Lucky - Staying With Owner

Name: Lucky
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Lab Mix
Age: 1 year
Location: Granite City, IL

Vet info: Neutered, up-to-date on vaccines. Rabies due 3/20/13, DHPPC booster due 3/20/13. Lucky was recently found to be HW+.

Owner info:  Lucky was abandoned and his current owner ended up taking him from a temporary home with her sister because the original owners never came back for him when they moved. The old owners have abused him by hitting him and spraying windex in his eyes so it is best that he is out of that environment. His current owner has animals already and with them, work and school she does not have time for another dog, especially a blind dog. He is very sweet but she feels that he needs a great home that will have more time to spend with him. On top of his sad story he is positive for heartworm. She feels so bad for this boy. One of her four dogs is a pitbull mix and she has been trying to fight with Lucky and they now have to be separated which isn’t easy. Lucky is very gentle and sweet, he is an indoor dog with the run of the house and is housebroken.  He gets along with all people including children, is good with other dogs and cats. Lucky recently jumped the fence and went missing for 2 days. Owner posted flyers around, canvassed the neighborhood at all hours of the day and night with no luck.  She received a call from her place of employment asking her to come in.  When she got there, Lucky was sitting there waiting for her!  He is now on a tie-out when outside. She said he's an extremely smart dog.

Goofy - Adopted

Name:  Goofy
Sex: Male (not altered)
Breed: Rat Terrier
Age: 2 yrs
Location: Marion, IL

Vet Info: Goofy had his last shots on 2/31/2010 so is he not current on any of them. He is not neutered and has not been heartworm tested.

Owner Info: Goofy is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained.  He loves to play ball and eat ice. Likes most everyone and other animals. He gets along well with adults, children, cats and female dogs if he feels comfortable within his new surroundings. He would do fine adjusting and if he was not being mistreated there should not be no problem.

Mike Green Power Ranger (Mike) - Adopted

Name: Mike Green Power Ranger
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Great Dane/Lab Mix
Age: 10 months
Location: Irving, NY

Vet Info: Mike is neutered and up to date on vaccines. Due to his age at the time of vaccines, heartworm test was not performed.  Distemper expires in 1/2013 and rabies expires 9/12/2012.  He has kidney issues and needs to watch his protein/water intake.

Owner Info: Mike’s owner recently got a new job where she is working 6 days a week, she also has a 4 yr old son. She feels as though it is unfair for Mike to be locked in a crate for 8+ hours a day.  He also has kidney issues and has to be monitored on his water and protein intake. It is just too much for her to handle being a single working parent. He knows his name is Mike he also knows what the word no means. He sits when you say sit and listens when you tell him down. Mike is an indoor dog with run of the house but he is not housebroken.  He is leash trained.  He gets along with adults and children of all ages.  She has a 6 yr old cat and doesn't feel as though Mike is good with her - all he wants to do is chase her and play with her and she wants nothing to do with him, he is also rough with her. Mike is a very smart happy and playful puppy. He is stubborn and very energetic.

Coco - In Senior Dog Rescue, Harrison

Name: Coco
Sex:
Male (altered)
Breed:
Toy Poodle
Age:
8 years +
Location:
Rome, GA

Vet/Medical Info: Coco is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and is heartworm negative - currently on Heartguard.  He suffers from dry eye that requires daily drops.

Owner Info: Just took this dog from old owner to keep him from being put to sleep. I would keep him but my home has a lot of steep steps and is to active for him. He is food aggressive with my other dog but he just growls and has never bitten the other dog. Besides being almost blind, he is a very cute, good, sweet and healthy dog. He loves attention and in his own way he is able to interact with the household. He could have many more good years of life and give someone a lot of love. He is very overweight but other than that he appears to be in good health. His eyes are very cloudy and red, was told that he needs medication for dry eye. Coco has a lot of matter coming from his eyes. He does appear to see some as he can walk around both inside and outside. Coco is an indoor dog with the run of the house, is housebroken, leash trained and knows basic commands (come, sit, step over, up).  He is good with men, women, children and teenagers. He gets along well with cats and other small animals.

