Hero - In BDRA Foster Care

Name: Hero
Age: 1 year
Breed: Pug
Sex: Male (altered, was scheduled 8/30/16)
Location: Jacksonville, AR

Vet Info: Hero's contact writes, "Hero is healthy and energetic besides his eye problems. Hero does not have a current heartworm test and he is not neutered, but he will be tested and neutered as of the 30th of August....  Unknown inciting trauma but seen at local ER and diagnosed perforated cornea of the right eye and severe ulcer in the left. Former owner treated ulcer of the left eye for 2.5 weeks with aggressive medical therapy but did not improve and only worsened. Owners could not afford ophthalmologist and elected to euthanize. He had an enucleation procedure on 10 AUG 2016 and is pending second enucleation procedure given the poor prognosis of the ulcer in his remaining eye."  Hero weighs about 20 pounds.

Owner Info: Hero is an adorable and sweet little fellow whose owners elected to euthanize when they found out he needed to have his second eye removed.  Rather than euthanizing, the owners agreed to surrender him to a veterinarian, and the veterinarian is now trying to find him rescue!

Hero is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained.  Hero is described as "outgoing", and he's a very friendly fellow!  He's good with people of all ages, male and female dogs, and cats!  Hero is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has never shown any aggression.

Hero's contact is not sure how he'll adapt to new situations despite his visual impairment.  She writes, "Unknown, full blindness is new and a result of a second surgery on Aug 30, 2016 to remove the remaining eye."

Hero is very sweet and friendly and his contact wants us to know what a special fellow he is!  "He's an energetic young pup who can absolutely have a long and happy life if he only has the right family to guide him."
