Further evaluations were recommended.

Owner Info: Lucy's current owner was going to be rescuing another senior from MDAS (high kill shelter) but when she saw Lucy she knew she could not leave knowing that Lucy's time was up and she would be left to die there, all alone and confused. Her heart told her to adopt Lucy, and when they brought her out she knew she'd done the right thing. Lucy is a blind and deaf senior. Saving Lucy was the right thing, but she was so overwhelmed with her own pets and now 3 foster dogs. The money and stresses of caring for all of them soon became too much, not to mention she has the costs of fighting a custody battle for her granddaughter. She also has MS but has been in remission for the past 10 years, but recently has started feeling herself coming out of remission. She is fatigued and her mind makes her unable to understand and forget things, she need to keep fighting for her granddaughter and just can't be responsible for Lucy...she deserves better. She started Lucy on her save journey..it's time for someone else to give her the happy ending, and her forever home. She never realized how amazing a blind/deaf dog could be until Lucy came into her life, she will be missed. It's time to let go of Lucy and allow her to bond with someone that can give her everything she needs for the rest of her life. Lucy is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house, she is not housebroken or leash trained. She is good with people of all ages, dogs and other small animals. She is deaf, so she blows on her before she picks her up so she isn't afraid.  If she barks it can mean she is hungry and when she stands by her right side, she will start sniffing for her food bowl to her left. She always licks her food before she tries to eat it and she always stands on the right side of her food and turns her head to the left. She will also bark if she is in a small room and needs to potty (BM'S) and can't find the papers. Someone will need to work on that with her, but she may have been trained and her new owner just doesn't know how to respond to her. If she is left to roam the house (she loves to roam around) she will potty without barking first. If she smells the papers she has down for the other little dog Lucy will use it (but not always in a big area).  She will also try to eat out of the other dogs food bowls if she discovers them.  She is very capable of finding food and water bowls in a large area. If she steps down and goes out onto the porch, she will not step up to come back in, she will keep circling outside until she is picked up and carried back in. She also will not step over the threshold of a crate, she will circle around and never leave the crate unless she is lifted out (you do not have to close the door to a crate if you were to use one), she is NOT happy being kept in a crate or small room. She loves the freedom to go in and out of their bathroom. She comes out and roams then gets tired and goes back into the bathroom to sleep on a fuzzy rug that she loves. She walks into the other dogs and sometimes they snap at her and hurt her. However, Lucy seems to like having the other dogs near her, she will gently sniff them. She would NOT recommend cats around Lucy as she does walk into animals and a cat may swat with their paws and scratch her or cause injuries to her eyes or nose.  Lucy cannot defend herself and easily becomes confused, she doesn't know which way to turn to get out of the way.  She jumps and tries to get out of the way of people or children running or walking near or past her. She fears she will be stepped on or hurt and it is obvious she had been abused. She doesn't seem to trust anyone picking her up unless you blow on her first. If you don't blow on her, she will suddenly turn her head toward you but her owner thinks it's because she doesn't know who it is or why she is being picked up. She never even attempts to growl or snap. She just seems very fearful, but never shows any signs of aggression. She has untreated severe peridontitis, and requires soft foods. Lucy is estimated to be 14 years of age but could be younger.