Sasha - Adopted

Name: Sasha
Sex:
Female (altered)
Breed:
German Shepherd
Age:
4 years
Location:
West Branch, MI

Vet/Medical Info: Sasha is spayed and up-to-date on vaccines, she is heartworm negative.

Owner Info: Sasha was a dog that was taken as foster for a shelter, her foster Mom did not have the heart to return her when they asked. They planned to euth her because they could not find a home so her foster Mom became her Mom and took her with the intention of placing her in a forever home. Sasha has pannus and her eyes are very cloudy looking. She seems to see shadows and does just fine with no major issues. Night is the time that seems to be the worst for her vision. She was started for search and rescue but due to her pannus she was released. She knows sit, stay and shake. Sasha is an indoor dog with the run of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained. Sasha is an outgoing girl, she is good with people and older children (teenagers), great with other dogs and cats - she actually sleeps with the cats and bathes them. She is not good with chickens or rabbits, she thinks chickens are squeaky toys. She hates having her nails done and may try and nip at you. Sasha adapts well to new situations, she is great with new people, she just needs time to get to know them. She is a great dog and she just needs a chance at life. She was in the shelter for over a year and then has been with her current owner for over a year. She needs to find that forever home. She is moving in about 3 weeks and can not take her. She needs that home or her owner fears for her life. Owner has stated Sasha is due for vaccines (except Rabies - rabies was a 3-year) at the end of April 2012, but if placement is found she'd have Sasha vaccinated before then.

Marley - Adopted

Name: Marley
Sex: Female (not altered)
Breed: Blue Heeler/Lab X
Age:
5 months
Location:
Temple, TX

Vet Info:  We have been unable to verify medical information for Marley as her current owner has not had her to vet.

Owner Info: Marley’s owner got her from a couple that had two pitbulls, another large dog and a pug. Marley was severely underfed and had a puncture wound under her front right leg due to one of the dogs attacking her. Marley’s left eye is shrivelled and blind from birth, her right eye is light blue and white due to having only partial vision in it. She is also completely deaf. Marley loves everyone and just wants to play all the time.  Her owner has a two adult labs that don’t like Marley and a Chihuahua that tries to play with her but the little Chi keeps getting stepped on and hurt. Marley is just so playful and doesn’t realize how big she is. She is almost solid white with some patches on her rear of blue heeler markings. Her fur is so soft and she loves to cuddle. She is way too big but loves to climb on the bed and lay on her back with her head in your arms to sleep. She is so sweet and her blind/deaf issues dont seem to bother her.  She knows to sit when you touch her back and she knows when she sees the leash it’s time to go outside. If you touch the front of her nose she will usually stop whatever it is she isn’t supposed to be doing.  She just needs an active family that can love her right.  You have to get up a lot to get her attention since she can’t hear you but she learns very fast. Marley is an indoor dog with the run of the house, she is not yet housebroken but is leash trained. She is good with people and children of all ages and gets along well with other dogs. Marley has not received any vetting and is not spayed. She did get her first puppy shots and was dewormed twice by previous owners. She seems very healthy and active.  Her owner is unemployed right now and can’t afford to take her to the vet yet.

Freckles - Adopted

Name: Freckles
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Bassett Hound
Age: 6 years
Location: Dover, Florida

Vet/Medical Info: Freckles is neutered, heartworm negative, and he is up-to-date on his vaccines until 4/12.  Freckles had his left eyed removed December.  He has glaucoma in his right eye and attempts at medically treating it were unsuccessful.  He is now now fully blind and adapting well.  Right eye may require removal as well.

Owner Info: Freckles is a sweet boy who does well with kids and other animals.  He is housebroken, knows basic commands and is leash trained.  Freckles has the run of the house and does not do well in small confined spaces or crates.  Will let you pull on ears or do whatever to him.  He loves to be around people, go on car rides and play in water. He is a sweet dog.  Freckle's caregivers are expecting a new baby and are concerned that they will not have the time to give him the attention he deserves and needs.

Sassy - Adopted

Name: Sassy
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Chihuahua
Age: 4 years
Location: Statesville, NC

Vet/Medical Info: Sassy was spayed 2/17/12. Received a 3 year rabies 2/2/12, Parvo distemper 2/9/12 and was found to be heartworm negative on 2/3/12.

