Mandy - In Memory

Name: Mandy
Age: 8+ years
Breed: Shih Tzu
Sex: Female (altered per rescuer, not yet confirmed)
Location: Philadelphia area

Vet Info: Mandy is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative per her rescuer.  She weighs about 11 pounds.  Mandy's rescuer also tells us Mandy has just had a dental and seems to be in good health.  Mandy is blind due to cataracts.

Owner Info: Mandy is a beautiful little girl looking for rescue or an adoptive home of her very own.  She is currently with an independent rescuer/adoption center. Mandy was saved from a hoarder who had several small-breed dogs who received no veterinary care. She and her sister went into a temporary foster home where they were groomed, learned to walk on leashes, and introduced to the outdoors.  They are now hoping for our help to place sweet little Mandy!  Mandy is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house.  She is leash trained but not housebroken.  "She needs an owner that is patient with her potty habits she was potty pad trained so it takes her a while to know where she is supposed to go. She will go potty outside but not consistently." Her rescuer also writes, "Mandy is blind but gets around great! She has learned to navigate steps and seems like a sweet mellow dog".   Mandy is good with people of all ages, male and female dogs, and cats!  She is a gentle little girl, and is not possessive of toys, treats, or food.  She has never bitten or snapped.

Mandy's rescuer gave us more details about Mandy from her previous foster home:
Mandy will wander around everywhere. Being blind doesn’t really slow her down. That’s good and bad. Sure wouldn’t want her around a pool – she would definitely fall in it or a high wall or something as she will walk off of it…. She goes up and down steps just fine.
•Will come to your voice or clapping of your hand.
•Has no problem finding the food and water – in any room.
•Totally fine with dogs and cats.
•Never seen any aggression about anything – has never snipped and never acted like she would even snip.
•Was fine being groomed and during bath.
•Just talk to her to let her know you are there .. so as not to startle her (as with any blind dog).
•She’s totally fine being picked up.
•Not sure I’ve ever heard her bark ….
•When she starts going “in circles” then, watch out, she’s going to go potty!
•She loves a soft dog bed!
•Outside, she will go off the deck into the grass and end up back at the door waiting to come in…! All on her own…!

Mandy loves to be cuddled.  Her rescuer tells us Mandy is very laid back!   "She is a very sweet girl who had a really awful life. Hopefully her remaining retirement years can be better."
