Quincy - Staying With Owner

Name: Quincy
Age: 10-11 years
Sex: Male (altered)
Breed: Chihuahua
Location: Queens, NY

Vet Info: Quincy is confirmed neutered and we are waiting for info about his vaccines.  Quincy has not been heartworm tested.  He weighs about 9 pounds.

Owner Info: Quincy is a poor fellow in a heartbreaking situation.  Quincy is blind and paralyzed (he cannot move his back legs), and his owner has to start working long hours in order to support himself.   His owner doesn't want Quincy to be starving or thirsty for most of the day.  He has really struggled and has tried very hard to keep Quincy, but unfortunately, he cannot.  He has made the very difficult decision to euthanize Quincy if a new home or rescue cannot be found before September.  As long as Quincy has eaten and had a drink, his owner feels he can go five or six hours alone.  Quincy loves to be in someone's lap or in his pouch, and will adapt very well as long has he has his pouch, a lap, and his wheelchair!  Quincy is paralyzed due to unsuccessful disc surgery, and had one eye removed due to injury.  He has a cataract in his remaining eye.  His owner notes that he doesn't want to walk now that he is blind, and has recently gone completely blind.  Quincy does not like to be in his wheelchair for long periods, but his owner does put him in his wheelchair to relieve himself and to stretch.  If not in his wheelchair, he can crawl dragging his back legs, but not far.  His owner has had Quincy for 9 years.  Quincy currently lives in the garage that has been transformed into a "huge dog palace", with the owner's other dogs.  He's a typical chihuahua, and is "rebellious by nature" and may growl, especially when he feels his food his threatened (he loves food!) and the other dogs get too close.  Since he's had Quincy, his owner says that Quincy has become "more mellow".  He is not housebroken, but can poop on his own.  He can urinate on his own, and may urinate in his pouch or wheelchair, but may also need to be expressed.  His owner says that he drinks a lot.  His owner wants us to know that Quincy is a special and happy fellow!  "All I can say is that my little dog has suffered more than his share and still doesn't show any sorrow or sadness. a huge fighter."  His owner also tells us that Quincy is the smartest dog he's ever had!   Quincy is a very special boy and a typical chihuahua - a little dog with a big personality!
