Joey

Name: Joey
Age: Approximately 6 years
Breed: Chihuahua Mix
Sex: Male (altered)
Location: Chapel Hill, NC

Vet Info: Joey is confirmed neutered, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative.  Joey's vet's office said he's very well taken care of!  Joey has a behavior issue, and he has bitten his owner's daughter.  His owner writes, "he sometimes shows aggression out of the blue".  Joey's vet's office said the cause of this behavior could be secondary due to hearing loss (Joey is almost deaf) or a learned fear behavior, and may also depend upon context, such as being startled or territorial.  They have ruled out a neurological cause.  Joey weighs about five pounds.

Owner Info: Joey is an adorable little fellow whose owner has suffered a hardship and can no longer afford to care for him.  Joey will need a quiet and patient home with no children who can work with him on his issues, and they're desperately hoping we can help!

Joey was originally adopted from a local shelter and he's been with his owners for 2 1/2 years.  He was found as a stray on the side of the road.

Joey is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained.  Joey is described as nervous, and they tell us he sleeps a lot.  He can be possessive of toys, treats, or food.  As described above, Joey "sometimes shows aggression out of the blue" and once bit his owner's daughter.  Bu they also want us to know what a sweet boy he can be!  "Joey is a really sweet dog. We don't always have warning before he strikes but he's only five pounds so  it's usually manageable. This behavior is relatively new."

Joey is completely blind and has been from birth.  Joey's owner writes, "Joey is a sweet, sweet boy...He's a good dog that loves to be loved."  And he's cute as a button!
