Homer

Name: Homer
Age: Approximately 6 years
Sex: Male (not yet altered)
Breed: Shepard Mix
Location: Jasper, AL

Vet Info: Homer is not yet neutered. According to his good Samaritan, he is up to date on vaccines and is heartworm positive. Homer weighs around 65 pounds.  Homer's foster mom writes that Homer is completely blind, according to the Vet he was seen by. They plan on neutering him within the next few weeks and then starting him on HW medication.

Owner Info: Homer was picked up by a rescue group after he was found wandering the streets and is currently being fostered by one of their volunteers. They are hoping to find another foster for him and eventually a forever home.

He is currently an outdoor dog with a fenced dog. He is housebroken and leash trained. The foster mom reports that he is an outgoing guy who is good with men, women, teenagers and younger children. However, he doesn't care for other dogs as much. "He gets really nervous when other dogs come up to him and gets defensive and starts to growl. When I tried to introduce him to my dogs, when they began to come up to him and sniff he got extremely nervous and tucked his tail. After a few seconds he began to growl and snapped at them to get them away."

His foster mom also says that he adjusts fairly well to new situations. "When I'm at work he either stays in a 10x10 kennel in my yard or on my porch which is closed in as well. He seems to feel very comfortable in either place right from the beginning when I got him. I also let him come inside my house very often. He doesn't try to walk around very much after he bumps into a few things and seems to be a little nervous when walking on the hardwood floors. However after he got used to a particular comforter he began sleeping on, I can now move it from room to room and that is his safe spot where he likes to lay. I feel as long as he has some type of bed he can get familiar with that he is comfortable wherever he is placed."

His foster Mom has many good things to say about sweet Homer. She said that "Homer is an extremely loving, sweet dog. He would be perfect for anyone looking for a calm, easy going companion. He loves being petted and going on walks with his leash. It is amazing to see how much a leash can make his confidence grow when he knows your guiding him, he wants to go fast and smell everything. Overall one of the kindest and definitely low maintenance dogs I've ever had."
