Helen - Staying With Owner

Name: Helen
Age: Approximately 1 year
Breed: Hound mix
Sex: Female (altered)
Location: Sioux Falls, SD area

Vet Info: Helen was spayed on August 14, 2012.  She was given a three-year rabies vaccine on 9/13/12 and the one-year distemper vaccine on the same date.  Helen has not had a recent heartworm test.  She weighs 40 - 45 pounds.

Owner Info: Helen's owners took her in as a rescue dog when she was 5 months old because she was going to be euthanized, even though they had a number of rescue dogs already. Unfortunately, two of their dogs don't like Helen, and they have not been able to rectify that issue. They write, "The 2 that don't like her are smaller and more agressive dogs. She will defend herself if picked on. She also doesn't like cats as she hasn't been able to figure them out yet".   Helen has been blind since birth, but you can't tell by looking at her that she is blind, although she does look at you "cross-eyed".  Other than her blindness, Helen appears to be a healthy girl!  Helen is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained.  Helen is a smart little girl and knows her name, sit, and will shake hands for treats!   She is good with both men and women and her owners note she's also good with other dogs her size.  She has a mild temperament.  Her owners add, "She is a sweetheart. Loves to have her ears rubbed and back scratched. She socialize her in the rest of the house at night and she sits quietly while we watch TV. She goes up and down steps easily by herself and likes to sleep in a laundry basket!  She keeps all her toys in one corner so she can find them. She will be a great dog for the right family.  They will just love her".
