Apollo - Staying With Owner

Name: Apollo
Breed: Red Heeler Mix
Sex: Male (altered)
Age: 3 years
Location: Albuquerque, NM

Vet Info: Apollo weighs about 45 pounds.   He is neutered and up to date on vaccines.

Owner Info: Apollo's owner adopted Apollo when he was only 19, not realizing how difficult raising a partially blind dog would be. When she first adopted Apollo, Apollo had just had his right eye removed due to small eye. Little did his owner know that he was going blind in his only eye. He still has some vision in his only eye although his owner does not know how well or how stable the blindness is. Months passed by and she soon found out that Apollo was also losing his hearing. Apollo has now lost most of his hearing, he is able to hear sounds although his perception of them is off. From a far range, his hearing is nonexistent. Apollo's owner is a twenty one year old full time college student and has a part time job as well. Apollo is a very sweet and loving dog even though his owner does not have the time to properly care for him. Even finding the time to walk him on a weekly basis is something that she cannot do as well as giving him the loving home that he deserves. He needs a home that has someone around more than she is and more specifically another dog. Apollo gets along with anyone and anything, other animals realize his impairments and become quickly tolerant of him. There is no doubt he is wonderful and that is exactly why he needs a home and an owner that can appreciate him.  Apollo is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained.  Because of Apollo's seeing and hearing impairments he knows sign language for the following commands: Sit, wait, lie down, shake and come.  Apollo is good with people and children of all ages, and good with other dogs and cats.  His owner says that Apollo has never been aggressive towards anybody or anything. He is rather curious, especially with other animals, although they are very tolerant and even dogs that do not get along well with other dogs love Apollo.  Apollo adapts very well to new situations, fortunately he can still see a tiny amount in his only eye which allows him to freely adventure around new areas.  Apollo is a wonderful, loving dog! Everyone who meets him immediately falls in love with his silly personality. He loves to cuddle and believes he can still fit onto anyone's lap. Even though he has a few impairments he is very intuitive and kind. Even with his owner's 6 month old niece he made sure that he was gentle when he met her for the first time and licked her little feet. His owner only want the best for Apollo and even though it will be hard to surrender him, she knows that he needs a better home where he can feel comfortable and loved. Thank you so much for your consideration and time.
