Frank - In Foster Care

Name: Frank
Age: 8 1/2 years
Breed: Beagle/Hound mix
Sex: Male (altered)
Location: Northeastern Virginia

Vet Info: Frank is up to date on vaccines. He had a heartworm test in July, 2014 which was negative. Frank has bilateral blindness from sudden acute retinal deficiency. He can see dark and light. Frank weighs 70 pounds.

Owner Info: Frank is a beagle/hound mix whose owners are heartbroken to give him up but since Frank lost his sight suddenly two years ago, he is having a hard time adjusting. They have young active kids who startle him and cause him stress. The family has had Frank since he was a puppy. They have contacted local shelters, agencies, and talked to friends and coworkers about re-homing him. Frank's owner writes, "we feel that our home has changed in a way we can't fix for him." Frank is an indoor dog with run of the house. He is house-broken and leash-trained. Frank went to two sets of obedience classes as a puppy and knows several commands including sit, down, leave it, come, and nice to meet you! Frank is described as shy and good with med and women. He is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never shown aggression to anyone. In response to a question about whether Frank adapts well to new situations or surroundings, Franks' owner said, "yes. He goes to the vet and doggie daycare happily".  Frank's owners said that Frank  is healthy and "has a bad hip but still enjoys walks and can get up and down stairs. They added, "he is a wonderful dog. We just want what is best for him and don't feel that our home is safe for him to live his life without stress."
