Duke - Adopted

Name: Duke
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Boxer/Lab Mix
Age: 9 months
Location: Huntersville, NC

Vet/Medical Info: Duke received DHP-Cv, parvo and rabies (1 yr) shots on 12/21/2010. He also received drontal, interceptor and frontline plus. On 12/24/10 Duke was taken to the ER, he was lethargic, collapsed after exam and had trouble walking, Duke was given Tramadol. Neutered 3/24/2011 and given puppy boosters - DHP-Cv, parvo and heartguard. 5/2/2011 vet received a phone call saying Duke has suddenly gone blind yesterday and had been taken to ER. Owner concerned about sudden aggression and how sick he is and wanting to euth him. Duke taken into vet the same day, Ophtho referral recommended. Duke listless the next day but still eating, given prednisone as an anti inflammatory. Referral made to CVS Charlotte Ophthalmology 5/9/2011.
Neurologist Info: Duke had a consult with Dr Bergman, DVM Neurological Specialist on 5/16. Dr Bergman has diagnosed Duke with SARDS, he is 99.5% sure.
Owner Info: Duke lost his sight just over a week ago. He went blind after spiking a high fever, emergency vets couldn't figure out the cause. His pupils are fully dilated. Duke is now living with his litter brother's owner Greg. Greg rescued Duke and his brother from their first owner and placed Duke in his old home. Duke's old family has young teen daughters, the parents were concerned about what they called aggression, Greg thinks it is confusion caused by his recent loss of sight. Duke’s old owners asked Greg to deliver Duke to the vet to put him down. Greg and his wife run an equine rescue organization (Bit O'Luck Equine Rescue) and have found their way into dog rescue also, they took Duke in but because he is a special needs dog, they are not sure how to handle him. There was a recent fight between Duke and his brother over a treat and unfortunately Greg got bit while attempting to break up the fight and required stitches in his arm. Their funds are limited and they are looking for help, advice would be appreciated too. He is an awesome dog and deserves more than what he's gotten so far. If they cannot find the right forever home for Duke he will stay with them. This will however mean they cannot help other dogs in need as they are at their capacity with Duke.
Can you provide Duke with a second leash on life and help ensure Greg and his wife will be able to help other dogs in need in the future?
