Roxie - Adopted

Name: Roxie
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Yellow Labrador/Shepherd mix
Age: 6 years
Location:  Red Rock, AZ – Spokane, WA (family currently in transit due to job relocation)

Vet/Medical Info:  Roxie is microchipped.  Rabies given 3/14/12, Distemper was due at end of March 2012.  HW testing not done.  Spayed verified.

Owner Info:  Roxie went blind approximately 8 months ago, her blindness is of unknown cause and an extensive workup is beyond her family’s financial capability. She has no signs of cataracts. She has adjusted well to her new situation, but has become slightly jumpy around their youngest children (5 and 2 yrs). She still does well with kids in general, and hasn't growled at anyone, but they can tell that it's hard on her not being able to see the kids coming and it's challenging for them to keep the kids' toys out of her way so she's not always tripping on something. Roxie’s owners are currently in transit due to a job relocation and will be living in three different houses within the next year and a half or so. They've been happy to help her adjust, but feel it will be an incredible stress on Roxie, and hope to find a home with someone with older children, in a house she will only have to ‘discover’ once. The house they are currently living in is a family member's, and is a split level house with an upstairs and basement, and they really worry about her falling at some point. Additionally there are already a dog and cat living there, and Roxie has never done well with other animals. Roxie’s owner states “Roxie has only been friendly with a smaller female dog.  It was a slow process and it was during a week vacation in a neutral home.  She is generally aggressive with other animals, but manageable.  The only object she is possessive with is rawhide bones, which we rarely give her as special treats.  She will quietly growl if our kids come near her while she is chewing on it.  This has been ongoing, even before she became blind.  I have taken her bone while she was chewing it, and she didn't snap.”  Roxie is an indoor dog with run of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained and was trained on a harness as an “urban sled dog.”  She knows the sit and stay commands.  She gets along well with adults, children and young adults.  Roxie’s owner is hoping to find a family who is able to provide for her special needs and give her the loving home she deserves.
