Two Young Dogs - Taken to local Humane Society

Name: Names unknown
Sex: Males (not altered)
Breed: Unknown (possibly part Labrador)
Age: Unknown (under 1 year old)
Location: San Jacinto, CA

Vet/Medical Info: No vet.

Owner Info: These two young dogs were abandoned by a roommate that moved out. The man that is caring for them has had no luck contacting their owner. He knows nothing about their history. They are both very loving and happy dogs, both blind and one is also hearing impaired. One of the dogs looks like it has underdeveloped eyes. The care giver assumes they are litter mates and feels they would be lost without each other. He works out of town during the week so cannot properly care for them and he is moving in a couple of weeks so needs to find a home for them asap. They are outside dogs with a fenced in yard, they are not house broken or leash trained. They are a little nervous and shy but are good with people.

Hailey - In Lap Dog Rescue Foster Care, Albuquerque, NM

Name: Hailey
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Poodle
Age: 6-7 years
Location: Albuquerque, NM

Vet/Medical Info: 1yr distemper, parvo & adeno vaccs & 3 yr rabies given on 7/30/2010. Owner declined HW test. Spayed, blind, not on any medications.

Ophthamologist info: Both eyes microphthalmic, diagnosis congenital ocular anomalies OU with sequelae OU. Last appt was 5/10/2010, chronic mucoidal discharge from left eye, right eye stable and comfortable with normal intraocular pressure and no acitve uveitis. Recommended enucleation for left eye as non-visual and causing her some level of discomfort. Owner to consult office regarding procedure and revisit in one year for check up, or earlier for surgery.

Owner Info: Hailey was adopted from local animal shelter, her new owners were told she was blind in one eye. They quickly realised she was blind in both. She has walked into their pool several times. They are now in process of moving to an apartment whilst building a house, have had a baby and feel they cannot properly care for Hailey. They refuse to take her back to the shelter and would like to find somewhere locally for her if possible. Vet Ophthalmologist said her eye condition was probably genetic. She has no problems with her eyes but her owner puts distilled water in them daily. Hailey is an inside dog with the run of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained. She can be a little shy at times, she's a very quiet girl who sleeps a lot. She's good with people of all ages and dogs, cats and other small animals. She is crated at night and knows how to use a doggy door. Her owner feels she would do best in a quiet home, maybe with another dog for company or with someone who is home a lot. She is very healthy, sweet girl.

Bella - In Briarcliff Animal Foundation Foster Care, Atlanta, GA

Name: Bella
Sex: Female (not altered, owner is prepared to have this done though)
Breed: Chow
Age: 4 years
Location: Kenai, AK

Vet/Medical Info: Spoke directly with vet who said Bella is a wonderful dog, she is losing sleep because she is afraid owner is going to put her down. Bella is not spayed. She has been used for breeding, vet said she is a blue chow, if she can stop breeding and get care for herself she will have a beautiful coat. Now she is rundown with all the breeding. She is due for rabies shot 2/2/12 and the distemper/parvo/adeno is due 11/19/11. She is currently on antibiotics and a steroid. The vet thinks she may have had a small seizure, the blindness came on suddenly. She thinks Bella will be a healthy blind dog.

Owner Info: Owner is a single Dad that works up to 16 hours a day, sometimes can be away for a few days at a time. He assures us she is safe for the time being, his neighbor loves Bella and is helping care for her but has a medical condition which makes it difficult. Bella is a very sweet and calm dog, she is not spayed but owner will pay to have it done. She is an indoor dog with the run of the house, is house broken and leash trained and loves people of all ages. Bella was in great health, suddenly lost sight. Owner has said if we can't help her he will have to have her PTS as he cannot care for her. He has two other Chows and a Beagle and has said Bella is the best dog and most trustworthy in the house. He is prepared to arrange transport if a new home can be found for Bella.
