabies, distemper and bordetella. He is heartworm negative. He has bilateral cataracts but otherwise is healthy. He weighed 8 and a half pounds at his last vet visit in February 2014.

He is not aggressive, but may growl at something he is not sure about. I have been around him at the events and he just loves to be held and it doesn't matter who - so he is great around people."

Moochie - Outcome Unknown

Name: Moochie
Age: Estimated 10-12 years
Breed: Shih Tzu?
Sex: Male (not altered)
Location: Miami, FL

Vet Info: Moochie has not been vetted.  He weighs about 20 pounds.

Owner Info: Sweet Moochie was found in a ditch on 4/24 in an empty field by a good samaritan who is not able to keep him.  She is very much hoping for rescue for Moochie!  He is an outdoor dog and does not appear to be housebroken.  She wrote that his paws seem to have been burned and are painful for him to walk on, and he seems to be unable to close his eyes.   He does appear to see shadows but keeps bumping into things.  She checked that he is possessive of food, but has never bitten or snapped since he's been with her.    She says he's very well natured and a very happy boy!  He will even follow voices!

Please read his caregiver's heartfelt email:  "hello i will tell you the story about Moochie! I found him wondering around in an empty field yesterday! He was hiding in a ditch by the time i got to him! Every time i would approach him he was very scared . Thats how i knew that he was blind! I fed him and he started to trust me more and more with each minute! I managed to put the leash around his neck and took him over to my neighbors house! i have 3 dogs  and they would not tolerate him there. I realized that something was wrong with his little paws cause he could barely walk without shaking with every step he took. i gave him a flea and tick bath and cleaned his dry crusty and puss filled eyes! He has a very good nature. He is wagging his tail at all times. His paws look like they have been burned but i am not sure! He appears to be an older male! I think that he is not able to close his eyes all the way! We named him moochie! Cause he likes to give kisses! LOl"

Update 5/2/2014: Moochie is now urgent! He is trying to dig out of the neighbor’s home where he is staying. They are trying to keep ahead of the digging but his good samaritan is very afraid that Moochie will end up loose and be lost again or hurt.

Update 5/25/2014: Moochie has been moved from the neighbor's and is now staying with a friend of the person who found him, but they are unable to keep him and it's not known how long he can stay. Moochie's good samaritan says he's a very sweet boy! He loves people and his tail wags every time he hears voices! He needs his eyes cleaned every day, and also needs daily eye drops. She tells us he has some sight now as he's no longer bumping into things like he was before! He also has a skin condition that she believes is fungal, and she gives him a weekly bath which seems to be helping. He's a very good boy! She tells us he also gets along well with other dogs.

Update 11/19/14: Moochie is still waiting for his new home!  We've heard from his good samaritan, and he's "still running around and being a grumpy old man - lol!"

Sue and Annie - Bonded Pair - In Foster Care

Name: Sue and Annie
Breed: Border Collies
Age: Estimated 1 year
Sex: Females (likely not altered)
Location: West of St. Louis, MO

Vet Info: No information available.

Owner Info: A good Samaritan found two Border Collies dumped near her home.
She is doing her best to reach out and find them rescue, and she has posted them on Craigslist. She tells us, "They are very sweet very special girls who have already captured my heart and it just kills me that I am unable to keep them.”

Craigslist ad: Two border collies have been dumped near my home. They look to be younger, around a year or so and are probably sisters. Sadly one of them is blind. Both girls are super sweet and are just really good dogs in general. I have already fallen in love with them but I cannot keep them and I really need to find a home for them asap. Aside from one being blind and both of them being severly underweight, they seem healthy. Most of the no kill shelters in my area are full and turned me down and I am desperately searching for fosters or a forever home. The blind one is very timid and frightened at first but after a day or so she really comes out of her shell and acts like a happy sweet puppy! I do not think she would do well in a shelter situation so I am trying everything I can to find a more ideal situation for her. I would like to keep them together if possible considering the blind one seems to depend on her sister but realize that might not be possible as I am quickly running out of options.

Update 4/20/2014: Here is an update on these sweet girls - they have had their shots!  They are still looking for a new home or rescue.

A wonderful organization has paid for the girls to get their shots and they are being boarded for two weeks at a very nice park that has agility and sheep herding along with ponds and plenty of fields to run in! We are still working to find homes and fosters and are discussing options to get them spayed!

Update 5/12/2014: The girls are doing great! Canine Country in Wentzville is boarding them for a few weeks while I continue to look for fosters. Rescues have paid for their shots, heartworm check and preventative medicine, along with a bed, toys, chews and frontline! They have settled in very well and are looking great! I usually visit them three times a week and they are just the sweetest!

Update 6/9/2014: The girls need to leave the boarding kennel by tonight! Please continue to share!

Puppy - Staying With Owner

Name: Puppy
Breed: West Highland Terrier
Sex: Male (altered)
Age: 5 weeks
Location: Western NY

Vet Info: Puppy weighs two pounds. Puppy has not been vetted.

Owner Info: Puppy is an adorable little fellow who became blind during birth. His breeder is unable to keep him and is looking for rescue. Puppy's owner writes, "My westie had a litter on 3/9/14 and during the males birth the head was constricted by a contraction resulting in birth fluids to enter the eyes ( this is what my Vet believes happened). As soon as it was noticed it was straight off to the Vet. Some antibiotic was given and a test sent off. Test showed it was a bacterial infection. The shot did clear it up and fast but the damage appears to be done. Both eyes are white and at best sees shapes. Clearly, he is not for adoption now. His needs are more than I can probably provide. The training alone is beyond anything I've done. I am really in need of someone who has the time and knowledge to care and train him properly. The Vet says his vision may improve but I think he is blowing smoke up my butt. Any help would be appreciated." Other than that, Puppy's owner says he is a healthy, growing pup!

Keller - Adopted

Name: Keller
Age: 1 year
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Collie
Location: In Ontario/near Detroit

Vet Info: Keller has been neutered and is up to date on his rabies. He also has a microchip.

Owner Info: A young woman saved Keller from being euthanized by his breeder, but she was unable to keep him because he did a lot of barking in her apartment. So a rescue took in Keller a few months ago, hoping to keep him until he is adopted, but they said he is a little too much for their foster homes who are not experienced with totally blind and partially deaf dogs. Keller was "skin and bones" when he was first brought into the rescue but now is much healthier and he has put on some weight. Keller is about a year old and weighs 35 pounds. He is housebroken and leash trained. He is a little shy but gets along with people and with other dogs. The only concern was that one foster home told the rescue that Keller tried to bite the foster mom, but the rescue does not know the circumstances and they think something scared him. Otherwise, he has done quite well even though he has had to be moved from foster home to foster home. The rescue is hoping someone will adopt this beautiful dog and give him a great home.
