Bert-Adopted

Name: Bert
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Pug
Age: 8 ½ years
Location: Roslindale, MA

Vet/Medical Info:
Bert is a neutered male, DOB 4/1/2003. Bert was given Rabies & DHPP vaccines (both 3 yrs) on 6/25/2011 and he was given 1 yr Lyme shot on 7/11/2007. He has received Iverhart HW preventative and was HW negative at 6/26/2009. On 6/1/2010 Bert was diagnosed with SARDS in both eyes, distichia left upper eyelid. T3 slightly low but T4 normal. He has mild tartar and gingivitis, waxy ear discharge and prominent nasal folds. Prescribed Anipryl, Prednisone and L-Thyroxine, he is now only on L-Thyroxine. He is doing well.

Owner Info: Bert’s owner has a toddler and newborn and is no longer able to take care of him. She got Bert and his brother Ernie when they were 8 weeks old. Her decision to surrender Bert has been an agonizing one, she would like to keep Ernie as he does not need as much time spent with him as Bert. They are very bonded so it will be hard for Bert at first being separated from his brother and family. Bert is a very sweet boy, very friendly, loves people and other animals. He loves to greet people at the door. When Bert is walked off leash he is like a social butterfly with other dogs, on a leash he tends to bark at other dogs but it's just because he want to say hi. He is very gentle with kids but does jump on new people when he first meets them. His favorite activities are snuggling and lounging around with other people. He has have never lived with anyone other than his current family so they don't know how Bert will adjust. He has been very loved their whole lives. Bert's eyes look normal but he is blind, he suffered from SARDS about a year and a half ago. Bert is on L-thyroxin and has just been weaned off the Prednizone. There was a small chance he could regain his sight with these meds, but he didn't. When they tried to wean him from both of them he got very senile and disoriented. This is a very sad and hard decision but she feels it is the best thing for her family.