Owner Info: Sassy was pulled from a kill shelter in Alleghany county, NC, where she had been for over one month and was in danger of being put down. She was owner surrendered, the owner was a commercial breeder. She was pulled with the intent of finding a rescue group to take her. Sassy is currently in the care of a volunteer with several rescue groups and independently. She had a rescue lined up, but it fell through. Through these channels, Sassy has been posted. Sassy is currently an indoor dog with the run of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained. She is good with female dogs but sometimes charges at the male foster dog in the house, jealous of attention. She also bit her carers friend, who said it was her fault not Sassy's. Sassy was afraid at that time and her friend grabbed her and got bit, not a serious bite. Because of this we would not consider Sassy for children. Sassy has never tried to bite her carer, she just needs careful handling as she is afraid of strangers. She cannot tell if the partial blindness effects her behavior or if her previous treatment at a commercial breeder has caused her nervousness around strangers. The vet indicated the eye was stable, did not confirm cause of condition. Looks like a white opaque circle where the pupil is, changes size per pupil. Sassy is healthy, when she was pulled from the shelter, her carer had her vet work done for fecal test (neg), heartworm test (neg), parvo-distemper + vaccination, 3 yr rabies shot, spay surgery and teeth cleaning. Her teeth were very bad with brown plaque/tartar. She is on HW/flea/tick preventatives. She has paid for all this and is now out of pocket, anticipating that a rescue group could possibly reimburse or she could donate these services to the rescue. Sassy deserves to have a good life after being dumped by a commercial breeder who used her to churn out puppies at $350 a pop. The breeder did not socialize the dog, based on her behavior. Sassy has latched onto her carer and stays by her side. Other than being nervous with strangers, she displays typical Chihuahua traits. She is very loyal and loving, can be aggressive towards other dogs, but gets along with her pack. She warms up to new people over time.

Mia and Kobe (Bonded Pair) - Adopted

Name: Mia and Kobe
Sex: Female and Male (both altered)
Breed: Akita
Age: Mia 6 ½ yrs, Kobe 12 ¾ yrs
Location: Los Angeles, CA

Vet/Medical Info: Mia is spayed, UTD on vaccines. Due for bordatella 7/19/2012, da2pp 12/5/2012 and rabies 12/5/2014. Kobe is neutered, UTD on vaccines. Due for bordatella 7/19/2012, rabies 11/4/2012 and da2pp 12/23/2012. Neither dog has been HW tested. Both dogs have a long history with this vet and have been well taken care of. We will also be obtaining information about Mia from her Ophthalmologist but have not been able to connect with them yet.

Owner Info: Mia's DOB August 2005, Kobe's DOB May 1999. Mia's owners husband passed away and she has to move. She is moving to a place that does not allow dogs. They had agreed to allow dogs, but have changed their mind and her situation doesn't allow her to make another choice at this time. She has two Akitas, Mia almost 7, has cataracts and glaucoma and is mostly blind. She will continue to lose sight, surgery is not an option. The other dog is Kobe, an almost 13 year old Akita  - they are a bonded pair. Mia and Kobe are indoor dogs with the run of the house, they are housebroken and leash trained. Theyw ere trained as puppies by a private trainer. They know commands such as heel, sit, stay, wait, down, no. The are outgoing dogs, good with people of all ages and children. Mia and Kobe have been together since Mia was a puppy. He has been falling down a lot - his left hind leg gives out. They could not be in a cage-free situation and Kobe doesn't like other dogs. They both are used to being walked on leashes every day and stay with each other. They have had kids and adults around a lot. Since her husband got sick and died it's more quiet but they seem to have adjusted. She has tried Mia in a cage-free setting, it did not work. She doesn't think that they are good with other dogs. Mia developed uveitis when she was 6 months old. She had skin issues when she was younger. She develped cataracts and then glaucoma. She has been tested to see if she was a candidate for surgery, but she was not. She seems to be able to see large objects, but does not see well up close. Except for this condition she believes she is in good health. Kobe, the male is also in good health except for his back leg collapsing problem. Mia and Kobe have until the end of the month to find a new home. Their owner will be moving on 3/22 but she can get someone to stay in the house with the dogs until 3/31. Their owner is willing to pay for both dogs vet care and Mia's medication.
